A month of fasting and reflective prayer for Muslims.
Reflective prayer is a good thing there is a lot that needs reflecting on in life. In the Catholic Church when you think of reflective prayer you think Monks. (At least I do). But reflective prayer should be an important part of the regular prayer life.
The examination of conscience (and yes I’m guilty of skipping it too) is a good example of reflective prayer There are a lot long versions out there. It can be daunting so start small. Take a single piece of it a day, and go with it.
The hardest thing about it of course is that when we are aware of our sins. It is so much easier to not consider our sins. If we do and are aware of them, we are obliged to do something about it. It’s something I struggle with but the struggle is certainly a step up from ignoring it but a big step below from actually doing it.
This is also where praying for each other makes a difference by supporting each other in our prayer life we give a hand to the person below us and accept a hand from the person above so we can all get to the same goal.
When we participate in reflective prayer, as a Catholic, Protestant, Jew or Muslim we ask God to take us closer to the person we ought to be.
Let us pray that our Islamic brothers take advantage of this month of prayer, fasting and reflection to become the people that God wants them to be. Don’t discount the power of prayer and fasting (Matt 17;21).
And yes I am very much aware of the truth of this post at Moonbattery and elsewhere. (Memeorandum thread here.) None of it changes the Christian obligation to pray for our Islamic brothers and, nor the transformative power of prayer on the soul.

You choose to enter a military academy knowing what the rule was and now you’ve decided that you are going out, or should I say coming out in style.
While at the academy, I have made a deliberate effort to develop myself academically, physically, and militarily, but in terms of holistic personal growth I have reached a plateau. I am unwilling to suppress an entire portion of my identity any longer because it has taken a significant personal, mental, and social toll on me and detrimentally affected my professional development.
Was Yale not good enough for you before or did you need a cause celeb to make sure you got in young lady?
If you wanted to serve the public could you not have entered a police academy after college? #9 in your class makes it even worse, it means that you should have known better.
As I’ve said before I’m for whatever makes the military stronger so on the underlying issue I don’t really care one way or the other as long as you can show that one way or the other is a net gain for the service, but this issue has been in play your entire life don’t start whining that you don’t want to play by the rules.
Go to Yale, I’m sure you’ll do well. Have a great life, but don’t go crying to the world because the military continues to follow the orders given by a democratic president and passed by a democratic congress and still maintained by another democratic congress. A military particularly one subordinate to civilian control, follows orders If you can’t follow lawful orders then do something else.
Then again I might be a little hard on you, you’re just a kid and was likely very full of yourself. If you thought you could hack it but can’t, hey it happens. I’ll pray for you and encourage others to do the same.

Raheel Raza and Tarek Fatah see what others try to ignore

Rush Limbaugh has called the ground zero mosque “planting the flag of victory“. It has been suggested that to oppose the mosque is an act of bigotry. CNN’s Fareed Zakaria returned an award from the ADL for opposing it saying in part:
That is why I was stunned at your decision to publicly side with those urging the relocation of the planned Islamic center in lower Manhattan. You are choosing to use your immense prestige to take a side that is utterly opposed to the animating purpose of your organization. Your own statements subsequently, asserting that we must honor the feelings of victims even if irrational or bigoted, made matters worse.
Today at the Ottawa Citizen. Raheel Raza and Tarek Fatah of the Muslim Canadian Congress put the lie to Zakaria’s nonsense.
New York currently boasts at least 30 mosques so it’s not as if there is pressing need to find space for worshippers. The fact we Muslims know the idea behind the Ground Zero mosque is meant to be a deliberate provocation to thumb our noses at the infidel. The proposal has been made in bad faith and in Islamic parlance, such an act is referred to as “Fitna,” meaning “mischief-making” that is clearly forbidden in the Koran.
The Koran commands Muslims to, “Be considerate when you debate with the People of the Book” – i.e., Jews and Christians. Building an exclusive place of worship for Muslims at the place where Muslims killed thousands of New Yorkers is not being considerate or sensitive, it is undoubtedly an act of “fitna”
At least 30 mosques in NY? The horror, how will the community function without one more at ground zero? The local mosque in Fitchburg gets the whole “Be considerate” message. The people who are putting up the Ground Zero mosque reject it.
Worse than the builders rejection is the well traveled Zakaria inability to see what is in front of him. It takes a lot of education to be as ignorant as Zakaria is being. Of course he could be in denial, or just cowardly? Or maybe he and NY is operating under a double standard.
It goes without saying that everyone here should be prayed for.
