Today I asked for the definition of “Christianist” among other things from our friends on the left after a post at a blog called: “Joe my God”.

No answer on that one yet but perhaps the answer can best be given from another post from the same site backed up by Americablog and a group called crew urging the president to avoid the “Shadowy” national prayer breakfast.

Now this is an event that has taken place for 57 years if Wikipedia is to be believed and has hosted such dangerous “Christianist” as Bono, Elizabeth Dole, Tony Blair and that dangerous Mother Teresa she of the “dark side of faith”.

Now there is a danger of me doing the same crazy uncle business that I accused Joe my God of doing, after I’ve never heard of CREW but I HAVE heard of Americablog.

The question are this: Have we have reached a point where an event that has taken place for half a century is now shadowy? Do mainline democrats object to the national prayer breakfast or not? What mainline democrats are willing to denounce it? Is Tim Kane head of the DNC willing to denounce it?

If not, then I’m likely dealing with a group of crazy uncles myself and I should ignore them.

One important point; this event is not to be confused with the National Catholic Prayer Breakfast

Haiti and the Mouse that Roared

Do you remember the movie The Mouse that Roared? It was about a country that decided that the best way to get itself into shape was to be taken over by the US after being defeated in “war” (unfortunately things get mucked for them as they accidentally win).

Apparently they haven’t much left in Haiti but they know reality when they see it

The needs are extraordinary, and the common refrain is that the Americans will provide.

“I want the Americans to take over the country. The Haitian government can’t do anything for us,” said Jean-Louis Geffrard, a laborer who lives under a tarp in the crowded square. “When we tell the government we’re hungry, the government says, ‘We’re hungry, too.’ ”

Code pink, International Answer, Hugo Chavez and the late Howard Zinn not withstanding people understand what America is and what it means. They haven’t read Eject-Eject-Eject but they know when they are starving and hungry and desperate who will help them and who exploits them. As C.S. Lewis said (and as I’ve quoted before)

The characteristic of Pains and Pleasures is that they are unmistakably real, and therefore, as far as they go, give the man who feels them a touchstone of reality. Thus if you had been trying to damn your man by the Romantic method—by making him a kind of Childe Harold or Werther submerged in self-pity for imaginary distresses—you would try to protect him at all costs from any real pain; because, of course, five minutes’ genuine toothache would reveal the romantic sorrows for the nonsense they were

Rhetoric doesn’t trump reality when you are starving.

Update: American Glob reminds us that the HuffPo should be on that list too.

Update 2: Add voodoo priests to the doubter list above.

After all if Jay Nordlinger can be so insulted what’s to stop him? And will his listeners be ready to believe? After all he is appearing at a teaparty and appearing for a Republican!

Then again a man who has faced down actual evil and repression is unlikely to be intimidated by the likes of a MSNBC host.

…then NOW has some trouble:

Women’s Rights groups, like NOW, commendably call out advertisers and networks for airing sexist and demeaning portrayals of women that lead to young women’s diminished self-esteem and acceptance of roles as mere sexed-up objects.

What a ridiculous situation they’re getting themselves into now with their protest of CBS airing a pro-life ad during the upcoming Super Bowl game. The ad will feature Heisman trophy winner Tim Tebow and his mom, and they’ll speak to the sanctity of life and the beautiful potential within every innocent child as Mrs. Tebow acknowledges her choice to give Tim life, despite less than ideal circumstances. Messages like this empower women! This speaks to the strength and commitment and nurturing spirit within women. The message says everything positive and nothing negative about the power of women – and life. Evidently, some women’s rights groups like NOW do not like that message.

On Morning Joe today, Barnicle, Scarborough and Mika all talked about the standard superbowl ad whose message is: “Drink our beer/use our product and you will get laid!” and asked why they don’t just buy their own.

Gateway is on it, but then again he always is.
