Type: Noun

Accepted Meaning A group of persons directed to perform some duty.

Actual meaning: When prefaced by the word “government.” Political Cover

Purpose of accepted meaning: To deceive the public as to your true intentions.

Result of said purpose: Being able to vote for an unpopular law without actually taking responsibility saying that you are only following the recommendations of the commission.

Commentary:

In this case very simple. The public is on the verge of a tax revolt but the liberals/progressives/socialists want to perpetuate and expand the welfare state. In order to do so they need to find a new source of revenue but the only source that is available is the middle/lower classes. As has already been demonstrated support for a VAT is political death. The new Fiscal commission has one single purpose: To give congressional democrats political cover for the creation of a national VAT/sales tax. Even rank and file democrats aren’t going to support this, but once there is a commission then the media will make it the “responsible” decision and the lemmings who walk with the democrats and the media will do so.

And let me tell you once Government has a new source of revenue from you, democrats, republicans et/al they will want it for themselves!

If we as a people do this to ourselves then we will deserve the end result.

You have been warned.

Update: Via Itsonlywords on twitter. Can someone explain to me how the president say: “at a certain point you’ve made enough money” but there is never a certain point where we have been taxed enough nor a certain point when the government has spent enough?

Update 2: HotAir makes it the quote of the day

…the press didn’t have a lot of objections to “blow Jobs“:

The White House is working hard to secure deals that yield fluffy, feel good commentary about the Obama White House. One American White House reporter used colorful terms to describe the arrangement. The reporter said, “They want ‘blow jobs’ first [in the press sense]. Then you have to be on good behavior for a bit or be willing to deal, and then you get access.”

When you sell yourself for a living It just becomes a matter of haggling.

You just knew Robert Stacy was going to have fun with this didn’t you and Ann Althouse and the Mudville Gazette comment, but it is Ed Driscoll who asks the important question:

Considering the near-monolithically favorable coverage that Obama received on the campaign trail from the inside the Beltway crowd, to equally gushing coverage after The One won the gig, how gushing does the hagiography have to get before it qualifies for B.J.-level “journalism” in the White House’s jaundiced eyes?

MSM you have no business complaining, you did this to yourselves.

Coming attractions for America

The Lonely Conservative via the astute blogger tells the tale from the Telegraph.

Documents seen by The Sunday Telegraph disclose that staff at Britain’s largest ambulance service have been encouraged to maximise the organisation’s income, by securing payments for diverting patients to telephone helplines.

but that’s not all

Another plan uncovered would see thousands of 999 calls currently classed as urgent downgraded so that callers receive telephone advice instead of an ambulance response.

If you are surprised at this type of thing its only because you haven’t been paying attention. She concludes:

If the progressive Democrats really gave a hoot about the uninsured in America, they could have just done another stimulus program to buy them all insurance. But it’s not about that. It’s about control. History proves that when governments start controlling things there is epic failure. Just look at the two stories above. That’s our future if Obamacare stands.

Exactly right. Just remember it took years for this type of stuff to start happening. Our friends on the left will insist where’s the fire? Have no fear, if we fail to repeal we will not only see these same effects but as we were forewarned we will deserve them.

Via Dan Collins (buy his book) Dennis the Peasant gets to the heart of the problem:

And because Obamacare incentivizes non-coverage by imposing employer fines for non-coverage that are far less than the cost of offering health insurance, there’s an excellent chance (in this economy of roughly 17%-18% actual unemployment) that companies will be dropping health benefits rather than adding them. Employers can afford to; they have highly skilled workers waiting in line to beg for a job with or without health insurance.

Remember it is a lot cheaper to pay the fine than to actually cover the employee, so who is going to have to pay that cost? Back to Dennis:

Next year you’re going to have to purchase the insurance yourself or pay a large fine and face the possibility of prosecution and imprisonment.

So the end result thousands of dollars spent by people on health insurance that will not be spent on other things, like vacations, or restaurants, or that x-box 360 or COLLEGE or the MORTGAGE. Since it is Dennis’ piece I’ll give him the last word:

Ignore the above at your own risk, Democrats. I’ve been dealing with people and their money on a professional basis for over 25 years. The fastest way to enrage the average American is to try to force them to reduce their standard of living. People will lie, cheat, steal, and kill to continue to live in the manner to which they are accustomed. That’s just the way it is. And that is the fatal flaw in The Plan… When it comes down to it, the political will to force the electorate to be poorer will not be there.

I wish I wrote that.
