Coffee Party, Air America Redux

I’m sure there are more than a few tea party types who are a tad annoyed at the NYT and Washington Post coverage of the “Coffee parties”

it took the two biggest papers in America less than a week after the new site started posting in earnest to catch lefty grassroots Coffee Party fee-vah. (Their Facebook page has been up since last month.) Fancy that.

The actual Times story is here, I would suggest that we Tea Party types should be laughing very hard.

First of all, we are supposed to be upset that the New York Times and the Washington Post treat liberals differently than conservatives? They have been doing it forever. I’m certainly not going to get my knickers in an uproar over that. I’ll mention that is it media bias but all I can do is smile.

Because I remember when they gave that same coverage to Air America rollout. Every network, every morning show, every talk show it was painted as the alternative etc etc etc.

The only result of this is going to be a greater marginalization of the left wing media. It is very easy to run into someone who has attended a tea party. They are your neighbors.

When you are drawing 15 people and it is a “better turnout than expected” you are basically a modern version of the people’s front of Judea.

When they paint it as something it is not people will know it, they are much more experienced in this matter. The only way these guys are going to draw folks are to pay them.

It took less than a decade for it to fall apart. It will be fun watch that happen again.

Update: Weird and wonderful developments are happening.

Update 2: Glenn notices the Air America reference in Bill Jacobson’s comments a mere 4 hours after I made it the subject of my post. Apparently like Miss Attila and Stacy I am instalance deficient Then again I’ve already had more instalances this year then I did all of last year. And that’s still two instalances more than a certain little green blogger has managed since Aug 09.

Did I read that right?

The US actually raising the issue of Hezbollah with Syria?

The U.S. administration has asked Syrian President Bashar Assad to immediately stop transferring arms to Hezbollah. American officials made the request during a meeting Friday with the Syrian ambassador to Washington.

Of course Syria being Syria they meeting was an exercise in Who moi?

Haaretz has learned that Burns’ visit to Damascus ended unsatisfactorily for the U.S. administration. During Burns’ meeting with Assad, the Syrian leader denied all American claims that his regime was providing military aid to terrorists in Iraq, or to Hezbollah and Palestinian terror groups.

Assad essentially told Burns that he had no idea what the American was talking about.

The question naturally becomes what will the US do to advance the desire to stop this nonsense. Will this be enough to push the Obama administration to do the right thing by Israel?

Israel’s biggest advantage in this matter is that the rose colored glasses that many on the left in general and the administration in particular wear concerning Israel’s foes tend to break in actual contact with the reality of their intransigence.

To wit:

Freelance journalist Paul Martin has been held in Gaza since Feb. 14, the first foreigner to be arrested since Hamas seized control of the territory in 2007. Martin’s case is being closely watched by international organizations with staff in Gaza as a gauge of how the Hamas government will deal with foreigners.

As Meryl Yourish says:

If the Israelis were holding him, there’d be daily headlines

Too true.

I certainly have no objection to Rule 5 and the ladies therein. I rarely participate in it myself but I certainly don’t have a problem with anyone having fun with it, nor do I object to it as a source of hits to the blog who join in, but Smitty today mentioned something that is worth bringing up…

When talking about the direction that rule 5 has gone he mentioned something: The simple appreciation of loveliness.

To that end let me direct you to this photo:

Non-Random CPAC photo of the day

You will not that the lady therein is not wearing anything revealing, her hair is not made up, her clothing is not designer and her hat is not a fedora (ok that last part isn’t really important).

But let me tell you something, this is a good face, this is a lovely face, it is what I call a 20/40 year face, it is the type of face that is going to age very well. I’ll wager that 20 years ago that face was just as cute as it is now or cuter and in 20 more years it will still be a pleasure to look at.

Because of our culture this type of face and woman is under appreciated. That is a shame. Any man worth his salt would be proud to stand next to a woman with a face like that. I haven’t met the gentleman who wakes up next to this face, but he is a lucky man.

So per Smitty statement let me suggest that although it might not be considered a rule 5 post. I think given the choice I’d rather be sitting next to this person than any of the rule 5 choices offered today.

Oh and if you are wondering why I didn’t use a picture of my wife for this post although she fits the 20/40 rule it to a T: She hates compliments of that nature from me, especially when made publicly. (But feel free to check out this link to see what I mean.)

Update: No reason to blush, as they said in the old TV show The Guns of Will Sonnett: “No Brag Just fact.”

Hey suddenly the Patriot act doesn’t looks so bad…

Let’s take the way back machine to December of 2008 in the first few weeks of this blog…

You can take this to the bank: Any successful attack on American soil during an Obama administration is going to be wholly owned by not only that administration but the Democratic party.

It won’t matter how diligent or responsible the administration has been. It won’t matter that they acted in good faith which any fair minded person must assume. It won’t matter if like Hornblower in Hornblower during the Crisis members of the current administration and people who understand how hard it is to be right every time rush to their defense. The public will remember who succeeded in protecting the country and who failed particularly if a major population center is successfully hit.

This was written in reference to trials (and lo and behold they will not take place) but they work equally well with this:

That brings us to the main point. Republicans have mostly supported this bill because they believe it a necessary tool for counterintelligence and counterterrorism. Democrats mainly opposed it as a way to rally political opposition to Bush and the Republicans. Now that they’re in charge and responsible for preventing attacks, that Patriot Act looks pretty darned good to most of them.

There is nothing like actually having responsibility to make people choose to act, well responsible, after all this isn’t just a question of a few dollars for pals, this is a question of life and death..
