A week or so ago I wrote this concerning Stacy McCain’s Zeigest posts:

While the rest of us have been talking about the media Stacy McCain has been doing something interesting. Actually covering a possible motive and inspiration for the shooting in Arizona:

Today I’m looking at Bryon’s York’s latest and lo and behold guess what the topic is?

At a time when Loughner was increasingly unable to control his own mind, he apparently welcomed “Zeitgeist’s” message that there were sinister forces out there trying to control it for him. The meaning of “Zeitgeist’s” role in the Tucson violence is not that Loughner’s motive was political. It’s that the movie’s insane incoherence proved to be an awful stimulant for one dangerously incoherent mind.

When this eventually becomes the story of the shooting, lets not forget who was there before Byron, Before Rush and who kept on this story after ABC dropped it.

This is called “reporting”.

…in Boston.

I had absolutely no idea that this moment would become life changing.

I was before that moment a guy who was blogging a bit while looking for a tech support gig, finding interviews few and far between. I had not been on an Airplane in 17 years, had never been to DC, Virginia or Georgia and had not really met any of my fellow bloggers.

By the end of one week I was a credentialed Blogger at the Scott Brown Victory party. Over the course of the year i’ve been to CPAC, Started writing for Examiner.com, Covered tax day rallies in Boston and DC, Ridden on the Tea Party express, Covered a congressional race in Georgia, attended Blogcon, Stopped by the Black Family reunion, Interviewed Renne Ellmers who would eventually become Congresswomen Ellmers, Covered the 9/11 & 9/12 rallies in DC, Watched the production of the Dancing Barney Frank Video, Went on a road trip through 5 states, Interviewed Ann Marie Buerkle (now congresswoman Buerkle) , Covered congressional debates and attended victory parties and now host my radio show DaTechGuy on DaRadio.

This has in short been one of the most eventful and interesting years I have lived.

But all of it started with A tip jar request, an offer to put Stacy up for a week (since I didn’t have the cash to spare) and a drive to Boston and the rest is history.

Pay no attention to Stacy McCain and the Zeitgeist

While the rest of us have been talking about the media Stacy McCain has been doing something interesting. Actually covering a possible motive and inspiration for the shooting in Arizona:

Loughner’s favorites included little-known conspiracy theory documentaries such as “Zeitgeist” and “Loose Change” as well as bigger studio productions with cult followings and themes of brainwashing, science fiction and altered states of consciousness,

Stacy has been all over this angle that has been largely ignored. Today he linked to the movie itself

ABC quoted the friend of Loughner concerning this obsession and was quickly threatened with legal action. Stacy continues:

Yeah, “considering legal action” is one of those wonderful phrases, isn’t it? There are entire blogs devoted to denouncing the Zeitgeist Movement/Venus Project as a cult or a scam or some combination of both, and yet the director is “considering legal action” because TV networks interviewed a friend who said Loughner was into watching Zeitgeist.

And it’s all because he’s challenging the “status quo” of the “Social System” which, of course, the real villain. Also, Peter Joseph/Merola wants you to know that he is a persecuted humanitarian. So if you criticize him, you’re just like those people who called Martin Luther King a commie.

Eventually there will be a trial and when it happens Stacy’s stories are going to be very linkable. Let the record show he was first.

The Ultimate in counter programing

While the rest of us on the right pick apart Colman McCarthy over this Washington Post column Robert Stacy McCain decides in a brilliant bit of counter programing to tackle the issue that has sadly been ignored, namely the best tactics to ahem; stimulate the economy of the movie industry:

The question of what it takes nowadays to get people to go to the multiplex and pay $9 to see a movie they can catch a few months later on HBO or Netflix is a perplexing question for Hollywood. But when a chick says to her boyfriend, “Hey, you want to go see a ballet movie?” it’s kinda helpful if she can follow that up with, “You know, the one with the Natalie Portman lesbian scene.”

He then follows up 20 paragraphs on the cultural history of the “lesbian scene” in print and film including this gem:

It would be a worthwhile project for some “cultural studies” grad student to go through the 1971-79 Penthouse archives and count how many girl-on-girl pictorials they published. And you could probably get a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities to do that research.

The irony of course being that you likely could get a grant from the NEH for such research and this is precisely the type of scholarship that our Mr. McCarthy would prefer our kids in college study as opposed to ROTC and the like.

This is usually the hit starved season for bloggers but Stacy knows that the phrase “natalie portman lesbian scene” will generate hits for years to come in search engines not yet invented to shore up his slow days. Why comment on the news of the day when you can make a long-term investment that will guarantee you hits and page views forever?
