Silence in the Library revisited

I wasn’t a big fan of Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead when they first came out, There were many better episodes that season.

But with Series 5 behind us the pair of them take on a whole new meaning and Alex Kingston’s performance looks both better and more poignant. Kingston’s River Song has (along with Arthur Darvill’s Rory) have been an incredible addition to the show. Darvill’s character is the geek that so many of us who watch the show are. Song’s character transforms the Doctor into the Geek for us to identify with.

I hope Kingston stays a while, she adds an incredible dimension to the series that we haven’t seen since Romana.

Kingston current performances combined with Stephen Moffat has really raised the series. They are so good they even make two year old episodes better.

Alternate cover via Colin Brockhuirt

I’ve mentioned this before but Colin Brockhurst has done some first rate alternative cover art for some Big Finish CD’s. I think his mutant Phase cover is one of his best. Big Finish should really consider using his art professionally.

My review of the Doctor Who Big Finish adventure #33 Neverland staring Paul McGann as the 8th Doctor, India Fisher as Charley Pollard and Lalla Ward as Romana is available at Amazon.com here.

This was the first of three Charley “Resolution” episodes (the second being The Girl who Never Was and the final Blue forgotten planet). There would be a 17 episode gap between this one and the next 8th Doctor adventure, the big 50th episode Zagreus featuring Doctors 5-8 and a cameo by the 3rd doctor from beyond the grave.
