Morning Joe: The wild man

Bit of a headache this morning and starting the day with Joe yelling isn’t the way to go.

6:30 a.m. Joe is very very angry, ready for the Network sequel.

6:40 a.m. Both he and Barnicle make the point that Geitner should know better.

6:55 a.m. I don’t get the fuss about dog shows. I like dogs but this is weird.

7:00 a.m. “Masterful performance?” Did they listen to him promising goodies to people yesterday?

7:03 a.m. Americans don’t care about pork, they do when they are paying for it.

7:08 a.m. Does anyone know what the Atlantic Counsel actually does? Does anyone care?

7:12 a.m. You know I really thought that with a new administration we wouldn’t see much of Hegel anymore since there was no Bush to bash. Wishful thinking I guess.

7:23 a.m. Money party: “He soiled the bed”

7:27 a.m. Joe does his Jack Welch, Mika breaks up.

7:29 a.m. You can’t defer to treasury when he has nothing to say.

7:45 a.m. Boxer says an energy bill and a Global warming bill in a few weeks. Joy.

7:47 a.m. If we can’t do all these things at once Sen why does this bill have so much extra stuff?

8:02 a.m. Here comes the lynchings bank hearings. The news segment says that they guys want to pay back as soon as soon as they can so they can’t be told what to do.

8:05 a.m. Conservatism is dead? Bullshit. You are giving a New York Times guys saying conservatism is dead and you are giving it credence?

8:07 a.m. Weren’t people saying that liberalism was dead a few years back? The NYT is more likely to die before conservatism.

8:15 a.m. Scarborough quotes Andrew Sullivan as a counter, you know it would be nice if they brought on an actual conservative like a Jonah Goldberg or a Michelle Malkin when saying this stuff.

8:25 a.m. Shock democratic strategist decided republicans are wrong to vote against their pork bill.

8:30 a.m. My head is splitting that is enough Joe for today.

Joey being Manny

A reader at National review sent in this comment after Biden said they would screw things up 3 times out of 10:

Has Joe Biden become the political equivalent of Manny Ramirez? Nothing that the VP does even elicits a questioning look anymore; it’s just “Biden being Biden” much like “Manny being Manny”.

You can’t be shocked about what you expect.

Nordlinger’s 6th and final report from Davos went up today. (I keep wanting to type Davros, that would be an interesting Nordlinger interview). He is relating a question and answer session with Václav Klaus and part of it is almost as required as the Yon story today:

Klaus has published a book called Blue Planet in Green Shackles: What Is Endangered: Climate or Freedom? He tells us that the answer is freedom—freedom is endangered—adding, “I imagine National Review would understand what I mean.” I reply, “Actually, there are differing views about global warming at National Review.”

A different journalist says, “What freedom do you mean? What freedom is endangered?” Klaus points to her and says, “Yours, mine, [turning to the WEF representative] the moderator’s. The freedom of publications like National Review.”

Still another journalist, with high-pitched indignation, says, “Are you saying that Al Gore is threatening freedom?” Klaus answers, “More or less. Environmentalism and the global-warming alarmism are challenging our freedom; Al Gore is an important person in this movement.”

About the financial crisis, Klaus says, “I am more afraid of the ‘reforms’ that will result from the crisis than I am of the crisis itself. I’m afraid that the current crisis will be misused for radically constraining the functioning of the markets and market economies all around the world. I’m afraid of the potential consequences of overactivity by politicians,” as those politicians “try to win votes by pretending that they are coming to the rescue.”

Bingo!

Told ya:

Statement of His Excellency Bernard Fellay, Superior of the Fraternity of St. Pius X

We have become aware of an interview released by Bishop Richard Williamson, a member of our Fraternity of St. Pius X, to Swedish television. In this interview, he expressed himself on historical questions, and in particular on the question of the genocide against the Jews carried out by the Nazis.

It’s clear that a Catholic bishop cannot speak with ecclesiastical authority except on questions that regard faith and morals. Our Fraternity does not claim any authority on other matters. Its mission is the propagation and restoration of authentic Catholic doctrine, expressed in the dogmas of the faith. It’s for this reason that we are known, accepted and respected in the entire world.

It’s with great sadness that we recognize the extent to which the violation of this mandate has done damage to our mission. The affirmations of Bishop Williamson do not reflect in any sense the position of our Fraternity. For this reason I have prohibited him, pending any new orders, from taking any public positions on political or historical questions.

We ask the forgiveness of the Supreme Pontiff, and of all people of good will, for the dramatic consequences of this act. Because we recognize how ill-advised these declarations were, we can only look with sadness at the way in which they have directly struck our Fraternity, discrediting its mission.

This is something we cannot accept, and we declare that we will continue to preach Catholic doctrine and to administer the sacraments of grace of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Exactly as predicted. Who wants to be on the society putting out such a statement if the excommunications weren’t lifted? anyone? Bueller, Bueller?

Damian Thompson comments:

The arrogant group took its time, I must say, but by punishing and disgracing Williamson it has helped clear the path for eventual reconciliation with Rome. Let’s hope that this nasty old man now takes himself off to the SSPV or some other loony sect. He can be their Pope (or Führer, if he prefers).

I’ve gotta blogroll this guy. One disagreement with his article I suspect the Pope anticipated this result and if he didn’t the Holy Spirit did. Via LGF.

Update: Well this is going to win a lot of friends in the Catholic community. Perfect timing too right after the Society’s move and the Vatican statements.

Well at least Obama will be behind them 100% and if nothing else it will guarantee Israel good press for at least 30 seconds, maybe longer!

Update 2: Catholic and Enjoying says he didn’t know that Bishop Lefebvre’s dad died in a concentration camp. Neither did I.
