My review of the 1939 film Drums along the Mohawk staring Henry Fonda and Claudette Colbert is available at Amazon.com here.

Ironically many of the faces you will see in this movie would shortly be associated with John Wayne as he had his own breakthrough film Stagecoach the same year.

This movie is shown frequently on cable, if you can’t find it at your local video store keep an eye on your cable network.

Sliverblaze: Amazon Review

My review of the 1937 film adaption of the Sherlock Holmes Mystery Silverblaze staring Arthur Wontner as Holmes is available at Amazon.com here.

This movie is available for viewing online at IMDB here but the quality is very low, if you would rather not purchase it but want to see it Netflix has a much better copy available.

You will note that the title is different than the review, that is because the US release took place AFTER the release of Basil Rathbone’s Hound of the Baskervilles. This was done to take advantage of a favorable box office.

My review of Adventures of Robin Hood season 1 staring Richard Greene as Robin Hood is available at Amazon.com here.

Two things worth noting. Both the DVD quality and the packaging of the Amazon.uk versions are considerably higher. If price (including shipping) is not an object you might want to consider the British versions if your DVD player will play them.

The second is a great Irony. As you may or may not know these episodes from the 50’s were written by blacklisted (communists-in-exile would be more accurate) writers such as Ring Laudner under pseudonyms. Whatever their political leanings they were excellent writers and the quality of the series showed this, however often they used the church, (at that time the Catholic Church) as their main “official” counterweight against the evils of the Sheriff and Prince John.

The subtle hints of propaganda concerning communism pretty much gets lost in the stories, (in fact one can safely say the left has been acting a whole lot more like the feudal lords who are for the most part the villains of the show.) but the affirmation of the Church as a source of good shines through in a way that the writers would likely regret today.

My Review of the Big Finish adventure Blue Forgotten Planet # 126 featuring Colin Baker as the 6th doctor and India Fisher in her final adventure as Charley Pollard is available at Amazon.com here.

This marks the end of the Incredible 10 year continuous run of Charley Pollard as the companion of the doctor in new adventures. This is the longest run of any character or Actor in any of the various series. From Storm Warning

to The Girl who never was she was in every 8th doctor adventure. Once she was paired with Colin Baker in the Condemned, for two years with only a single exception (Assassin in the Twilight) she was the companion for every 6th doctor in the series until this one.

Ironically if you are a big finish regular you saw that Blue Forgotten Planet was actually scheduled for adventure # 114 or so. The title was up but no details were there. This was because Charley was meant to have 3 adventures with the 6th Doctor and that would be it, but the response was so great and popular that Blue Forgotten Planet disappeared from the schedule and Charley traveled on.

Charley is actually going to return in the first 8th doctor companion chronicles later this year Solitare so we haven’t seen the last of India or Charley, but it’s been a great run and some great fun.
