The Commonwealth of Massachusetts has long been a far left hell whole.  Every election cycle the citizens of this state send the most ardent leftists to Beacon Hill.  The recent election of Maura Healey to the governorship is proof of this.

The vast majority of leftist abhor guns just like vampires abhor garlic and crucifixes.  They find it distasteful that individuals can use guns to defend their lives, their freedom =, and their property.  Just this week the House of Representatives here in Massachusetts passes a gun grabbing bill that is so odious that police departments across this state have condemned it.

This press release chronicles the most outrageous provisions of the bill: MA: Massive Anti-gun Bill Passes House | GOA (gunowners.org)

  • Redefines “Assault-style firearm” to be more extensive and bans ALMOST ALL semi-automatic   firearms from civilian ownership.
  • Redefines “firearm” into a broader term that includes even stun guns.
  • Mandates “safe storage” procedures, locking up guns against your will.
  • Mandates REGISTRATION of all guns and feeding devices.
  • Includes confusing language for new MA residents and the serialization of guns.
  • Mandates reporting any parts modifications to firearms to the state.
  • Mandates reporting an itemized list of parts when modifying or building a gun.
  • Mandates serializing of feeding devices (magazines).
  • Mandates that privately made guns need to be registered within 7 days.
  • Bans anyone under 21 from acquiring or carrying semi-automatic rifles or shotguns.
  • Forces new requirements for firearms retailers.
  • Forces new training mandates for law-abiding gun owners.
  • Adds additional prohibited areas where even licensed individuals cannot defend themselves with a firearm.

This article, NRA-ILA | Massachusetts: Anti-Gun Bill Passes House (nraila.org) includes more details.

H. 4135 re-writes gun laws in the Commonwealth and imposes unprecedented gun-control. This is an ominous bill that includes the worst anti-gun legislation in the country, including:

  • Widespread bans on commonly owned firearms,
  •  Eliminating due process through expanded “Red Flag” laws,
  • Implementing new “safe storage” mandates in and out of your home,
  • Instituting expanded gun registry programs,
  • Placing an extreme financial burden on gun-owners to price them out of being able to exercise their Second Amendment rights,
  • And much more.

This bill violates the following provisions of the Massachusetts Constitution (malegislature.gov)

Article I.

All men are born free and equal, and have certain natural, essential, and unalienable rights; among which may be reckoned the right of enjoying and defending their lives and liberties; that of acquiring, possessing, and protecting property; in fine, that of seeking and obtaining their safety and happiness

Article XVII.

The people have a right to keep and to bear arms for the common defence. And as, in time of peace, armies are dangerous to liberty, they ought not to be maintained without the consent of the legislature; and the military power shall always be held in an exact subordination to the civil authority, and be governed by it.

The Preamble of the Massachusetts Constitution contains a very workable solution to this execrable legislation.

The end of the institution, maintenance, and administration of government, is to secure the existence of the body politic, to protect it, and to furnish the individuals who compose it with the power of enjoying in safety and tranquility their natural rights, and the blessings of life: and whenever these great objects are not obtained, the people have a right to alter the government, and to take measures necessary for their safety, prosperity and happiness.

Over the past few days my News Feed on Facebook has been completely filled with this Ware Ma Facebook post.  That is because my friend’s list consists of mostly Conservatives and Libertarians.  We are all absolutely overjoyed that this police department from a medium sized town in the western part of the state issued such a forceful and well thought out condemnation of  Governor Healey’s gun grabbing abomination.

Here are the most powerful and eloquent paragraphs from that post for your enjoyment.

The Ware Police Department would like to bring an important matter to your attention: the proposed anti-gun Bill currently under consideration (HD 4420, An Act Modernizing Firearms Laws). We understand that this state-level legislation has raised concerns among law-abiding citizens who value their Second Amendment rights.

We recognize that the right to bear arms is a fundamental aspect of our nation’s history and an essential component of personal and collective security. As members of the police force, we are committed to upholding the law and defending the rights of our community members.

A plethora of blatantly unconstitutional proposals litter this travesty of a Bill, too many to mention here; however, of particular egregiousness is the criminalization of carrying firearms in certain so-called “prohibited locations”, including businesses and private properties, EVEN WHILE HOLDING A VALID LICENSE TO CARRY. Not even off-duty police officers will be exempted from this appalling mandate.

Gun Free zones have been proven to have no effect on stopping crime, in fact they embolden criminals to seek out these areas as soft targets of opportunity, where their chances of meeting resistance will be minimal.

This Bill does not address criminals. Rather it focuses on making criminals out of law-abiding citizens and further hampers police agencies from combating true crime.

We believe that public input and engagement are crucial in shaping legislation that reflects the diverse perspectives and concerns of our citizens. Therefore, we encourage you, the citizens of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, who have a long and storied history of throwing off the chains of our oppressors (let not this tradition die in the hands of our generation), to actively participate in the democratic process by voicing your opinions and taking appropriate actions to safeguard your rights.

The author of that post got everything right.  He or she must be a scholar of history and the Constitution.  Every word is accurate.  I especially liked the condemnation of gun free zones.
