A quick comment concerning the “Visor” business…

There are times when you want to just wear a visor but aren’t out to make a statement. I have a instinctive dislike for keeping political stickers on cars etc forever. I still see people with their 01-20-09 anti-Bush stickers (and I don’t like the replacement 1-20-13 stickers either, I think they are childish.)

T-Shirts are different since they are, well T-Shirts, but when the election season is done i don’t want to wallow in the memorbelia. As a winner you don’t want to gloat, and as a loser you don’t want to whine.

If you are at a political event that is different but outside of it. It’s just not classy.

If the left wants to push this business with Palin, by all means they should do so. It will not convince anyone but the choir.

Freedom means having the right to be wrong, and the right to make a fool out of one’s self.

Did you notice what was missing from MSNBC’s hit on Palin this morning?

I’ve always liked Chris Hitchens even though he is seriously embedded with Palin Derangement syndrome and it was because of that syndrome that he made it on the last segment on MSNBC’s Morning Joe today.

In between talking sense on the war (which he always does) and pointing out that Joe Biden insulted Afghanistan with his “Good luck in your senior year” crack; (BIG NEWS) he backed up Eugene Robinson on his Palin Hit today and derided and insulted the governor so strongly that his old friends on the left might be tempted to have him back. Andrea Mitchell agreed but nobody can throw an insult like Chris Hitchens can, his insults are almost high art.

Somehow nobody at that MSNBC table mentioned climategate as a probable cause for any shift:

The president’s decision to attend the international climate conference in Copenhagen needs to be reconsidered in light of the unfolding Climategate scandal.

That is the first line in her Facebook post. Let’s look at the first line of her post op-ed

With the publication of damaging e-mails from a climate research center in Britain, the radical environmental movement appears to face a tipping point.

This point never made it to the table. For MSNBC Climategate doesn’t exist unlike say Glenn Reynolds who this morning had 6 posts on the subject between 7:50 & 8:45 this morning.

Morning Joe is the best MSNBC has, and Joe and Mika are the fairest people on that entire network, yet one blogger in Tennessee sees the elephant in the room that they can’t.

If they aren’t embarrassed then that is only because they have lost the capability to be so.

…but don’t call them death panels

When Sarah Palin referred to death panels she was called a liar, or ignored and is still hit for it, even as the section was pulled.

When examples from England’s NIS of brought up we were told that is had nothing to do with the US.

When the mammograms recommendations came out we were told that it isn’t an example of how Government health care would work.

We were told all these things, but there is one important thing about reality, it exists whether or not you want to acknowledge it:

New York used to screen women of all ages, but this year the budget crunch has forced them to focus on those considered at highest risk and exclude women under 50. “It’s a scary thought. It really is,” said LaBarge, who fears she’s at a higher risk because her grandmother died of breast cancer.

Well that is just one state that is on the brink, it’s not like a bunch of states are doing it…oh wait:

At least 14 states cut budgets for free cancer screenings this year: Colorado, Montana, Illinois, Alabama, Minnesota, Connecticut, South Carolina, Utah, Missouri, Washington, Ohio, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Arkansas.

This story should be a whole lot bigger than it is.

Let me tell you something, if we as a society give the power of life and death to government bureaucrats, we better not be surprised when they will use it.

…it was a good post, but I left a comment pointing out two considerations:

#1. Sarah Palin is young. She doesn’t have to run in 2012. She will be a viable presidential candidate for the next 20 years.

#2. 3 years is a lifetime in the political world. There are a dozen things that can go right for the president and that same dozen things could go wrong for Sarah Palin.

Both of these considerations are valid but thinking on the subject two others have come to mind that deserve their own posts:

3. There are quite a few republicans who will also want that 2012 nomination, particularly if President Obama is as successful in the insuring 3 years as he has been in his first. They will consider it the chance of a lifetime and will pull out all the stops to get that nomination. Mitt Romney the (thankfully) former governor of my state of Massachusetts is one of them. He have few political core beliefs except victory and he has the experience of one failed campaign to help steer him right. The primary issue in 2012 is also going to play to his one legitimate strength and success as governor: Fiscal responsibility.

4. The Democratic (read Soros) money machine that helped get Obama elected is going to be spending a TON of money in the REPUBLICAN primaries. If at all possible they will run some kind of Palin look alike in terms of positions and will make sure said look alike is well financed and has at least one greatly exploitable skeleton in his or her closet. If they can’t find such a candidate then they will back whichever republican is less likely to either win or effect actual change.

In my opinion there are an awful lot of folks who have an awful lot to lose from a successful Palin candidacy, some of them are Republicans. These people are not going to just sit back and let their money and power go away.

If we Palin fans naively forget or ignore these facts, we will not only lose, but we will deserve to.
