Posts Tagged ‘life is good’

…and I’ll have at least two more follow up posts concerning it, but let me tell you something.

It is a great pleasure to have the time to make a nice dinner for the wife, and pick up a few flowers for her.

Stacy and I have a lot in common although I’m perhaps the more restrained version, but there is one thing that is exactly the same about us…

…we both feel we have hit the lottery when it comes to marriage. I’ve had a rough year but a rough year with my wife beside me is better than a smooth year with anyone else (even the Charming Roxeanne). For all his jokes I have no doubt he feels the same about his lady.

When you have the right wife you have everything.

Robert’s arch enemy gets an insta-putdown without an instalanche and ‘Bama wins at the Rose Bowl. Their cup over floweth.

I must confess I have no interest in college sports (then again I don’t think he has an interest in Dr. Who so we’re even) but looking at the highlights my first thought is that young replacement QB for Texas played an acceptable game in an impossible situation. I would not want to coach against him in a few years because this is likely the most pressure he will ever face in the sport short of the pros.

Victory comes from a combination of skill and taking advantage of breaks when they come. Alabama did both and their victory is well earned.

Here is a story I never expected to be reading:

Former U.S. president Jimmy Carter has apologized to the American Jewish community for ‘stigmatizing Israel’ and asked for forgiveness for his actions, the JTA reported on Monday.

“We must recognize Israel’s achievements under difficult circumstances, even as we strive in a positive way to help Israel continue to improve its relations with its Arab populations, but we must not permit criticisms for improvement to stigmatize Israel,” Carter wrote in a letter to the JTA.

“As I would have noted at Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, but which is appropriate at any time of the year, I offer an Al Het for any words or deeds of mine that may have done so,” Carter wrote, referring to the prayer said on Yom Kippur in which Jews ask God for forgiveness for any sins.

As you know I’m a big fan of confession, but I’ve never expected this one.

Who says miracles can’t happen on this magic day of Festivus?

I guess he wanted to preempt the traditional airing of grievances but I as said last year, I have teenagers, every day is for the airing of grievances.

Happy Festivus to all who celebrate it and have a nice day to everyone else.

Update: I’m no expect of Jewish Theology but I know a bit about Christianity in general and Catholicism in particular. I’m a bit bothered by the reactions on this thread where I found the Carter story. Remember the rules:

I would remind all Christians of this little prayer that you likely pray every day:

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and do not subject us to the final test, but deliver us from the evil one. Matt 6:9-13 emphasis mine

The next two verses are even more blunt:

If you forgive others their transgressions, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you do not forgive others, neither will your Father forgive your transgressions. Matt 6:14,15

Every time you say the Our Father (of you prefer the term The Lord’s Prayer) and you choose not to forgive you are condemning yourself. Christ was very explicit here. He meant to be. This is not an optional doctrine. These are the rules.

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again, the presence of one’s enemies will not make hell any more bearable.

Update 2: Speaking of grievances

Isn’t that nice. Oh, in a not-at-all related story, Jimmy Carter’s grandson is running for Congress {incorrect see update 3 DTG} in a Georgia district that has a significant (at least for Georgia) Jewish population.

“Hey, I am really sorry for all that anti-Israel stuff I have been doing for years and years. I am also really sorry that I left that Holocaust thing out of my book on Israel and all the other things. Yeah, really sorry about that. Have you met my Grandson Jason, he is running for Congress and he really likes Jews.”

That gives an interesting twist to the story.

Update 3: Jumping in Pools says he is running for state senate rather than congress, Creative Minority report’s point remains. My thanks for the heads up and the correction. He did however leave his comment informing me of this at this post on St. Joseph instead of here.

…in terms of hits.

#10 is from Sept 22nd. The title says it all:

DaTechGuy Banned by LGF.

I guess this would qualify under rule 4.

#9 with 6% more hits than #10 is from May 7th and deals with Baseball and the wisdom of youth, a particular youth.

That Theo Epstein is really smart:

The topic of the post was Manny and steroids. I think it’s still a valid question, would Manny have made the money he did without the drugs?

#8 with about 9% more hits than #7 was big news on Oct 22nd 2009:

BOOM! SARAH PALIN ENDORCES HOFFMAN!

This was big news then and the fact that it lead to the defeat of Dede is still one of the best things that has happened to the GOP, David Frum not withstanding

#7 has a full 31% increase on #8 but the numbers are a bit phony in one respect. From April 30th 2009:

Breast cancer at 10

The story is sad but the hits were totally accidental, I linked to the blog that contained the story, apparently I was the only trackback so a lot of people clicked through. Some good news the latest news from the blog suggests a happy ending.

#6 increased traffic 18% over #7 and is only 10 days old December 1st, 2009. Again the origin of the hits involves the trials of someone small and green:

FLASH! Charles Johnson trolls for hits: Lobbies to be an MSNBC regular…

No word on if MSNBC has called yet.

#5 increases the hits by a further 17% and proves that sex sells over anger. From June 24th 2009:

I would rather get laid than be president…

There is actually an update on that story in today’s news. The extra hits came via Michelle and the Anchoress. My trackbacks never show up on Michelle’s blog anymore for some reason.

Believe it or not there is an exact tie for #3 both with a 7% increase from #5 and both are from the same day (Sept 15th) dealing with pretty much the same subject:

How much traffic can you actually get from Hannah Giles Bikini photos?

Look at the hits Update: (and they keep coming)

Ironically the hits actually came not from the googlebomb from Hannah Giles Bikini photos but from the same source as our next entry…

#2 that comes from the same day as the two posts at #3 but managed to get 89% more hits than either. The reason is in the title

Morning Joe notices Acorn…Update: Welcome Rush Listeners!

It wasn’t a direct link, Michelle Malkin’s top story was linked directly by Rush and My link is the first trackback on her page. All three posts had hits through the roof because of it showing that a secondary Rush provides link provides more hits than Sex, but not more hits than…

#1 From Feb 2nd 2009. It is an increase of 122% over #2 and accounts for more hits than #2-4 combined

Human Rights (watch is optional)

This is of course my instalanche, I remember the day well. I had put up the post on the president and Rendition. Nothing much happened for most of the day. I was surfing that afternoon and left the computer as it was time for dinner. I went to the table, ate, came back to the den and looked at my stats and they were through the roof. The post had gone up before 7 a.m. but Glenn’s post went up at just before 5 p.m. and that’s when the hits went crazy.

I have yet to see another day like that one or another instalance, but to all of you who have come and stayed, my heartfelt thanks.
