New Dynasty Waivers Rules for 1975 (And general draft rules for all my future leagues)

Dynasty has just introduced a new internal Draft System which managed to come out the week after we finished our 1975 draft.

Starting for the 1976 we will be using this new system for drafting. I will also be using this system for any other league I create from this point on.

The draft system is also perfect for waivers so while it is too late to use it for the 1975 draft it CAN be used for the contested waivers system. I have edited the existing rules to reflect it but so that people don’t have to go through the entire rules I include those changes in this post as a quick guide which will be linked in the league home page:

The mechanics of the Waivers Draft System:

  • The commissioner or co-commissioner will set up a two round waivers draft every two weeks.
    • The waivers draft will consist of two rounds & begin Saturday night
    • Teams will have a three hour draft window
  • The system will automatically set up the waivers draft order based on record at the time is it set up
  • When a team is up they will either:
    • Make a manual pick OR
    • Have the system pick the top player in their draft queue. (this pick will be either automatic on your turn or when your time runs out.
    • Be skipped if they have not made a pick or there are no players in their draft queue.
  • When a player is selected he will automatically be placed in the minor league roster of the team

How to make a waivers draft queue:

  • Enter the draft screen and examine the available players.
  • The full list of players is avaialble in the center menu
    • A drop down menu allows you to sort available players by the positions listed on their cards
    • You man also enter the letters in their name & search by that
  • A button on the list allows you to view the card of any player you select to view.
  • Any Player that you wish to pick can be added to your draft queue by highlighting the player and hitting the QUEUE button
  • There is no limit to the amount of players you can add to your queue

How to edit your waivers draft queue.

  • On the right side draft screen is the QUEUE section, this contains all the players you have added to your draft queue
  • The order of the players in the Queue is the order that the system will make picks from your queue.
  • If you wish to move a player up or down in the queue highlight the player and choose the MOVE UP or MOVE DOWN button
  • You may remove a player from your queue at any time by hitting the REMOVE button
  • IMPORTANT! If a player in your queue is picked by another team he is automatically removed from your queue so if you are looking to fill a particular position make sure you have alternatives in queue because an empty queue means no automatic pick.

Making your pick:

There are three ways you can pick in the Dynasty draft system.

  1. When you are up in the draft highlight the player you want from either your queue or your list and click the PICK button
  2. Set up your draft queue as above & have the system automatically pick the top player in your queue (Via autopick settings)
  3. Have the system pick the top player in your queue if you have not manually selected a player by the end of your time.

NOTE 1: If you do not pick OR do not have autopick from your queue setup OR have no players in your queue you will be skipped

NOTE 2: Your queue will be automatically emptied at the end of the draft (so if it’s a waivers draft you will need to rebuild it if you wish to make waivers picks)

REMEMBER THIS WILL BE NEXT YEARS DRAFT SYSTEM & THE SYSTEM USED IN MY FUTURE LEAGUE SO PLEASE BECOME FAMILAR WITH IT.

Differences with an actual draft

This will be pretty much the system used for a regular draft with the following known changes:

Mechanics:

  • At least five rounds will be setup at a time. The maximum setup will be 25 rounds (a full draft)
  • The size of the draft window may be different

How to edit your waivers draft queue.

  • Because so many players will be picked from a full draft queue remember to order your queue carefully because the system will not know if your priorities change during the draft. So keep an eye on what’s available & what you need so if it turns out you suddenly have a shortage of good pitchers available that 1B at the top of your queue doesn’t get grabbed instead.

Remember for a full draft you will have at least a week to build a queue and will want to update it as players are picked and disappear from it.

As the system is new there are likely bugs that both we & dynasty don’t know about hopefully we will find them during wavers so it doesn’t hurt a future draft so expect the “draft” rules to be tweaked.
