Then again if the turns it down to the terrorists win?

Yourish thinks he won’t

And the truly frightening thing is: I’m betting Obama thinks he deserves it.

Lets see what the president says….I’ll liveblog his speech.

They keep stalling and stalling bringing him out. Maybe he will turn it down. If he does it will be the most presidential thing he has done yet.

Update:
Here he comes…

“This isn’t how I expected to wake up this morning.”

I guess not

“I don’t view it as a recognition of my own accomplishments”

Ya Think?

“This prize reflects the kind of world we want to build.”
And what kind is that?

“I will accept this award as a call to action.”

To do what?

Apparently this is a mandate on Climate Change and nuclear disarmament.

“We can’t accept a world where people are denied opportunity”

Are we going to see an international stimulus plan?

“This award must be shared with everyone who strives for justice and dignity.”

Well it should have been shared with SOMEONE!

I think this is a real screwtape moment concerning reality.

Yourish wins!

I crashed on the couch last night because the Sox game was on the west coast. When I woke up this morning and signed in AIM the headline was that President Obama had won the Nobel Peace Prize.

Being a normal and sane man I assumed I was still groggy or maybe still asleep and then turned on the TV.

Apparently not being George Bush counts for a lot. From what I’ve seen on Morning Joe even the White House seems a bit embarrassed.

I was always under the impression that you actually had to DO something to win the prize.

That makes three four US presidents. Teddy Rossevelt for his mediation in the Russian Japan war. Woodrow Wilson for the League of Nations, Jimmy Carter for Camp David and President Obama for… for… not being George Bush.

I guess we should be watching for international youtube videos of kids singing now.

I can’t think of anything that can illustrate the bankruptcy of the prize than this award. I’ve gotta run my kid to school but I’ll do some blog round up later.

Update: Forgot about Wilson. I still haven’t checked any other blogs but I can’t wait to do that.

Update 2: I must say this IS deserved. No US president since the Bush administration has not been more not George Bush than Barack Obama.

…apparently not so well:

In his address at the University of Notre Dame, Obama talked a good game about respecting conscience on abortion rights. He did the same thing when he met the Pope.
But that was all it was — talk.

The Obama Administration’s attack on Belmont Abbey College proves that.

Apparently the Catholic College decided that the “Catholic” part actually matters as they were unwilling to cover contraception, abortion, and voluntary sterilization all directly opposed to the college’s faith so of course we had a lawsuit and the results were interesting…

Belmont Abbey College was not discriminating against women. Unlike many “believers in name only” the college was adhering to the principles of its faith.

At first, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) found no evidence of gender discrimination by Belmont Abbey College… After a few weeks, the EEOC mysteriously reversed course and announced, in effect, that the college had better toe the Administration’s line, or else.

They are now demanding the school go against the very principles it exists to serve.

I presume they are going to fight it as far as they can, if they lose then there is only one choice that is acceptable in terms of faith and that is to simply drop all coverage divert the cost into the pay of the employees so they can purchase private insurance to cover what they wish.

But I’m over-reacting after all the state wouldn’t go after Catholics for obeying their faith would they?

So how did that work out Fr. Jenkins?

Of course, this does not mean we support all of his positions. The invitation to President Obama to be our Commencement speaker should not be taken as condoning or endorsing his positions on specific issues regarding the protection of human life, including abortion and embryonic stem cell research. Yet, we see his visit as a basis for further positive engagement.”

Maybe you should thank him.

You might not see as much of him at lgf but Zombie is still doing the work that used to earn him praise and links by Charles. He is an admirer of Kevin Jennings work but he does some digging and doesn’t like what he sees concerning his praise of Harry Hay:

How could you not know any of this? What were you thinking when you praised Hay in public? Aren’t you by your own self-description an expert in the history of the gay rights movement? How else would you know the obscure details of Harry Hay’s activist career, which you mentioned in your speech? I’m no expert myself, but Harry Hay’s proclivities were quite well-known, and the photos, links and quotes presented below were uncovered after a mere 30 minutes of searching.

Yes, I know that many mainstream media outlets showered praise on Harry Hay in their obituaries about him when he died in 2002. And nary a mention of his NAMBLA activities was made at the time. But as a prominent gay rights activist yourself, and as a fan of Harry Hay’s early activism, weren’t you of all people the kind of person who should have known of Harry Hay’s unsavory later affiliations? Just because his NAMBLA connection was swept under the rug for a mainstream audience, doesn’t mean it would stay hidden forever.

He lays out the links between Hay and NAMBLA pretty clearly and begs him to nip this in the bud while he can.

(Imagine the headlines if you don’t extinguish this scandal ASAP: Obama appoints activist “inspired” by NAMBLA supporter to protect the nation’s children. Do you really want to see that?)

Well you won’t see headlines with the MSM but it’s only a matter of time before Beck gets his scalp, and apparently from the post’s update it appears that no amount of denial is going to change facts.

As Zombie concludes that he did know about Hay’s background the question becomes does Zombie think Jennings should resign or wait till his scalp is eventually claimed by Fox or Beck or someone else?

It’s clear that he things highly of Jennings previous work but feet of clay are feet of clay and the question is still on the floor. Is the Obama administration passing these guys because they didn’t vett them or because they did and agreed with them?
