Ga-4 Forum: Statement of Newsmakers live Journal

I received the following written statement from the Newsmakers live Journal. As I consider it a reply to my e-mail I include it in full along with my comments in bold italic:

NEWSMAKERS Live/Journal Unfairly Assailed

It has come to our attention that a disgruntled, long-shot Republican candidate for the 4th District Congressional seat is unfairly disparaging tonight’s NEWSMAKERS Live political forum and the credibility of its ownership team by falsely reporting and blogging that she has been excluded from the event because of her race! This is interesting, she is considered the front runner for the republican nomination yet she is considered a “longshot”. Yet Mr. Ruth (who I like) is apparently not a long shot.

Nothing could be further from the truth. There was never any effort to make this a “black only” affair, as has been alleged by the candidate and her supporters. This forum was conceived and set in motion back in April based on Congressman Johnson’s schedule Interestingly enough congressman Johnson’s office informed me personally that he was not attending due to “scheduling conflicts” and the candidates we were then aware of in the race. It took me all of two minutes to find this list of ALL Ga candidates for office, how is it I could do this and they could not? The candidate in question was not on our radar screen at the time, and has been alarmingly indignant and combative when we explained that the lineup was set for tonight, but that another Republicans-only forum is planned for the very near future.If there is a republican only forum later, why is Mr. Ruth invited for tonight?

Despite numerous conversations, and an invitation to attend tonight’s event and be recognized, the caustic candidate continues to condemn and berate Newsmakers Live/Journal in what appears to be a publicity ploy designed to garner her needed name recognition. We lament this political gamesmanship. Let’s talk name recognition. when I was in GA-4 only one voter I talked to even remembered Connie Stokes name, yet she is on the program

In the past candidates have underestimated NEWSMAKERS reach and political impact, much to their chagrin.I would think that wanting to participate in the program is an acknowledgment of your reach and impact Some choose not to show up and answer our piercing and pertinent questions, while others – in a futile effort to enhance their candidacy — falsely accuse us of wrongdoing or racism in our journalistic efforts to enlighten the African American community. It would seem to me if you want to enlighten the African American community on the candidates it would have been normal to include the Hispanic and White candidates in the race

I have sent the following e-mail in reply:

Hello:

Thank you for your statement I have a few questions concerning it:

Your statement says that the event was set in motion based on the congressman’s schedule. I talked to the congressman’s office today and they informed me they would not be able to attend due to scheduling conflicts. This seems to contradict your statement concerning the arrangements.

Are you aware that the congressman’s office states he will not be attending tonight?

Were you aware of the “scheduling conflict” that precludes his attendance and if so when? If the forum was arranged based on the congressman’s schedule why was it not re-scheduled?

Since Ms. Carter is considered the republican frontrunner how is she a “longshot” candidate and Cory Ruth not?

How do you define a “longshot” candidate?

How do you reconcile your claim to: “a long reach and political influence” yet claim you claim all Hispanic and white candidates in the Ga-4 race were “not on your radar screen”?

I was able to find a complete list of all candidates in races in Georgia on this web site in under 2 minutes of searching the web as a news organization how did you establish who was running and who was not?

Is it true or false that Ms. Carter was told when she inquired about the forum that she could participate and then was told she could not. If so why was this the case?

Please explain how a forum that excludes all white and Hispanic candidates not to mention the sitting congressman will enlighten the African American community will more than a forum that includes all candidates?

As they were kind enough to take my call and return my e-mail I will not pass judgement myself but I ask my readers:

If the forum in question was all white and the organizers of an organization called NEWSMAKERS LIVE excluded all black and Hispanic candidates claiming they were “not on their radar screen” would you believe them?

Oh give me a break Humanitarians?

Ok, Morning Joe calls them “humanitarians”

They have the Israeli minster of public affairs and are pressing him he is not giving one inch and of course keeps referring to the videotape.

I was talking to A friend of mine was saying yesterday that Israel has learned their PR lesson. By filming everything when the Arab side speaks with hyperbole and exaggeration they are able to show actual video of what happened. The video of this is devastating to the attempts to demonize Israel.

This undercuts the “humanitarian” argument of their foes. Will it convince governments or groups that are out for the destruction of Israel? Of course not, it never will, but it will cause individuals who actually watch the video to think.

And as for Gene Robinson and Joe lets do a simple experiment to answer your question about disproportional response: I’ll hand you each a pistol we’ll get 5 guys to beat you with pipes and broomsticks and lets see how long it takes you to ask permission to shoot back.

That has been ignored:

Folks, what the hell is so much less delicate about the Gulf of Mexico than ANWR, where we could drill much more safely than in the Gulf? Nothing—that’s what. The ecosystems in the Gulf are far more vulnerable than those in ANWR—as are the local economies that depend on them. And the practices that would be required to produce oil in Alaska—or in shallower water off of California, for that matter—are much safer than those we used to place the Gulf at risk.

Because after all we much rather have people drilling in the gulf than up in the arctic.

I must have taken a stupid pill a few days ago…

…because it only just hit me after a good nights sleep why I got that reaction a few days ago when the tea party came up: They believe the vile calumny that they have been told from the day of the passage of the health care bill.

When I offered a reward of $100,000 to be donated to the United Negro College Fund if anyone produced video and audio evidence that this occurred, I was accused of a publicity stunt (because everyone knows that the best way to get publicity in America is to accuse a civil rights icon of lying about racism). Rep. Carson himself suggested that my challenge was “a veiled attempt to justify actions that are simply unjustifiable.” Get it? He calls protesters racist and if you ask him to prove it, you’re a racist, too.

Needless to say, no one has claimed the $100,000.

As you can see Andrew Breitbart has provided 100,000 reasons why it is false, but to those reading from Georgia I want to put it this way. Today cameras are everywhere, if a person spills coffee on himself in Germany it can be on youtube within seconds.

Ask yourself honestly, if a crowd of congressmen and women made a public walk with cameras and recording devices everywhere don’t you think at least ONE of them would have picked up the sound of people shouting racial epithets? And don’t you think that the media would have LOVED to provide that tape? Mr. Breitbart again:

But, I have taken my search one step further. I’ve asked some of the contributors to Big Government to also actively search for video. We have spent the last three weeks searching for any evidence that might support the allegations, without any help from the accusers. The primary accuser, Congressman Carson, who audaciously claimed the crowd screamed the “N-word fifteen times,” would not return our call. So we have gone part way to try and piece together the events of March 20.

Not only is the audio devoid of any racial slur, but the scene at Cannon clearly shows the congressmen coming down the steps completely unobstructed, and with a clear path to the Capitol. And, when we juxtapose the audio accusation Rep.Carson made moments after the alleged event occurred with actual video footage of the moment Rep. Carson claims he first heard the racial slur, it is as plain as day that Congressman Carson was not isolated by a mob and facing a racist throng that could conceivably hurl rocks at him.

I understand the need to protect and defend people you respect and to take them at their word but consider this:

I was held in contempt and found “guilty” of racism because a group of ladies choose to believe that comfortable lie, perhaps they had heard the other side, perhaps not. It is not to the same degree but isn’t that the same thing that a segregated jury might have done say 60 years ago disbelieving a whole group of people for the sake the reputation of people they liked?

If you wonder why the media is held it contempt by many bloggers that is why. Larry O’Connor put it best:

Just yesterday, the AP referred to Ft. Hood terrorist Malik Nadal Hasan as a “suspect.” Apparently, Hasan is afforded the right to be innocent until proven guilty, but tea party protestors are not.

All of this is old news to anyone who reads a blog, but it wasn’t old news for me this week.
