Captain Jean Luc Picard: Professor, this situation is more serious than you realize. In less than five hours, those two planets will collide and a new star will form. Unless we move to a safe distance, this vessel will be destroyed.
Professor James Moriarty: I’m just a fictional character. I haven’t much to lose.
Captain Jean Luc Picard: But surely you wish to live like the rest of us?
Professor James Moriarty: Not alone. Not without the Countess.
Captain Jean Luc Picard:: We’ve discussed that. We are studying means of bringing her safely off the holodeck. But five hours is not enough time.
Professor James Moriarty: I’m not so sure. A deadline has a wonderful way of concentrating the mind.

Star Trek The Next Generation Ship in a Bottle 1993

We are Less than 10 months from the presidential election and that deadline has, in the wonderful way a deadline does, suddenly focused the mind of the left to the point where they are afraid that their open boarder policy plan to replace the existing electorate with one that might support them with the financial help our our enemies might actually produce an election backlash beyond the margin of fraud and remove them from power.

Since power is the primary goal of both the left and the deep state that tolerates them a “compromise” bill was put together. Said bill was crafted behind closed door because such a bill debated openly could not stand the scrutiny of light and then released all at once with billions of funding for all kinds of things that have nothing to do with the border, but a lot to do with the left’s objectives tossed in.

Alas in this computer age it didn’t take long for the text of the bill to be examined and the various provisions including allowing thousands to cross illegally daily, money to the left’s NGO’s we now have the spectacle of democrats DEMANDING the bill be passed at once and claiming that the GOP is not serious about the border if they don’t play along.

Now there of course is a very obvious solution to the problem at the border and that solution is this:

Enforce the already existing laws.

If the already existing laws are enforced the border problem is solved, however such an approach is not acceptable to the democrat left for some simple reasons:

  1. It doesn’t give sufficient opportunities for graft
  2. It doesn’t provide billions for their priorities that they can’t get passed otherwise
  3. Their goal is to APPEAR to address the border rather than actually doing so.

Thus a new bill that gives plenty of opportunities for graft (in the form of payments to the left’s NGO’s) and addresses democrat priorates ( again a source for graft) while actually codifying thousands of illegals crossing daily and most important of all gives them a chance to say: We Did Something to Fix it.

One of the advantages of age is memory and as I recall going all the way back to Reagan, deals have been made concerning the border with the left. These deals follow a familiar pattern where the left has repeatedly taken Amnesty and cash offered while failing to actually enforce laws concerning the border that they always vow to do in exchange for them.

So let’s cut to the chase and ask a question so obvious that I don’t understand why it isn’t being constantly repeated.

Given that historically the Democrats in general and this Administration in particular have been unwilling to enforce any existing border law why should we believe that once all the funds the left wants from this deal are appropriated via law they would actually enforce any provisions concerning border security?

Spoiler alert: they won’t be!

So I submit and suggest that rather then giving them a billion dollar source of cover for the 2024 election the GOP needs to have a single message on the border:

ENFORCE THE LAW, PERIOD!

End of discussion.

The most interesting thing about Nikki Haley’s appearance on Saturday Night Live is this statement from sources concerning NBC via the Hollywood reporter:

NBC declined to comment, but sources told The Hollywood Reporter that NBC will comply with any equal time obligations for other presidential candidates across both parties.

If I’m Trump I jump all over this.

Bill Belichick took out of full page ad in the Sunday Boston Globe to thank Patriots fans for their support an excerpt:

“Nowhere in America are pro sports fans as passionate as in New England and for 24 years, I was blessed to feel your passion and power,” Belichick’s letter read. “The Patriots are the only NFL team representing SIX states but in reality, Patriots Nation knows no borders.

“You were undaunted by weather, attended scorching hot training camp practices and braved Foxborough’s coldest, wettest, snowiest, and windiest days.… Your thoughtful letters offered support, critique and creative play suggestions. You watched on TV, the internet and from your stadium seats.

It was a nice gesture that’s made easier by his lack of a coaching job.

It’s worth noting his son is still employed as a defensive coach on the Patriots but I suspect Kraft was just waiting for Bill to get hired but as he was not it will be interesting to see how much longer he lasts.

The telegraphing of the Biden administration of counterstrikes against Iran giving the enemy time to evacuate and remove any important material is a function of a person who needs to seem to do something when actually he is not.

It reminds me of the old movie the American President. Michael Douglas’ characters insists on hitting back at the command center at night to decrease causalities and cries over the janitor who will be killed instead of hitting at the time when the actual people who were in charge of the attack where there.

Basically that janitor dies so he can feel better about himself. The Biden admin is all about false appearances.

Speaking of appearances new figures from the Border are demonstrating that Texas’ approach to you know actually enforcing the law has results:

A key stat:

Notably, the numbers in TX’s Del Rio sector, which includes Eagle Pass, have fallen off a cliff. In December, the sector saw days of 3,000-4,000 illegal crossings per day. Over the last week, it has averaged around just 200.

I know that California has no intention of enforcing the law the real question is what direction will New Mexico & Arizona go?

Finally while we still have one opening in our 1972 Dynasty League (Chicago Cubs if interested comment here) I have submitted my keeper list for our 1972 season. They are:

  1. LHSP Ken Holtzman
  2. LHSP Al Downing
  3. RHSP Mike Torrez
  4. RHRP Jerry Bell
  5. CF Ken Berry
  6. RF Pete Rose
  7. LF Gene Giles
  8. 1b Ron Fairly
  9. 2B/3B Ron Hunt

There were some really tough calls. Darryl Porter will be a monster in 1973 and Jim Slanton has a huge future ahead of him but they are only part time this year, Likewise Dave Conception is a killer defensive outfielder that I carried for two years but I’m heavy in the OF so he’s the odd man out, Bob Miller is a solid reliever and Bill Parsons eats up innings as a starter but I can’t justify them over any of the keepers. Finally Mike Jorgenson was picked up in a trade because he has a long and solid future ahead of him and while he is a better first baseman than Fairly this year and will soon be one of the best defensive 1B available by 1973, Fairly is going to have a monster year next season and except against lefties is still solid.

Maybe these guys will be available later in the draft but what I need to pick up is:

  • 3 RHSP at least one of Ace qualify
  • A solid power hitter (3B or C)
  • A starting shortstop
  • A Closer
  • 2 Catchers
  • Middle Relief

Fortunately thanks to trades with the Mets (Daytraders), Orioles, and Royals I have 3 1st round picks and two picks in the 3rd, 5th and 6th rounds so filling those spots should be a tad easier.

I’ve always known how to count

After Ron DeSantis pulled out of the race and I endorsed Trump I wrote the following in closing:

I’ll close with the same words I ended my endorsement of DeSantis with:

Closing thought: I’m convinced that if we nominate Donald Trump we will lose but if my advice is ignored and he wins the votes to be the nominee I will support him in the general election and make the best possible arguments for Trump (there is no lack of good arguments for his re-election) to convince those Blue collar folks to abandon their irrational hatred and vote for him, even though I think said effort is doomed to failure.  After all with God all things are possible.

Short of my sons each finding a nice Catholic wife there is nothing that is likely to make me happier then to be proven wrong in my assessment of our chances come November 2024.

After writing this there was a comment left by a strong Trump supporter who declared:

there are no blue collar haters of Trump … period … they may not all be fans … but no TDS among blue collar … anyone with TDS who claims to be “blue collar” is just lying …

and the Dems would have, will try to steal the next election from WHOEVER the GOP runs … so may as well go with the guy who gives us the best chance … and that was always going to be Trump

Well today after mass I had breakfast with a close friend. A guy as blue collar as they come who has been with the GOP since long before I met him. In fact he was a republican a solid decade and a half before I decided to join the side I was on.

One or twice a month or so we go out for breakfast and talk Religion, politics and sports and today we talked about Trump’s impending nomination.

To my surprise this fellow, who had voted for Trump in 2020 bluntly stated he was disgusted with him and would be voting for RFK Jr. this time around.

This is a fellow who is as conservative as they come, this is a fellow who acknowledges that Trump did a good job as president and noted both his problem solving style and his tendency to, if he could not achieve a desired aim directly, create the condition so that said desired aim could take place.

He further acknowledged that Joe Biden has been an absolute disaster as president and has bluntly stated that a second Biden term will be even worse.

None of that matters however. He’s disgusted with the cult of personality, he’s disgusted with the toadyism whereby when a person is running against him their the worst person in the world (and the subsequent falsehoods involved) but if they turn around and endorse him they’re suddenly wonderful again.

I spent an hour making the case that this is a binary choice and that a Biden 2nd term will mean the end of our civil liberties because if you reward someone who uses the full power of the state to destroy political opposition you are giving incentives to such a practice and once established can’t be stopped. The GOP voters choose Trump and that was our only choice to stop them.

He counted that Trump would cost the house and the senate not only in this election but in elections to come and Trump would produce majorities for the Democrat with an even worse long term result. Even if by some miracle Trump won a 2nd term Absolutely nothing I could say would change his mind, he is convinced that Trump’s second term, if it happened, will be the revenge tour and that he will be unable to fill a cabinet or achieve what he had done before

Absolutely nothing I could say would change his mind and as I dropped him off at his place noted that a commentator on my site specifically said that people like him simply didn’t exist. He answered:

“Well you can tell him that you just had breakfast with one.”

In fairness this is less an irrational hatred than a rational disgust and distrust but the end result is the same.

I greatly fear that this conversation is taking place all over the country to the same result, and while that might suit some in the Trump camp who do not wish the votes of the insufficiently devout, for a person like me who knows how to count it means it will take this administration making a move so inept producing a disaster so horrible that even those who hate Trump will decide they can’t let this continue.

Well either way I’m going to play this out and make the case for Trump as best I can until it’s over like Jackie Robinson after Bobby Thompson’s home run where he was the last off the field keeping an eye on Thompson on the off chance he failed to touch each base because he knew the game wasn’t officially lost until he did. If proved wrong nobody will be more delighted than I.

It’s a very long time between now and November and a I’ve said before with God all things are possible. I just wish that the defeat of the communist left didn’t rely so much on that maxim.

Thus says the LORD God of Israel: ‘I anointed you king of Israel. I rescued you from the hand of Saul. I gave you your lord’s house and your lord’s wives for your own. I gave you the house of Israel and of Judah. And if this were not enough, I could count up for you still more. Why have you spurned the LORD and done evil in his sight? You have cut down Uriah the Hittite with the sword; you took his wife as your own, and him you killed with the sword of the Ammonites. Now, therefore, the sword shall never depart from your house, because you have despised me and have taken the wife of Uriah to be your wife.’ Thus says the LORD: ‘I will bring evil upon you out of your own house. I will take your wives while you live to see it, and will give them to your neighbor. He shall lie with your wives in broad daylight.

You have done this deed in secret, but I will bring it about in the presence of all Israel, and with the sun looking down.'”

2 Samuel 12:7b-12

My son sent me this last night, listened to it this morning. I wish I could say I was surprised.

There are a lot of takeaways from this audio to wit:

  1. Kari Lake can’t be bought
  2. Jeff DeWitt can
  3. DeWitt suggestion that the leak of this would get him killed.
  4. The GOP deep state is terrified of Trump
  5. Reformers who suddenly find themselves in 7 figure jobs said “yes” in the past
  6. The plan is to steal Arizona

But the most important take away from this conversation is this:

That the folks in the GOP deep state KNEW that the last election was stolen and KNEW Lake’s last election was stolen and preferred losing then having Trump get a 2nd term or a Trump supporter in the Governor’s chair in Arizona who might reveal and investigate what is done.

I for one would like to know how many for the judges who made procedural rulings on the 2020 election had children, grandchildren or other family members who suddenly found themselves highly desired by large corporation for well paying jobs for finding grounds to stop Trump’s re-election.

But what I really would like to know are the people who ordered DeWitt to approach Lake.

DeWitt should resign in disgrace but what he really should to is name names because as I noted four years ago all of this will eventually come out:

I submit and suggest that given the sheer number of people involved the question it’s not a question of “If” the fact that the election was stolen will eventually leak out along with details and names. It’s a matter of “when” (That’s incidentally why I would not want to be the insurance company that issued policies on the lives of those lower level grunts who did the heavy lifting). Thus it becomes imperative to force as many people into the false narrative as possible so that when the facts do come up more people have a stake in ignoring, dismissing or outright denying them.

Maureen O’Hara knew that the only person who could betray her secret was herself. Kirschner and those who are openly (and quietly) backing him know that they don’t have the advantage O’Hara did. All they can do is continue is to do their best to manipulate the terrain so that when the facts eventually leak out as many people as possible will have pledged to look the other way. After all if they thought the election was fairly won they would not have to seek out people to affirm something that was self evident.

I imagine that Lenin and Stalin would be proud but not as pleased as Xi who is certainly getting value for his investment.

But before he resigns in disgrace or comes clean with names the best advice I can give him is to find a priest and go to confession, because contrary to what he might have been told, even selling your soul is a sin that can be forgiven.

Closing thought: The one thing we know for sure about the people who sent Mr. DeWitt? They’re not Sicilians because car blowing up business not withstanding they would know not to say something like this on a phone line: They should have taken a page out of Paulie’s book.
