Sensible, compassionate, logical – and a badly needed clarification of Catholic teaching rather a U-turn. But some commentators, who attached such weight to the Pope’s reference to a male prostitute, are going to have a really hard time talking themselves out of this one

I’m thinking screwtape:

the only thing that matters is the extent to which you separate the man from the Enemy. The pope is making the same argument in reverse, if the person uses the condom to prevent the spread of a deadly disease, he or she by showing that concerning is taking a small step toward the light. It doesn’t make the sins of Adultery or Fornication any less a sin, but you can’t walk away from the darkness without that first step toward the light.

And again the function here is intent. Using a condom to prevent pregnancy while trying to argue that you are just trying to prevent disease might allow you to convince yourself, but it doesn’t mean a thing, you can fool yourself, but at the gate your won’t fool St. Peter.

North Korea Keeps Testing Obama, will he fail?

Well here is another test for our president:

Thick plumes of black smoke were rising from a South Korean island on Tuesday afternoon after an unexpected attack by North Korea, killing several people.

The attack began around 2.30 p.m. local time when North Korea fired more than 200 artillery shells near the South Korean island of Yeonpyeong, which has a population of nearly 1,200. As many as 70 houses were reported to be on fire, sending huge plumes of black smoke into the air.

The Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) reported that at least several people had been killed in the attack, while the South Korean Yonhap news agency reported that at least 14 South Korean soldiers had been injured, including four who were seriously injured. At least four civilians were also injured.

Seoul confirmed it responded with artillery fire and scrambled F-16 fighter jets to respond to the sudden attack, which comes days after North Korea unveiled a vast new facility it secretly and rapidly built to enrich uranium.

Let me explain how you respond: YOU SHOOT BACK!

As long as you let NK shoot at you and don’t shoot back, they have a license to shoot at you.

Is there a danger of a full scale war? Yes, and the result of said war. The destruction of North Korea and NK knows it. This is a little dictatorship, they aren’t looking for a war, they are looking for a payout, but if they can squeeze SK they will.

And apparently South Korea gets it:

South Korea says it has returned fire after North Korea fired dozens of artillery shells at one of its border islands, killing two marines.

The South’s military was placed on its highest non-wartime alert after the shells landed on Yeonpyeong island.

The North said it did not fire first in the incident. Two South Korean marines and four civilians were also injured.

Sure and the North Koreans are feeding their own people fine too.

OK, so on October 13, 2010, North Korea unveiled their new missile with launching platform for submarine launched missiles. On November 4, 2010, the Military Chief of the North Korean military arrives in Cuba for a meeting. On November 8, 2010, a still-unidentified missile was launched from a submarine at rush hour off the coast of LA, and given all the “cargo ships” from North Korea that have been visiting Cuba this year…well, do I really need to finish that thought? Then, 4 days ago, NK revealed that they were doing what everyone with a pulse knew they were doing: making potential weapons grade plutonium from a nuclear plant. And today, they sent 200 missiles to the South Korean Island Yeonppeyong, killing several people.

200 missiles.

They got away with an act of war off our west coast…of course they feel entirely comfortable going after North Korea! And Japan…you’re on their list too.

Well President Obama, you wanted this job, what are you going to do about it?

In March of this year, the South Korean Pohang-class corvette was torpedoed by a North Korean submarine. Hillary Clinton responded by sternly warned North Korea that it would face consequences.

In warning Pyongyang, Secretary of State Clinton aimed to send a “clear message” to North Korea. “We cannot allow this attack on South Korea to unanswered by the International Community”. Whatever the message sent was, it didn’t deter North Korea from this latest attack. But don’t worry. The odds are that Secretary Clinton is consulting with allies to determine how to engage Pyongyang so that this doesn’t happen again, at least not in the next few months.

As a famous sea caption once said: “Cringing to these fellows will never do!”

Where is the Chris Christie Clip on Morning Joe?

This Chris Christie clip is all over the web:

Monday morning after crashing on the couch I woke up really early and expected to see Willie Geist on Way Too Early certain that it would be featured since Gov Christie is held in high esteem on Morning Joe.

Nope no sign, well it’s only a 30 min show so Morning Joe would surely have a clip from it?

Nope.

Now lets give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they had a lot to play with, but this is prime Willie Geist stuff and would lead right into another interview with the Gov.

I’ll watch tomorrow if I’m up. If they leave it out again, then I’m wondering is MSNBC worried about building up Christie? After all he may not be running in 2012 but 2016 is not that far away and every time he opens his mouth he improves the republican brand.

GOP vs Palin = Romney, Huck Et/al by proxy

There are quite a few bloggers unhappy with various republicans who are hitting Sarah Palin on a regular basis:

This annoys the hell out of me, because I’m not some rabid Palinista. Crap like this from Barbara Bush leaves one no alternative but to respond to it. What, does she have another son, or a grand kid lined up for the job of President? Reagan handed your husband his, despite some misgivings, and he blew it, Barbara…And as for Mona Charen’s, Why Sarah Palin Shouldn’t Run item at Townhall, congrats Mona, you finally found something to write about and make yourself relevant, again.

I’m sure Dan will elaborate more when he visits DaTechGuy on DaRadio on Dec 18th. Sissy Willis who is visiting on Dec 5th said this:

“I think they really hate that she not only is who she is, but she’s happy not to be like them,” twittered Kurt Schlichter earlier this afternoon as we were reading the entrails of the once proud Barbara Bush’s fall from grace in a forthcoming Larry King interview where the wife and mother of two former presidents stoops to give that “force of nature,” Sarah Palin, some ill-advised, unsolicited advice

I think everybody is missing a real important point here as republican after republican hits Sarah Palin and earns the attention and sudden interest of the MSM. What is interesting is not that who is hitting Palin but who is not, namely Republican candidates for president.

And there is a reason for this. The republican candidate who openly attacks Sarah Palin may or may not succeed in stopping her from getting the nomination but there is one thing for sure. It will definitely stop said candidate from getting on the ticket in any way shape or form. Even worse if I am wrong and such a candidate does manage to get on the ticket I can guarantee a conservative third-party that will either replace republicans or at the least cost them republicans elections for decades to come.

None of the current non-Palin people running want this. So what to do?

Proxy Proxy Proxy.

These various republicans are in my opinion working sub rosa for individual candidates. Their job is to make the statements and draw the media’s attention to Sarah Palin’s “failings”. Additionally each person who does this brings yet another series of negative press to the forefront. The hope is something, anything will stick deep enough to wound her come Iowa and New Hampshire.

The hope is that it drives sufficient negatives to keep her from winning primaries so that if another candidate breaks from the pack then they can ask Palin for support while denying any actions against her.

Could work. Likely won’t.
