Round 4 starts late with assorted light jabs in comments by Johnson and friends, but McCain comes out swinging sensing a momentum shift. The first blow seems to miss high. (It certainly went right over my head until the final sentence). But the second punch is delivered square:

Charles Johnson deserves nothing but the same two-word response from any conservative. His conduct for the past two years has been, in a word, dishonorable.

“No linkies for him,” indeed! As if any honest man need fear such a miserable coward as Charles Johnson.

I am not a gentleman of the south, my grandparents came from the Island of Sicily. They taught me the importance of honor and one’s name. I’ve passed this as best I can to my teenage sons in a 21st century Massachusetts with a big assist from my soon to be 85 year old mother. I can’t speak for Charles but speaking for myself I can’t see how anyone could let that stand unanswered.

But Robert Stacy is just getting warmed up as he is setting up the next blow:

when I came under attack from LGF, my response may have struck some readers as an expression arrogance:

Charles Johnson will regret it but once,
and that will be continuously

Because I am a professional journalist, this was not a threat, but a statement of objective fact.

and then:

However, because he refused to admit or recant his error, he committed himself to a path of unjust vengeance against the innocent. In the process, he revealed himself to be a creature of unscrupulous cruelty, an immoral monster who can never expect anything but contempt from civilized people.

Another haymaker but is Johnson vulnerable to this line of attack?

McCain’s final blow covers dangerous ground, but not for Johnson:

There is a God in heaven, and the man who spitefully chooses to pursue unrighteousness will ultimately destroy himself. Therefore, wise men observe the madness of King Charles and shake their heads sadly, knowing what the final outcome must be.

Charles Johnson is already in a very deep hole and, at the frantic pace he’s digging now, can be expected to reach the fiery pit of hell no later than next Thursday.

This same God that he refers to is also a God of redemption, the bigger the sin the bigger the potential forgiveness re: Tim McVeigh . Robert Stacy invoking of the almighty in this way might set himself up for a huge counterblow; to wit:

I would remind all Christians of this little prayer that you likely pray every day:

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and do not subject us to the final test, but deliver us from the evil one. Matt 6:9-13 emphasis mine

The next two verses are even more blunt:

If you forgive others their transgressions, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you do not forgive others, neither will your Father forgive your transgressions. Matt 6:14,15

Every time you say the Our Father (of you prefer the term The Lord’s Prayer) and you choose not to forgive you are condemning yourself. Christ was very explicit here. He meant to be. This is not an optional doctrine. These are the rules.

McCain has already said he is praying for Johnson so it is also possible that there is a different meaning here.

As I am not staying up for the end of the Round (I’ll update the post with any counter Charles puts up in the morning as he is on the west coast and I have a busy day tomorrow) so I’ll give my color commentary now.

DaTechguy’s roundup of Round 4

The attacks on Johnson’s honor may or may not have been effective depending on the store that Charles set on honor, but I think the big attack is still yet to come and might have been telegraphed, my theory is this:

Johnson excels at web search, his background in tech gives him a big head up on things and produces results, however Robert Stacy McCain is an ACTUAL REPORTER. This means that he is used to building stories over time. His tactic would be to use the reporters art to investigate Charles the old fashioned journalistic way, not by web searches alone, but by interviews and writing a story backed up by sources that could lead to a solid knockout.

Since a good story needs checking and background it likely wouldn’t be ready right away, it would take perhaps a week say next Thursday?

Now if there is no there there then such an effort would likely be as successful as the Nixon White House’s attempt to get dirt on Peter Rodino, (See O’Neill’s Man of the House.) but if there is something to find at the moment Robert Stacy is highly motivated to find it.

If I am correct then sometime before the 24th would be the proper time for each man’s seconds to meet to see if the matter can be resolved with honor. It is my nature to hope for such an ending. If not then I don’t think it will go 15 rounds, I think it will be bare knuckles a la John L. Sullivan and will go 75 rounds or more unless we see a knockout.

Stay Tuned.

Update: No counterpunches for Johnson; McCain wins that round 10-9 39-38 after 4.

McCain/Johnson Round 3

Round 3 Johnson dances hitting the tea party protests magnifying the 1% crazy uncles.

Robert Stacy comes out snarking:

Patrick Swayze died before having the honor of being banned from LGF

That lands but Smitty’s snark misses weakly.

And then counters with a big one two combo in the same post:

Given the self-evident megalomania of Mad King Charles, no defense should be necessary. His one-man campaign to banish the entire blogosphere will soon end in a bunker beneath the bombed-out rubble of his Reich Chancellery. Nevertheless, I am grateful to so many good bloggers who’ve rallied unbidden to my defense

He mentions Pirates cove among others, but Teach is wrong it’s not BDS if it’s anything it’s Sullivan’s syndrome.

The second punch is with a feather but lands like a brick.

The secret to fighting a smear? Simple: Get right with God. All your sins are known by the ultimate investigative Journalist.

If you are unfairly accused, you are certainly not the first such case, nor the most important Victim in history. You have no right to complain, because even if you are innocent of the specific charge against you, you are not sinless and righteous…

…Hate is against my religion, and I am commanded to pray for my enemies. This is arguably the most difficult commandment, you see. “Thou shalt not” this, that and the other — relatively easy, compared to praying for Charles Johnson.

I give this Round to McCain. I score it 29-29 after 3.

——————-

A personal observation

When you have people willing to go on the firing line to defend you that is HUGE, I can personally say it gives you that George Baily feeling:

Right now That is Robert Stacy McCain, the richest man in the Blogosphere.

Update: The snark jabs keep landing they demonstrate why people pay money for Robert Stacy McCain columns, but don’t pay money for Robert Stacy McCain Bikini photos.

BTW the answer to the question in that post so far is 5 hits in an hour for using the phrase Hannah Giles Bikini photos. None for Mika Brzezinski bikini photos which shows that some people just don’t have eyes or don’t appreciate intelligent liberal women.

Update 2: Is this an oblique reference to this fight?

Update 3: Gateway pundit remembers the good old days.

Update 4: McCain throws another right via Founding Bloggers but he is grazed by it as well, Then another blow that one’s a doozy, Johnson doesn’t seem to notice but isn’t counter punching.

…And welcome to round 2. Johnson comes out for Round 2 swinging, McCain counterpunches we have some strong action in round one as Johnson ladned a flurry of blows, McCain blocks and counters.

To this point Johnson has been on the offense. We know Johnson has a strong methotical and unrelenting attacks from his victories in the Rather and Mapes fights.

McCain has been countering and putting up a good defense here in Round 2, but has yet to shift to offense, as we’ve seen in the Griffin and Audrey fights. McCain tends to mount his offense in mid to late rounds but they simply overpower their opponents.

We will keep you informed of the fights’ progress throughout the day as time permits.

I suspect this will be as epic and violent a contest as the Marciano Vingo fight from December of 1949.

One oddity of this fight will be that McCain lives on the east coast and Johnson on the west so McCains blows and counters will generally be morning blows while Johnson will strike in the evening.

I’ve been reading Charles Johnson for 7 or more years, he is what you would call a 9/11 conservative, basically a liberal who took 9/11 seriously and dug deep into the swamp of radical Islam, his fight against radical Islam, his exposure of the Rathergate memo and of faux photography, and his unwavering defense of Israel against all comers have been gifts to the country and the world. His support for the troops is unyielding and nobody searches the web like he does.

Robert Stacy McCain is a professional reporter who unlike many reporters of today, actually reports. He has not been shy about speaking up for conservative causes. Like Johnson he is a supporter of Israel and the troops and a hater of Radical Islam and takes 9/11 as seriously today as if it was 9/12/2001. And when it comes to the causes conservatives believe in He Fights!

Yesterday in a comment on a thread of the tea party in Washington Charles Said this:

VodkaPundit is linking to white supremacist blogger Robert Stacy McCain at Pajamas Media.

Vodka Pundit responded in a post here stating:

Now, I’ve worked with Stacy in person a couple of times, at the DNC last summer and at CPAC in February. Both were crowded, high-stress situations. At no time did I see Stacy treat anyone — of any color, creed, whathaveyou — with anything less than respect and good humor.

So, is Robert Stacy McCain a white supremacist? Hell if I know. But he enjoys breaking bread with agnostic half Jews like me, which would certainly make him a different kind of white supremacist.

And serious action took place in the comments. Charles being Charles shot back again with links from the SPLC to back him up:

Check out any of these groups on the web, Stephen, and see if I’m exaggerating.

Robert Stacy McCain being Robert Stacy McCain didn’t interrupt his eating and drinking, but late that night replied with first a comment on the Vodka thread, than an update on his main tea party blog entry concerning the commentators:

Why engage with people who think that way, except to point out that they think that way? Why should I be compelled to defend myself against such “ransom note” smears? And who is “MPH,” except an anonymous a-hole trying to recycle old left-wing attacks on me?

And finally directly to Charles in a three part tour de force this morning.

We are in a fight to preserve what remains of American liberty, and I don’t want to waste time defending myself. However, if I may be forgiven for paraphrasing a Yankee, I’m willing to fight it out on this line if it takes all week. Or I might quote Nathan Bedford Forrest’s famous words to Braxton Bragg

I’ll leave you to read the quote, any person who knows the history of the Civil war would be familiar with it. As a person who once took exception to something Charles implied and received satisfaction I can certainly understand Mr. McCain’s anger and in the same position would have reacted the same.

He will find that Johnson unlike Bragg is almost certain to keep up the fight. Foote describes Bragg’s decision to not press the matter as a combination of retaining Forest’s services to the army (which were considerable) and his belief that as an “irregular” he was “less subject to discipline for irregularities” (P 813 Civil War a Narrative v2, great book buy the whole series BTW). This means we can expect a week of back and forth, Johnson using the net and McCain using his resources as a reporter.

I don’t know either of these men personally but I’ve linked to McCain he is on my blogroll and I’m damn well not taking him off. I’m a registered commentator on LGF have been for years and I’m damn well not leaving that site either. My opinion can be summed up by these two clips this clip:

Update 2: I’ve removed the 2nd embed since it skipped the meat of the scene that I was looking for.

I have no idea how it will end but neither man is going to go anywhere quietly.

Update: Dan Riehl knows Robert Stacy personally and after this post I can see he is the type of friend I would want in my corner:

For better or worse .. worse, at times!! heh! Stacy McCain is my friend. He doesn’t deserve to be accused as he has been by Johnson. And he certainly deserves strong support from me and any other of his alleged friends, or colleagues that want to make any claim to actually knowing the man a bit. It’s Johnson that is now obviously unworthy of any more of my time. And, lastly, I do find that, as I also find Charles these days, to be somewhat sad.

So Instead of the scenes above that I would prefer to see, we will see the scene below:

Update 3: Legal Insurrection comments:

With good reason, being tagged a racist is about as damaging a tag as exists because the damage is caused once the accusation is made.

And that is the point. If you want to ruin someone’s reputation, just keep posting the words “racist” in close proximity to their name on the internet so that web search engines associate the person and the accusation. That is what some people tried to do to Glenn Beck recently by making accusations of past criminal conduct in the form of a question for the very purpose of influencing Google and other search engines.

The false accusation of racism is a despicable tactic. It damages the person against whom it is made and the victims of true racism.

And that is why I felt it necessary to speak up this time.

This is not going to be a quiet week.

Update 4: Saberpoint knows Robert Stacy and has his back too as does Dan Collins.

But the greatest defense comes from Cynthia Yockey and deserves quoting:

Beyond those few common principles, I find enormous diversity of belief and opinion in the Right, as well as a diversity of sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, race and what have you. Plus, I find women in positions of power and authority. People on the Right are able to have opposite and mutually exclusive opinions on various matters. Put together, that is real diversity.

So, yes, Stacy and I are at daggers drawn over homosexual equality, especially gay marriage equality. But he states his reasons — and his feelings. I state mine. And we remain staunch and loyal friends.

In addition, Stacy is NOT a racist — there’s just no way.

As I’ve said I don’t know Robert Stacy McCain personally, but after hearing his friends come to his defense, I sure would like to.
