The Detroit “Proselytizing case” will decide if we go the way of Europe

On Memeorandum nobody has noticed as of 7:53 but this case will decide the future of this country more than any other:

Four Christian missionaries were arraigned today on misdemeanor charges of disturbing the peace following their June 18 arrest at the Arab International Festival.

Negeen Mayel, 18, of California; Nabeel Qureshi, 29, of Virginia; Paul Rezkalla, 18 of New York, and David Wood, 34, also of New York, face fines of up to $500 each and up to 93 days in jail. Dearborn authorities said the four “chose to escalate their behavior, which appeared well-orchestrated and deliberate”emphasis mine as they handed out religious literature and talking with people at the festival. The woman and three men are members or founders of a group called “Acts 17 Apologetics.”

They deliberately choose to preach the religion they follow, horrors of horrors. If we allow that then the next thing you know people will think they have freedom of speech or assembly or the right to a jury trial or something! The Thomas Moore Law Center answers:

But Ann Arbor attorney Robert Muise, senior trial counsel with the Thomas More Law Center, said their constitutional rights were violated and they engaged in no illegal behaviors.

“The encroachment of the First Amendment is just astonishing,” said Muise, who said police confiscated the video cameras and have yet to return them, despite repeated requests. He said he would take the case to trial.

“We’re not going to plead to anything because we didn’t do anything wrong,” Muise said.

This is the whole game right here. If it is decided that Christianity can’t be preached in a majority Muslim city in the US then we are finished as a country.

This is where we will find out if our friends on the left have the love of the 1st amendment or a hatred of Christianity. We got one clue yesterday when the FATWA against Molly Norris drew yawns. This will confirm it.

On and you might noticed I tagged this under “war on terror” if you don’t understand that this case is a fight in it then you need to get a clue.

A charismatic terror leader linked to the botched Times Square car bomb has placed the Seattle cartoonist who launched “Everybody Draw Mohammed Day” on an execution hitlist.

The Yemeni-American cleric Anwar al-Awlaki – the radical who’s also been cited as inspiring the Fort Hood, Tex., massacre and the plot by two New Jersey men to kill U.S. soldiers – singled out artist Molly Norris as a “prime target,” saying her “proper abode is Hellfire.”

I formally declare you a barbarian preaching a barbaric version of a false religion. Only the fact of your humanity and creation in God image combined with the Christian requirement to love your enemy prevents me from wishing you damned.

who believes in the first amendment I am ethically compelled to stand with Molly Norris. If you come for one of us you are coming for all of us, and we will defend ourselves against both you and your minions.

Therefore in that spirit I formally request to be included in your Fatwa, because if you get Molly Norris I will host my own Everybody Draw Mohammad and Al-Awlaki Day here and ask my readers to send drawings of Mohammad and of you to be posted and laughed at as you deserve.

I also formally call upon other bloggers to pledge to host an Everybody draw Muhammad and Al-Awlaki day if these barbarian bastards manage to get her and suggest that you put up a post with the tag I stand with Molly Norris as soon as possible to show your support for both her and the first Amendment. I particularly call on our friends on the left who claim to value free speech so greatly to prove it.

I further call upon every US Mosque to publicly denounce this Fatwa and call for its removal.

We are Americans, we stand together Mr. Al-Awlaki. We defy you and your utmost malice.

The thing is, people like Anwar al-Awlaki don’t accept apologies. If you don’t believe what they believe, they don’t care about your regrets. They don’t want you to talk at all. Even if you live in Seattle and you live liberally and you draw cutesy little cartoons and you congratulate yourself for being “progressive.” Even if you’re just kidding. These thugs don’t care. They want you dead.

Update 3: WordPress has announced support for something called the 1forall campaign in favor of the 1st amendment. Strangely enough although some commentators mentioned Bush and the patriot act and the oil spill nobody had mentioned Molly. I’ve put a challenge in comments to join me in Supporting Molly Norris and opposing Al-Awlaki. I’ll let you know what they say.

Too late. Contrition doesn’t carry much weight in Islam. No one has a right to offend Islam, or blaspheme against it. Whether Mohammad is depicted as a pedophilic ogre, as a knock-off of Charlton Heston’s Moses, or as a teacup, it matters not. It is forbidden. “Sorry” doesn’t cut it. Facebook also caved to Muslim demands and took down the page.

And as for that challenge about the 1st amendment. HA!

My review of the Ayaan Hirsi Ali’s new book Nomad: From Islam to America: A Personal Journey Through the Clash of Civilizations is available here.

This book is one of the most conservative books I’ve read. If you take a look at the some of the cultural practices described in the book you almost understand why liberals are so ok with Islam.

Everything costs something as England will discover

One of my random thoughts of a few days ago was this:

Is it just me or does the entire Arab world work like a giant Mafia family?

Well today at Pajamas media they discuss the costs of a nation appeasing this de-facto mafia family.

As a result, Brits look away while their Muslim communities are taken over by fascist zealots who enforce dress and behavior codes, who silence dissent, and who mobilize a resentful youth with violent hatreds. For these men, infidels are by definition guilty, deserving rape and lethal assault, as part of Allah’s justice. Douglas Murray’s study of twenty-seven Muslims, targeted by zealots, reveals the workings of a community hijacked by thugs.

The trials and tribulations of Afshan Azad, the Bengali Muslim-born actress in the Harry Potter films, beaten and threatened with death by her family, illustrate the depth of the community pressures. Her brothers’ failures to bring her to heel (or kill her) endanger their lives: “We are going to get trouble from the community now. It is bad news for our safety, her safety. My younger brother is going to get harassed at college. All our family is going to be harassed by the community because of this.” The tribal community rules, even in college.

So while a large and growing population falls under the grip of a Mafioso culture with an imperialist ideology of world conquest, the British look away. The “prestigious” London School of Economics disinvited Douglas Murray from speaking, lest his presence provoke violence.

Read the whole thing. The problem with concessions is this. When you make concessions for the sake of convenience you make opponent stronger and you divert your own strength against yourself. This emboldens them to seek further concessions. When they continue each concession makes them stronger and you weaker. Eventually it reaches the point where you aren’t making concessions for convenience but out of fear and then out of necessity and finally out of desperation.

It’s up to us, or in the case of England up to them.
