Stacy McCain’s great grandfather became a prisoner of war of the United states of America.

He was not given Hatal foods, or elliptical trainers and didn’t have the money of Bin Laden nor a large left wing infrastructure interested in his rights.

Somehow when released he didn’t spend the rest of his life trying to kill northerners or teach his children. Yet because of his fight (for a cause I think stunk) many of our friends on the left hold him and his decedents is a lower regard then people who are currently trying to kill us.

There is a lesson there for our friends on the left.

Well not everyone. AMERICAblog expresses surprise:

You’ll remember Petraeus as one of the Iraq war’s biggest defenders. Which is interesting, since the Senate Democrats just a few years ago produced a lengthy analysis of how flawed Petraeus’ Iraq testimony really was.

They get full marks for consistency, but it’s funny I’m sure the first thing on everybody’s mind was his testimony. It prompted the following comment from me:

Perhaps our democratic friends have discovered that “flawed congressional testimony” doesn’t trump actual success in winning a war.

I’ve already said I don’t care who commands as long as we win (and don’t have to do without Lara Logan). Little Miss Attila is still worried:

I actually think it was a clever move, though I wonder whether it’s possible to salvage the situation at this point.

And I offer her these words of encouragement:

Have faith Joy, after all that’s what the World Cup announcers were saying at the 90th minute of today’s match.

However Michal Yon in an e-mail to Glenn is more bullish:

I was there through the entire surge, and more, and saw the remarkable transformation under command of General Petraeus and due to the incredible efforts of our armed forces and civilian counterparts. No book that I have read, including the one that I wrote, has fully conveyed the magnitude of those days. You simply had to be there.

Here we are again. This time on the cusp of losing the war in Afghanistan. The situation is worse than ever before. Again, the United States has asked General David Petraeus to step into a situation that seems hopeless to many people. It is not hopeless, just extremely bad.

We have not yet begun to fight.

Maybe my “Am I worth half as much as Andrew Sullivan” fundraiser…

…hasn’t proved all that successful suggesting (so far) that I’m not worth even 1% of the old Andrew Sullivan. (feel free to prove that wrong by hitting DaTipJar.)

However from this post at Glenn’s it seems clear that Andrew Sullivan isn’t worth half as much as the old Andrew Sullivan either.

By “soon realizes,” Andrew means I linked to Baker in the same post — not even in an update. But Baker doesn’t actually say there’s no US kill switch. Baker thinks a US kill switch is a good idea, in response to threats from other countries.

My favorite part (and likely Peg, and Stacy’s, and Pam Geller’s…) is this finish:

As for the large numbers of readers who always email that I shouldn’t respond to Andrew’s trolling, well, I usually don’t. But every once in a while it’s worth noting just how sadly he’s declined. And, as is done with regard to a certain other attention-seeking blogger he’s coming to resemble

He must be talking about a certain little green blogger that Glenn hasn’t instalanched in a very long time. Perhaps this comment I wrote about Johnson applies to Sullivan too:

Also consider that an instalanche means other blogs will pick up your posts in reference. Imaginable the cumulative effect of this happening every two weeks for 8 years. It is mind boggling!…

…and then it suddenly stops!

On a more serious note, I think Sullivan has decided that he has grown a bit more MSNBCish and is writing to his Chris Matthews show niche market audience. In terms of a job, it makes sense and will keep his bills paid. As a person who is beginning to struggle to pay his, may I never reach that point.

Interesting contrast “Government” vs “Taxpayers”

Apparently it all depends on what is being paid for.

When it is welfare and other social programs that the left likes it is “Government” paying for it.

But if it is something unpopular like say the oil spill, then it becomes the taxpayer money.

This is not a comment on how it should be paid for but it’s an interesting contrast as to when the media decides the money belongs to us isn’t it?

Personally I’m delighted that the left has discovered the source of government funding and hope they can remember it in the future.
