Q: How transparent was the betrayal of the pro life cause by Bart “I’m a faithful Catholic, Really!” Stupak?

When Kathleen Parker isn’t willing to spin for you the game is over:

Stupak, too, knew that the executive order was merely political cover for him and his pro-life colleagues. He knew it because several members of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops explained it to him, according to sources. The only way to prevent public funding for abortion was for his amendment to be added to the Senate bill.

Clearly, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the president didn’t want that. What they did want was the abortion funding that the Senate bill allowed.

Thus, the health care bill passed because of a mutually understood deception — a pretense masquerading as virtue. No wonder Stupak locked his doors and turned off his phones Sunday, according to several pro-life lobbyists who camped outside his office.

Maybe when he’s done in congress he can move to Fitchburg and run for the City Counsel.

Q: What does the homosexual lobby and Bart Stupak have in common?

The idea that Stupak is going to get what he expects from the Obama administration and that said order will not be modified or trashed is really foolish. Ask the gay lobby how loyal this president is.

Stupak apparently never remembered the words of Jim Geraghty: All Barack Obama Statements Come With an Expiration Date… ALL of them.

What does this mean? Well here are some predictions:

Watch Nancy Pelosi release several “Fishbait” democrats to make this vote closer. She will also release at least one “Pro Abortion” congressman on the other side for appearance sake.

The only story on the networks tomorrow will be the brilliant victory of the president. This more than anything else was the goal of pushing this.

One of the biggest reasons for Scott Brown’s victory was the desire to stop this healthcare bill. This vote may change the math in Massachusetts even further. It is a middle finger to the voters of the state.

Will this convince Anh Cao to flip as well? Could be.

The very fact that this pseudo deal was advanced suggests that the worm is turning on the Abortion issue and in a few decades the pro life side is going to win the demographic and the political battle.

Unless the liberal base understands that the president is lying through his teeth to Stupak this is going to infuriate them.

The republicans are not only going to win the house this year, I would not be surprised to see them win the Senate too.

…finally I’m sorry to depress everyone but let me make something perfectly clear…

This will not be repealed. Not after the 2010 election nor after a republican victory in 2012. This is not going to be done. It had to be stopped now.

Update: Saw the text of the order. I may have to revise my opinion of Stupak from stupid to dishonest.

Update 2: I didn’t see this post at gateway before, yup this is certainly damning, in more than one way.

Here is the video, Catholic my ***

What part of “intrinsic evil” do you not understand?

Update 3: Bart Stupak’s opponent Dan Benishek has been given the political gift of his life and I suspect will have the best fund-raising day he will ever see today.

Update 4: It goes without saying that as Christians we are obliged to pray for Bart Stupak, we aren’t obliged to vote for him but this is part of the job description of Christianity.

Question: DaTechGuy, why aren’t you talking about the various whip counts.

All of the whip counts are guesses, they have been all over the map. You have a better chance of getting your entire bracket correct in March Madness than to get an accurate whip count.

I still don’t think it is going to pass. Until the vote actually takes place that can’t be confirmed, so I’m not going to play guessing games with numbers. However I will point to Robert Stacy McCain’s American spectator article comparing this push to the end of Animal House:

Even then, Scott Brown was driving his Dodge truck through the snow en route to the Jan. 19 Senate victory that most political observers at the time believed was the final death-blow to this unpopular legislation. Could there be a more decisive electoral verdict than for a Republican to be elected in liberal Massachusetts on a promise to stop the health-care bill?

Well, the voters be damned.

He concludes thusly:

At this point, however, the arguments for passage resemble another Animal House scene, with Obama in the role of Otter when he announces, “I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody’s part.” It remains to be seen whether House Democrats will supply Bluto’s famous answer: “We’re just the guys to do it.”

It’s an amazing thing to watch people walk off a cliff while insisting that they will fall up.

Who knew that Sen Blutarski was still in Congress?

Q: Why did that package turn up now of all times?

I spent yesterday with My son and some Friends at Funspot in NH, the worlds largest Arcade. When I got home late last night this was waiting for me from Mike’s Comics.

Of COURSE it comes now.

Unless I’m very mistaken that package contains the a boxed set of the new audio adventures of a certain scarf wearing alien that I pre-ordered in July of last year.

The BBC has apparently decided that since I’ve given up a certain Science Fiction series first broadcast by the BBC the year I was born for Lent that naturally it is the perfect time to release the item in the US.

So that package gets to remain unopened with a paperback from Amazon Vine till Easter Sunday on April 4th. (Yes I know officially Lent ends on Holy Thursday for the Easter Triduum but that feels like cheating to me.)

Rest assured after that date they will be listened to rated and reviewed here and on Amazon. All I can say is they’d better not stink!

Oh and if you are a new reader since CPAC (Which began on Ash Wednesday the start of Lent) and you have no idea what I’m talking about despite the hints click here.
