…than nobody is going to.

If this questioning was taking place at Gitmo the ACLU and answer would be providing him lawyers.

The only softball came from Jon Meacham of Newsweek.

Only the letter next to his name has changed. They aren’t buying this at all.

Update: You know for days they were building this up as a real possibility and a real game changer but once they had in front of him on it’s as if they just couldn’t keep a straight face. They treated him as if he had no credibility.

But the moment he was off camera again suddenly he is, as Barnicle put it “a man among boys” and a strong candidate. It’s like a switch was suddenly turned back on once he was gone.

I guess the facade just wasn’t possible when he was shoveling it to their faces, but once he was gone the template came back.

Update 2: Did Eugene Robinson et/al just see the same interview that I did? For God’s sake they were there!

My latest column for the examiner is up an excerpt:

…with the April meeting pending; organizer Justin Brooks started contacting democrats either in office or running for office. He left messages or talked to a half dozen different candidates eager to get another perspective, without success. Most office holders and candidates never got back to him, others had conflicts but when the April 26th meeting came around only a single candidate republican Mary Connaughton spoke to the 46 people assembled at the Border Grille & Bar in Leominster.

More details on the meeting are available here.

Remember hits on my examiner articles are the next best thing to hits on the DaTipJar.

Update: Instalanche on the Examiner article. Thanks muchly Glenn! Hits there are a lot more valuable to me than hits here.

…Robert Stacy has a story up about Vernon Parker running in the 3rd Arizona district who is first rate:

That’s the American dream he wants to preserve for future generations. “I had made a commitment that, if I got out of the environment that I grew up in, what I would do is to work to get others out, because there are a lot more Vernon Parkers out there,” he says. “I always wanted to make a change, make a difference, and the way that I figured we could do that was through the law.”

That is exactly the attitude that needs to be promoted. No wonder Stacy and Barbara are so high on him.

concerning the vote.

I’m a little wary of some of these “likely nos” we’re hearing a lot about lately. If some of these endangered Democrats are going to flip to Pelosi’s side after voting “no” last fall, the last thing they want to do is hint that they’re flipping and make themselves targets for attack ads, tsunamis of calls from constituents, etc.

In other words, if Obamacare passes, it’s going to pass because a bunch of Democrats who went on and on about how deep their concerns are and how troubled they are suddenly make their peace with the bill.

Later in the piece is a reader e-mail that is exactly right. If it passes it passes by one or two votes (Pelosi giving everyone possible the ability to vote against to try to save their butts) If it fails then it will fail overwhelmingly because there will be no point in making a suicidal vote for no reason.

This might be worth remembering if “swing” democrats who vote against the bill go on about their no votes in a losing cause. Perhaps we should be encouraging them to lobby on the other side to prove that they were not just votes kept in Pelosi’s pocket.
