My speech for Christine O’Donnell

Delaware voters are being bombarded by the MSM’s laugh a minute message on Christine O’Donnell, in the spirit of getting things focused on the issues I submit this speech for the O’Donnell’s campaign’s consideration. No charge:

You know the left and the media have had a lot to say about my candidacy, most of it involved laughter.

First laughed saying about how my candidacy was a joke, until we received significant endorsements

Then they laughed at the endorsements that we received saying they were too late until we started to close in the polls

Then they laughed at my chances of winning the primary right up until the actual results were announced.

Then they laughed at our war chest saying even though I DID win we couldn’t compete in the money race, until people like you kicked in nearly $2,000,000 to finance our campaign.

Now they are laughing again, grabbing sound bites from as far back as when I was in high school to persuade you that I’m not ready for this office. They are desperate to change the subject from the issues facing the working families of Delaware and onto sound-bytes from years ago.

So lets get the message out clearly:

There are times in my life when I haven’t spoken clearly but when I get to Washington and vote to Repeal Obamacare that vote will speak loud and clear.

There are times when I’ve been misunderstood but when I vote against Cap and Trade that message will be understood by Washington.

There was a time when I had trouble with student loans, but when I vote against bailing out banks with your tax money you’ll have no question of how I’d manage your tax dollars.

I can tell you these things because I’m proud of the vision I have for Delaware, my opponent and in fact the entire democratic party nationwide wants to change the subject because they know their vision is contrary to what the voters want and need. So they will talk old TV clips and laugh and make jokes, while you struggle to pay your mortgage and get by.

They may think what’s going on is funny. I don’t. I know what hard times are, I’ve had them myself, and when elected I promise that I won’t forget those times while I try to help bring us out of them together.

And that’s no laughing matter.

I like the guys at powerline. It is a good blog and has been for a long time, however I think this post needs to be answered:

Lest there be any doubt, if I were a resident of Delaware, I would vote for O’Donnell. That is because she is far preferable to her “bearded Marxist” opponent. But O’Donnell is, nevertheless, a lousy candidate. I’m sorry, but politics is not about snatching random people out of the crowd and making them one of 100 United States Senators. Those who seek high office need to be qualified as leaders. They must be thoughtful and intelligent; they must have accomplishments in the public, or, better yet, the private sphere.

So in the same paragraph John goes on about how lousy a candidate Christine O’Donnell is but he would vote for her anyway (shades of Mike Castle here) but lets examine the part I emphasized.

What is the most important quality of a leader?…The willingness to lead. The willingness to put oneself out there with all the warts and issues (and we all have them, it’s just that most of us are too obscure for them to come out) that one has in life. The willingness to instead of saying “Someone ought to do something!” to saying “I’m going to do something!”

No matter which way you cut it, in Delaware all those qualified leaders with accomplishments in the public and/or private sphere that John and those who agree with would like to have supported decided that the prospect of facing Mike Castle in a primary was too much for them. They may have thought “Someone ought to do something.” but for all their accomplishments and qualifications they just were not willing to invest the time and expense to act. In other words, they were not willing to lead.

Christine O’Donnell is a young lady, she was even a younger lady when she was on the Bill Maher show. She knows what her past is, and knows what her warts are. Nobody knows them better than her. Yet when nobody else was willing to step up and say: “I’m not going to let another RINO get elected to the senate.” she was willing to do so. In other words she led.

I’m sure there are a whole lot of more qualified people in Delaware with impressive resumes who would make fine senators , but none of them are on the ballot, none of them had the courage to lead. Christine had the courage to lead and has been rewarded with both a primary victory and the outpouring of Millions of dollars of support from the average American.

As Rush says “The pioneers get the arrows.” Christine O’Donnell is willing to take the arrows for conservatism. She knew what was coming but was willing to do it anyway.

That’s what a leader does. Yeah she’s qualified.

It is important to support the republican who wins…

…until it isn’t any more apparently.

Bonnie Jack, who was a Murkowski campaign elections observer for the count of absentee votes, sent out an email this morning. “Join us at the Kick-off of Senator Lisa’s campaign — with a theme of “write in her name in and fill in the oval.”

“Denai’na Convention Center, third floor and hopefully out on the sunny deck, 5 pm. Bring your family including children, friends and business associates. We plan to make history!”

I am dying to see Karl Rove, Charles Krauthammer et/al going after Murkowski in the same way they were so anxious to go after Christine O’Donnell.

One of the things I found last weekend when interviewing Tea Party activists is they DO NOT trust the Republican Party. It is stuff like this that earns their distrust. Stacy McCain says this:

Lisa Murkowski is as consumed with pathological narcissism as her worst enemies said?

Jonah Goldberg gives an excellent analysis and concludes with this Zinger!

How is she anything more than Arlen Specter in a dress?

To Lisa I say this. I know it is hard to lose a race but you’ve got a family and a life. Don’t define yourself by an office. It looks really REALLY bad.

This is the first shot that will cumulative in the nomination of 2012 that will determine if the republican party becomes the majority party or dies. From what I’m seeing of the reaction of the establishment it doesn’t look promising.

Update: Jim Geraghty (who I didn’t get a chance to introduce myself to at the blogcon debate) said this:

the RINO-hunters have a point that the moderates never seem to be willing to compromise or put the party’s interest first.

and from HotAir reports from her announcement:

This is one woman who won’t quit on Alaska

Earth to Lisa, you didn’t quit, you were fired by the voters.

As it turns out, the Republicans wanted the base to get involved—just not so much. What they really wanted is for real conservatives to turn out to vote but certainly not run. Newly involved fiscal conservatives are finding out that the Republican party wants their votes, just not them.

Welcome to the club.

This is the position that culture-of-life conservatives, like me, have found ourselves in for a generation. I know that many culture-of-life conservatives feel that the Republican party has expected us to get out and vote for candidates of their choosing in return for the privilege of lip service to the life issues we care most about. But many of us COL conservatives have come to the conclusion that much of the Republican leadership does not really care about these issues, at least not enough to really do anything about it.

Now fiscal conservatives find themselves in the same situation.

I keep coming back to this post that Smitty put up a bit ago:

But something happened to DeMint in these leadership seminars that would change the course of his life. The gatherings were entirely focused on the means for concentrating and preserving political power: How to milk K Street lobbyists for political contributions; how to place earmarks into appropriations bills so they would be deemed essential to the folks back home.

One day, DeMint had had enough. He rose up in a seminar to question why representatives of the party of smaller government were so focused on earmarks and political fundraising. Why aren’t we talking about reforming the federal tax code or addressing the health care mess?

Midst laughter, someone shouted, “You’ll catch on to the system, DeMint.” But DeMint never did.

If your only belief is that you need to be elected so you can grease your friends and have power, we aren’t interested in you. To quote Adrienne:

All this talk about Christine O’Donnell not being electable is making me tired. The elitist snobs in the Republican party wanted the people of Delaware to nominate the RINO incumbent Mike Castle because they would have you believe Ms. O’Donnell doesn’t have a prayer of winning the election. Well, so be it!

It is something I talked about before:

Pubic office wasn’t meant to be a meal ticket, it is meant to give the best possible governance by advancing idea and policies for the public good. I’ve read the resolution and it looks good to me.

The party has to decide if principles are more important than the approval of the MSM.

And if principle won’t do it consider: Conservatives are a huge source of Republican funding and have been sending back fundraising solicitations with colorful comments. What is more important? A happy MSM or a happy voter base?

What’s the use of being elected or re-elected if you don’t stand for something?
