Donald Trump surprises me

By the look of things on MSNBC it looks like he blindsided the Miss California pageant people who were expecting something different. Looking at this article from yesterday they were practically salivating at what was to come. Look at yesterday’s press conference:

Does this look like a group of people preparing to lose?

Trump however pointed out that her position was the same as the president as did Miss California after him. The scolding of the media was classic.

It’s nice to know that I can be pleasantly surprised.

Rush points out that they have asked Miss California tougher questions on the issues than they have the president.

Update: The other McCain has pictures and likely a lot more hits than me:

Attaboy, Donald! Imagine that: A guy who thinks a beauty contest ought to be about. . . beauty.

Update 2: Added yesterday’s press conference and commentary will add today’s when I can find it.

Update 3: Can I Vomit right now? HAH! Rush is running with this big.

Update 4: The CNN video didn’t take so here is the link to Hotair that has it.

Update 5: Doug Powers:

I love how Trump used the “progressive” argument to justify his decision to those who claim to be progressives.

It’s actually more than that, the supporters of Gay Marriage have created the perfect spokesperson. It will be a decision they will regret for years.

Update 6: James notices that this controversy has brought at least two people together:

Note: Mom and Dad sat side by side at today’s press conference

Remember they had a very nasty divorce.

Meanwhile Across the Pond has a different view:

Should we be surprised that she doesn’t know what free speech means? That it doesn’t mean that you can say whatever you want wherever you want with no consequences?

Apparently not. She didn’t realize that when she gave an answer that the majority of people in her state, in her country and in the world would agree with, an answer that a mere 10 years ago would be considered the most normal thing in the world, she would be would be vilified attacked and derided by media elites.

But her opponents also didn’t realize that their speech would make her world famous and turn the winner of the Miss USA pageant into the 1919 Cincinnati Reds.

The port stands at your elbow; types something he thought he never would:

Well done, Donald Trump!

The Christian conservative agrees:

I’m not particularly a fan of Donald Trump, but he really shined in his decision to allow Carrie Prejean to retain her crown as Miss California.

It will be interesting to see where she is in a year.

Update 7: Perhaps the people who were so busy worrying about stopping Miss California might worry about the systematic slaughter of gays in Iraq instead? I’d say that was a bigger issue. I wonder if MSNBC and the CBS early show will give that issue the same attention they have given this one? Added R.S. McCain’s quote as well. And is anyone going to ask Mika’s question?

Update 8: Here are the Youtube videos:

and gateway pundit is unimpressed with the Huffpost folks but the most interesting comment is from Big Hollywood about why the president gets a pass:

“Obama. Gay marriage?”

“Robert, don’t be so naive. We all know Obama’s lying through his teeth.”

“About gay marriage?”

“That and being,” he claws quote marks in the air, “a good Christian. Listen, Obama’s a Christian like I’m a Hasid.”

I am floored.

“You’re saying that Democrats assume Obama is lying for political expediency?”

“To get elected, sure. Hey, welcome to the real world.”

I take a deep breath.

“So Cary Prejean is a big fat target—”

“Not fat, my friend, did you see that slamming body?”

“Okay, so she’s a slamming beautiful target because she’s a genuine Christian and sincerely opposes gay marriage whereas Obama gets a pass because, you assume, he’s a liar and an opportunist.”

“You got it.”

“This is okay with you?”

“He got elected didn’t he,

Pretty sad isn’t it?

Update 9: Welcome readers of the Other McCain. I would have greeted you earlier but this is Tuesday which means game night with my old pals from College and high School. Take a peek around. See Dick Cheney’s daughter kick ass outnumbered 3-1 on MSNBC. See both Israeli’s and Arabs upset with the pope. Learn what two generations can do to a republic, get reviews of Doctor Who audios. Get a sample of an entertaining book for conservatives and see how my wife is smarter than Nancy Pelosi.

Final update: The Anchoress gets the last word

7:00 a.m. Photos of Miss California in a hot swimsuit, this is a scandal?

7:01 a.m. Mika doesn’t get the satan thing, isn’t she a Catholic? If she is a Catholic that shouldn’t be weird at all. Tina Brown is one thing but Mika and Mike are both supposed to be Catholic. That earns the post the “War on God” post.

7:02 a.m. I understood what Steele was saying, if they can’t then they are not even trying.

7:04 a.m. She is right about the plastic surgery and nobody is asking it. Why not?

7:05 a.m. They shake their head because Palin called Miss California to offer support and they are making fun of it. Didn’t Palin go through the same?

7:05 a.m. They mention the Pope’s visit but not the walkout. I’d say that was news.

7:08 a.m. It may seem like Christmas now for the left now but Cheney is right and reality has the habit of rising to the surface. 2010 and 2012 is going to be very interesting.

7:10 a.m. Did these guys notices that Powell voted democratic last time?

7:11 a.m. Ok if you don’t think he is doing this for love of country what IS the reason.

7:22 a.m. Mika asks a solid question and Savanah refers to the memo’s as the “so called” torture memos. My God she is a real reporter!

7:31 a.m. “Opponents of health care” that is like “opposing immigration” We oppose NATIONAL health care. We can’t let them get away with the playing with languages.

7:40 a.m. Nobody is saying that the Obama administration shouldn’t hit the former one. A big Zing from Liz Cheney.

7:41 a.m. Joe is calling in…and points out the media double standard and the selective release of intel.

8:00 a.m. Liz Cheney is staying to talk to Eugene Robinson that should be interesting.

8:04 a.m. This is one of the reasons why war sucks. , the problem is the alternative is often worse.

8:08 a.m. I see you want him to shut up because you disagree with him.

8:09 a.m. She crashed his car as a teen. I’m afraid of that one myself.

8:10 a.m. Cheney is just taking him apart.

8:13 a.m. This is a great debate but Ms. Cheney needs to let Robinson make his point.

8:14 a.m. Robinson makes a good point about the legality, Cheney makes a great point about how the legalities were established.

8:15 a.m. God she is able to defend against him AND Barnicle get this woman in the White House.

8:16 a.m. Cheney hits the point, is waterboarding torture or not. That is the actual question. Who is right depends on the answer to that question.

8:18 a.m. Barnicle makes a great point that if he is the only card we have the intelligence is in trouble. Cheney agrees.

8:20 a.m. Why aren’t people talking. Maybe because of the talk of prosecution.

8:22 a.m. PLEASE PLEASE HAVE HER ON AGAIN! I’ll even not change the channel when Andrea Mitchell comes on.

8:25 a.m. Boy I wish Liz was here for this segment.

8:27 a.m. If Cheney was there she wouldn’t let Mitchell get away with the torture line in fact even though she said afterward advanced interrogation she made finger quotes to say “yeah right”. Can you say squirm?

8:30 a.m. She claims American values trump American safety (she didn’t use the term American safety).

8:33 a.m. Carlos Watson compares Dick Cheney to Roger Clemens in terms of passionate defense, he wouldn’t have gotten away with that if she was still there.

8:34 a.m. They didn’t get to the point. Mika is correct this is not a winning issue for Democrats.

With Mary Ann Glendon out of the picture I think the choice of a substitute speaker is a bad choice, if you are going to go with the president, you should have someone who complements him. Cassy Fiano has found the lady:

Of course, leave it to a rabid pro-abortionist like Jessica Ferrar to see otherwise. She’s a Texas state representative, recently honored by Planned Parenthood and the proud owner of a 100% NARAL approval rating.

Hey that’s Obama too it’s a match:

She’s currently trying to force through a bill that would make Catholic hospitals be required to dispense the morning-after pill.

Sounds like the freedom of choice act, right in his wheelhouse:

Her latest bright idea? To decriminalize infanticide. Introducing Texas HB 3318, the first of its kind in the entire country, known as “the infanticide bill”. It defines infanticide as:

A person commits an offense if the person wilfully by an act or omission causes the death of a child to whom the person gave birth within the 12-month period preceding the child’s death

The bill says that infanticide should not be prosecuted as murder, though, as long as:

… at the time of the act or omission, the person’s judgment was impaired as a result of the effects of giving birth or the effects of lactation following the birth.

Infanticide would become a felony, punishable by no more than two years in prison, with a minimum of 180 days, and/or a fine of no more than $10,000.

That sounds odd but consider that in Texas…

This bill was passed by the Texas State Criminal Jurisprudence Committee 7 to 1 on April 28th

7-1 hey that’s where the votes are so Fr Jenkins can use her to have a conversation. And she’s Catholic!

…then I can’t see how Notre Dame can’t back down:

After talking to President Barack Obama on the phone today, Republican Sen. Orrin Hatch says he believes the White House will move swiftly on its Supreme Court nominee, perhaps making an announcement by the end of this week.

Obama made no timing commitments to the Utah Republican, but the senator, who has been in the middle of several pitched Supreme Court battles, said: “I’d be surprised if it went beyond this week. … I would think by the end of this week or over the weekend, he’ll nominate somebody. I’m sure they’ve discussed this internally, back and forth for months now.”

What will they say when he names a strong pro abortion candidate? How will they justify it then? Of course if that doesn’t happen then, WOAH!
