Democrats Stepping into the Abortion Bear Trap on Court Packing

About a week ago I saw a piece at the NYT that argued that Democrats would be better off if Roe v Wade was repealed and sent back to the states on the grounds that it would take the issue off the table and allow religious people who might like Democrat social programs but for some reason draw a line in the sand over murdering kids, a reason to return to the party.

I found the argument interesting in the sense that the reason why I left the Democrat Party in the 90’s was I concluded that as a practicing Catholic I just plan wasn’t welcome anymore.

That issue, becoming the sacred cow for the party combined with the move of the Democrats to a secular party makes a tough generational fight against a party that welcomes those who choose to “be fruitful and multiply” but amazingly the Democrats are on the verge of repeating this mistake with a totally different set of voters on a totally different issue. Court Packing.

Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have already balked on giving their position on the issue (I helpfully outlined it for them earlier this week) and it seems they are not the only candidates ducking and weaving with the subject comes around.

Other Democrats, in safe seats in deep blue states have been less circumspect:

Senator Ed Markey of Massachusetts recently urged Democrats to support court-packing if Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell moves to confirm President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett.

“Mitch McConnell set the precedent,” Markey tweeted. “No Supreme Court vacancies filled in an election year. If he violates it, when Democrats control the Senate in the next Congress, we must abolish the filibuster and expand the Supreme Court.”

Congressman Joe Kennedy of Massachusetts issued a similar statement in support of court packing. “If [McConnell] holds a vote in 2020, we pack the court in 2021. It’s that simple,” he tweeted on September 19. Grassroots progressive groups like the Justice Democrats have also supported the idea.

Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Saturday told NBC, “We should leave all options on the table, including the number of justices that are on the Supreme Court.” Her remarks have also been echoed by Democratic Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York.

Their public embrace of this position completely changes the game and cements the trap.

This means that in every house race and in every senate race this year the whole “packing the court” issue can be raised over and over again and Democrats will have the fun choice of bucking their angry Marxist base or keeping their mouth shut

I’m suggested that Trump can checkmate the Democrats by introducing a Constitutional Amendment to fix the Supreme Court at nine seats. While it will come in handy this time around it has The democrats rejection of such an amendment can cement the issue for those worried about the destruction of the court system for decades.

It will be abortion all over with a whole different set of voters.

If Conservatives are smart they will force the Democrats into this dilemma and if they play it right, they’ll have an issue that will make coin GOP majorities long after Donald Trump is out of office.

If Democrats are smart they’ll help that constitutional amendment I suggested pass congress and while feigning opposition guide it though ratification to take the issue off the table as soon as possible, because if they don’t this trap will close on the and hold their party tight.

Questions the mainstream media needs to be asking Biden

Last week CNN hosted a town hall for Joe Biden where he was given softball questions. No, on second thought they were T-ball questions. 

The demands on whoever is president are brutal. If CNN believes that Biden can’t handle challenging queries then that in my opinion disqualifies him to be leader of the most powerful nation on the planet. And if CNN is just shilling for the Democrats, then no one should take them seriously as a news outlet. Based on their poor ratings, most people already do not. 

Here are some questions that responsible reporters should be asking Biden. The wonderful thing about the questions I’ve devised is that most of them can be posed to President Trump. Yes, a few of these queries have been given to Biden, but generally only once and with dismissive answers from the Democratic nominee.

Here we go:

  • Will you be releasing the names of your potential Supreme Court nominees, as President Trump did as a candidate in 2016 and did earlier this month?
  • Do you support “packing the Supreme Court,” that is, nominating additional justices to the court to go beyond nine members?
  • Where’s Hunter?
  • Do you unconditionally oppose Antifa?
  • Will a Biden administration investigate plots by Antifa and other groups to incite riots in cities such as Portland?
  • You favor a nationwide mask mandate to fight COVID-19. What is your legal basis for instituting one?
  • Do you support statehood for the District of Columbia? And for Puerto Rico?
  • Many states, such as Illinois, Kentucky, and New Jersey, have public-sector worker pension plans that are essentially bankrupt. Do you support a federal bailout of these and other state worker pension plans?
  • Numerous cities also have similarly under-funded pension plans. Will you back a bailout of those plans?
  • What is your position on bailing out states whose tax revenues have plummeted because of COVID-19 lockdowns?
  • Do you favor allowing states to declare bankruptcy?
  • Speaking of Illinois, in 2008 the US Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, Patrick Fitzgerald, was in the midst of a corruption investigation of Rod Blagojevich, the governor of the state, and Tony Rezko, a member of Blago’s inner circle who donated large sums to the campaigns of Barack Obama. Your ticket mate kept Fitzgerald in his post after becoming president. This year John Lausch, the current US Attorney in Chicago, is in the thick of investigating more public corruption. The center of this scandal appears to be longtime Illinois state House speaker Michael Madigan who is also the chairman of the state Democratic Party. If elected will you keep Lausch in his post?
  • Where’s Hunter?
  • If elected you will be older than Ronald Reagan, the oldest person to serve as president, was when he left office after two terms. Are you physically and mentally up to the office? If you are now what will happen if you one day are not?
  • Do you support the Green New Deal?
  • Do you support fracking?
  • Do you support nuclear power?
  • Do you support coal power?
  • Do you back amnesty for illegal immigrants?
  • Do you utilize teleprompters during interviews and question-and-answer sessions?
  • Where’s Hunter?

I’m sure there are many more questions readers can come up with.

Five Simple 2+2=5 Questions for Biden Voters of the Left (and one Insurance question)

I noticed this post at Stacy McCain’s site about a big time liberal Bernie Socialist voter who works in a Nursing Home in NY and is both:

  1. Angry at the democrats for the Biden/Harris Ticket as not radical enough
  2. Angry at Andrew Cuomo over his Covid response.

That reminded me of the axiom that people are always conservative about things that pertain to them. For example the elites of the left champion public schools and deride charter schools, while making sure their kids aren’t anywhere near them.

So it hit me that the best way to explain to a woke Biden voter that all of this 2+2=5 stuff that will continue to be pushed if he is elected is dangerous is to give them real life examples of where that comes into play.

So let me ask you, oh Biden/Bernie voter these questions:

  • Will you feel comfortable having your breaks fixed by a mechanic who has been taught that hydraulic force manipulation is racist western concept?
  • Will you feel comfortable getting a prescription for your medication if the person determining your dosage has been taught that 2+2=4 is a racist western concept?
  • Will you feel comfortable getting a replacement heart valve designed by someone taught that 2+2=4 is a racist western concept or put in by a surgeon who has been taught the same?

Finally:

  • If you were an insurance company would you insure any of the people or devices unless there was a clause voiding coverage if any of them worked under the assumptions taught that I listed above. I’ve listed above?

When you choose to vote Biden and surrender in the culture wars to the radical left that now runs our universities, this is what you are voting for.

A lot of people think the riots are the most dangerous thing that the Democrats are pushing but those can be beaten back, but if you lose the basic building blocks of science and engineering, your society never progresses again.

It’s your choice but if you’re going to make choice, do it with your eyes wide open.

Closing thought: I submit and suggest if we had people teaching this at the time of the creation of the TVA we would not have the Raccoon Lake Battery today:

Raccoon Mountain Lake is not your typical Tennessee Valley Authority lake. Carved out of the top of a mountain just west of Chattanooga, its purpose is to store excess energy produced by the TVA when it is generating more hydro and nuclear electricity than is being consumed. The excess energy is used to pump water uphill from the Tennessee River. During periods of peak demand, the water is sent back down, running 1,080 feet through a tunnel in the mountain and generating electricity as it returns to the river. In effect, the lake is a battery. It can generate 1.6 million kw hours of electricity per day. Here’s a time-lapse video of it filling back up after being emptied to generate electricity.
