…so to see if my thoughts on the spin, propaganda, template mainstream media reporting is correct I’m going to avoid the write ups about the speech until I see what Morning Joe does with it today.

My base prediction has already been made so lets see if it is correct.

I will make only this comment from part of last night’s twitter stream that I saw. There was a telling comment:

Barbara McMahon (Aka @Southsalem) tweeted this and I saw it before I wrote what I did above

RT @RussertXM_NBC: Allen West: “When he talked abt American exceptionalism & American dream Gr8 2finally hear him say those type of things.”

That sounds like a complement, but consider. Barack Obama ran for president starting in 2007/2008 he has been president for over two years and he is only NOW talking about American exceptionalism?

Does anybody seriously believe he would talk this way if his party wasn’t seriously rejected at the polls in November? When a pol only starts talking about American exceptionalism when he needs to recover from a political defeat, that means he doesn’t believe in it and never has.

UPDATE: Holy Moley! The reaction from Morning Joe except for Howard Dean is “flat”.

When you hear them talk “substance” vs the “optics” on MSNBC that tell you that this is an epic fail.

I can’t remember the sitcom it was from (I think it was Herman’s Head), but I remember seeing a show where there was this exchange:

Guy 1: “What did you think of the movie?”

Guy 2: “I really liked the cinematography…”

Guy 1: “That bad eh.”

Boy it must have been really bad if these guys are saying this kind of thing. It will be interesting to see what they say about the republican response.

Andrea Mitchell says: ” He didn’t mention gun control”, Dean answers: “He didn’t mention Abortion either”

REWRITE!

Update 2 Even worse they showed a clip of Michelle Bachmann’s speech and not a single word of snark from the panel. If they can’t snark Bachmann on MSNBC this is panic time for Democrats.

Update 3:
They complement Paul Ryan, the White House is calling Comacst to ask them to get Olbermann back on the air STAT!

Update 4: Not a another word about Michelle Bachmann’s response. I suspect they will continue to avoid it, after reading her speech I see why. If her delivery was as good as the speech then they HAVE to keep it off the air. When you spend months trying to spin her as some kind of violent nut you don’t dare show video that proves you wrong.

Update 5: I leave to drop one kid at school and give a ride to the other whose car was dropped off at T & R Custom Automotive (check out their DaTechGuy deal on labor) and here comes the instalanche. Thanks Glenn.

Now they are talking Backmann and their big critique is the tea party feed (although Mika to her credit says we’ve all looked at the wrong camera…after saying its all about her) If this is the best MSNBC can do for the White House then they are in real trouble.

For many weeks we have seen democrats, the media, and the Morning Joe crew go after republicans saying “What will they actually cut?”

Then republicans started naming cuts and suddenly came the line today on Morning Joe. “They are cutting the things that will hurt us in the long run.”

Even Funnier when talking about Colin Powell, who no matter how much the media wants to pretend the president is on a roll, recognizes that The One™ is not riding high and wants to again be invited to big paying republican speaking gigs, Charles Blow in casual conversation mentioned how Joe Scarborough is not really considered a republican and naming David Frum as another example. Joe insisted that he is still a member of the club and that “regular” republicans are still who they are. He pointed to John McCain’s primary win (neglecting the fact that the conservative vote was split among several candidates) and Blow answered that he had gone right Crazy and had picked “Crazy”.

Not a word, not a peep, wasn’t called on it.

Bill Bennett pegged it weeks ago. Joe you’re a nice guy and all but it is what it is. You are the most conservative host on MSNBC hand down, but that is like being the most chaste lady at the Chicken ranch.

Are you are republican? Sure, but republicans are a conservative party and you are becoming less and less conservative. The idea of crying “cut waste” just makes you sound silly.

For a list of what republicans believe click Barbara’s post here.

As I said a while back sooner or later you have to join the side you’re on.

Morning Joe et/al is breathlessly reporting that the president’s number are up, that a slight majority favor keeping Obamacare and things are turning around for the pres.

The media is all over this but if you look at the actual report there is a set of numbers not getting play:

Q15 Generally speaking, do you think of yourself as (ROTATE:) a Democrat, a Republican, an independent, or something else? (IF “DEMOCRAT” OR “REPUBLICAN,” ASK:) Would you call yourself a strong (Democrat/Republican) or not a very strong (Democrat/Republican)? (IF “NOT SURE,” CODE AS “NOT VERY STRONG DEMOCRAT/REPUBLICAN.”) (IF “INDEPENDENT,” ASK:) Do you think of yourself as closer to the Republican Party, closer to the Democratic Party, or do you think of yourself as strictly independent? (IF “NOT SURE,” CODE AS “STRICTLY INDEPENDENT.”)
Strong Democrat ………………………….20
Not very strong Democrat ……………..11
Independent/lean Democrat …………..10
Strictly Independent………………………18
Independent/lean Republican …………11
Not very strong Republican ……………9
Strong Republican ………………………..12
Other (VOL) …………………………………7
Not sure …………………………………….2

So let’s get this straight, this poll of Registered (vs likely) voters that is showing the president’s numbers improving samples 31% democrats (or 41% counting learners) and 21% Republicans (32% counting learners). And you are judging national opinion on this? You are calling this news?

Think of it this way. If you had a poll on the popularity of the Red Sox vs the Yankees and asked 3 Guys from Boston for every 2 guys from New York City how would the Red Sox do?

This is what you call spin. The media manufacturing a story to create a bounce that doesn’t actually exist.

If people fall for this it is their own fault.

Again the transformation from the “when is she going to speak out” before she talked to the “she shouldn’t’ make it about herself”.

Guys I like you but are you actually listening to yourselves? You have given 10 minutes to Sarah Palin because it is your attempt to boost ratings. Remember MSNBC + CNN doesn’t manage to manage to draw as many views as Fox, so you go all Sarah Palin to fire up the niche market and to draw eyeballs of folks like me to see what you guys are going to say.

Mike, I love you, we are both guys from the kingdom, but if you decide that if you are tweeting you are not a serious person that places you in firmly in the middle of the 20th century (when you are born) c’mon Mike.

The problem is people on the right who don’t support her for president see this totally differently:

I continue to believe that Sarah Palin is not yet qualified to be president, but my admiration for her continues to grow. Her interview with Sean Hannity, just aired, was almost pitch-perfect. It was dignified. It was well-modulated. It was strong. And it was thoughtful. She kept her composure even as Hannity put on the screen some of the vilest, most vicious attacks against her — the sorts of things that were so bad that if they were said about me they might shake me to my core. She explained her thought process after hearing about the shooting in Tucson, and explained the timing of her videotaped message, and explained her use of the term “blood libel.” She insisted, rightly, that strong and honest — but respectful — political debate should not be stifled, and noted that it only seems like the right is asked to stifle its views. She was correct on all counts.

Guys, I understand your job is to draw ratings but c’mon guys is there no other way to get audience?

Oh btw I was checking school cancellations so I missed a few min, I don’t know if they mentioned the Fuller Brush man’s apology, but I’ll watch through the 7 a.m. hour to see if that changes.

Update: They find the brush man at 6:33 a.m. in headlines at the bottom of the hour, they give him 30 seconds and Joe throws a comment or two.

Update 2: Does anyone remember the advice that Joe Scarborough & company gave the GOP all during 2009 & 2010. It was the opposite of what they did. If the Republican’s took your advice they would be the minority party in the house now.

Update 3: Joe unexpectedly tears into Carl Bernstein over the “ignorant” business. Carl quotes republicans who didn’t like her but plays the phony geography card showing that he, not Palin is the ignorant one. What on earth happened? He is really going after him on the Palin ignorant and demagogue stuff. What did they inject him with over the break?

Update 4: Joe has actually compared the way Palin is treated by the MSM to the way Reagan was treated in 1980 by the MSM. Am I actually awake and seeing this? This is what you call a 180.
