You know in the middle of a recession where people a struggling to find work of any kind this story is extraordinary.

The union is seeking a three-year contract that would increase its members’ share of health insurance premiums from 13 percent to 20 percent by the end of the deal. It is also seeking wage increases totaling 9.5 percent.

RTA Transit officials said they can offer only a one-year deal because they don’t know what money will be available beyond that. They have also said that an agreement is not possible because the union refused to agree to a 25 percent share of health insurance premiums.

The possibility of a strike alarmed WRTA patrons, who expressed concern about how they were going to get about if the transportation system ground to a halt.

Right now both sides are in the 2nd day of a 15 day “cooling off” period but as Sam Rosario host of the show following mine on WCRN pointed out the politicians have had no word to say about a Union asking for a 9.5% Payraise during the worst economic times in 80 years?

Perhaps Jim McGovern could be asked but then again how many democrats in this state owe their elections to the Union activist vote efforts on election day?

Meanwhile the Friends of Obama are also getting their reward.

Now comes word that Torquemada HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius has approved a whopping 111 waivers for businesses of all sizes, along with more unions and other providers of health insurance. The escapees include employers of many low-wage and part-time workers whose health insurance plans would otherwise be dropped, including Darden Restaurants — the parent company of the Olive Garden and Red Lobster and other chains, which employ some 34,000 people.

If you were on the right side of the debate apparently you get the right side of the administration you get what you need:

The issue, Dear Friends, is not the waivers. Or Obamacare itself.

The issue, Dear Friends, is that Dear Leader decides who gets a waiver.

Your rights no longer are endowed by your Creator.

Make everything illegal (okay, bit of an overstatement, but you get the point) and then require people to ask for permission. It’s about control, and from where power emanates.

I guess if you support the left all things are possible and nothing is objectionable.

5 Billion will get you 8000

Well 8,011 to be precise:

255 million: The number of Americans with existing health insurance coverage.

20 million: The number of Americans without any health coverage at all due to economic circumstances.

375,000: The number of Americans with pre-existing conditions HHS said would apply for coverage in the first year of ObamaCare, one of the main political arguments for its implementation.

8,011: The number that actually did.

So a 5 Billion dollar program that was a fierce moral imperative so urgent that it required congress to pass a program that the American People didn’t want covers 8,011 people?

Classical values opines:

To put this failure in perspective, consider the resources necessary for the federal government and the 27 states who offered their own policies to implement this measure. It’s very likely taxpayers have actually paid more for administration than enrollees have received in benefits.

Likely, LIKELY? Of course it is likely.

Lets put it another way. There are according to Wikipedia 351 cities and towns in Massachusetts., if you divide 8011 by 50 you get 160 people per state. So we have passed this to cover just over one person in every other town in Massachusetts.

Or even better there according to National Atlas.gov there are 35,000 cities and towns including the virgin islands and Puerto Rico or on Google answers they use census data to count 18,443. So that is less that one person in every other town or every 4th town depending on how they are counted.

Right now my family is on COBRA. The full price of the family plan costs $1500 with dental per month. Rather than a government program costing $624,141.80 PER PERSON COVERED. If say every other person in Fitchburg kicked in a dime in a bucket once a month it would pay for a family plan for that one guy with enough left over to get a head start on the next month.

Instead we get a government boondoggle that our children’s children will be paying for.

You wanted change with Obama? You got it!

As he is won’t to do, Glenn Reynolds notes sales on Amazon and mentioned that the Andy Griffith show is discounted. To nobody’s surprise Glenn’s readers who have noticed Griffith’s shilling for Obamacare have been unimpressed.

Reader Jim Breed writes: “Does the Andy Griffith series have the episode where Andy approves as Dr. Obama gives Aunt Bea the blue pill?” Heh.

And reader Paul Beardsleee writes: “I always enjoy seeing your pointers to Amazon deals. I think I’ll pass on the Andy Griffith Show boxed set. Seeing ‘Sheriff Taylor’ shill for Obamacare makes me wonder whether Barney Fife needs to go all Serpico on his boss.”

Griffith’s fame comes from a time when there was less separation from the public image and the private beliefs of actors. Griffith make a famous video in favor of then candidate Obama with Henry Winkler and Ron Howard before the election and he donated his time to support Obamacare on the air.

Now the Andy Griffith was a pretty good show and at his age (84) I suspect he isn’t all that much worried about the bit of residuals those sales will bring, but I’ll wager a few other members of the cast and their descendents might not be so happy.

Update: Literally a bad link, was linked to the picture of a link, fixed, Thanks Dave

Longtime readers know about the Vatican investigation of North American Nuns and we’ve written about other “interesting” Nuns here and here. My opinion on the matter is still reflected by this paragraph:

Sr. Keehan (and other dissenting nuns) will do what she wants and the left, the White House and the media will fawn on them and they will be celebrated for the rest of their lives…

…after that they’re on their own.

That’s pretty much it.
