Dr Who The Prisoner of Peladon: Amazon Review

My review of the the Big Finish Companion Chronicles adventure 4.03 The Prisoner of Peladon staring David Troughton (son of the 2nd doctor) as King Peladon interacting with the 3rd Doctor is available at Amazon.com here.

This is a real departure from the Companion Chronicles series in that the King was a one-shot character rather than a regular companion, but it turns out to be pretty good. This is the 2nd Big Finish adventure that takes place on Peladon the first being 5th Doctor adventure the Bride of Peladon (Big finish 104). Ironically Nicola Bryant who plays Peri in that episode directs this one. It is a great start for her, of course it helps to have a solid Vets like Troughton and Briggs in the pot.

I don’t know if we will see more of Peladon but it’s a worthwhile start.

Doctor Who the Blue Tooth: Amazon Review

My review of the Big Finish Companion Chronicles 1.3 The Blue Tooth a story of the 3rd Doctor Staring Caroline John as Liz Shaw and Nick Briggs as the Cybermen is available at Amazon.com here.

This story surprised me, I generally don’t like Cybermen stories but I liked this one, I do think they used a really bad Jon Pertwee picture on the inside.

The episode was pretty good but had one large plot hole that you could drive a truck through.

The first issue is the problem itself. It is a problem he has faced before and it is very strange that he doesn’t remember what he was once told.

One could argue that the hole is due to the Doctor’s hubris as he gets beyond himself. He has been in this position before but recognized it for what it was, but of course that was in the days of Tom Baker, truly his finest era and he hadn’t suffered the traumas that affected both his 9th incarnation and his current self. Thus he skips the obvious solution (as per the Marian Conspiracy) and it leads to issues as he passes on his fatalism to another.

As you can see I’m doing my best to avoid spoilers, the episode is first rate television and likely leads to what happens in those last two episodes.

Although the plotting is great and you will appreciate this episode I think I will be very happy if the 11th doctor becomes once again a happier traveler.

…one the show is done and the proxy is set up it’s off to the BBC site to see it.

Countdown to the 11th doctor is in progress. Matt Smith will have a tough act to follow but lucky for him he is also getting the best writer from the series.

I’ll let you know what I thought.
