It’s all in the wording

While scanning memeorandum for interesting stories today, the thing that caught my eye was not so much the stories but the headlines. Observe:

It's all in the spin

This is a screen shot of Memeorandum at about 7:30 a.m. of all the stories concerning the Judge’s ruling on a stay in the Prop 8 case. Ignore the actual words of the stories and look simply at the headlines. From simply the headlines you could not be sure how the judge actually ruled.

Each of the headlines is factually accurate, each one describes the same event but you would never know it just from that look.

This, even more than Ace’s screed about media spin reminds us that a writer can spin any event to deliver the desired message to the reader. So when scanning headlines let the reader beware because on the other end of that jump to a-13 the actual story might be hiding.

Qualifiers not withstanding it appears that their reports might have more meat than I thought, Confederate Yankee continues to disagree and has some backup. I respect him very much but the conflicting reports don’t seem to confirm one story or the other.

Or to put it another way. I don’t know the truth, so my implication that Digger’s Realm and Kimberly Dvorak were shown wrong was premature and patronizing.

Since I can’t decide what is true and what is not I have no business implying that they are clinging to a false story for that I apologize.

I talked to a friend, active tea party member and regular reader of this blog today. She will be making her TV panelist debut on WGBH Channel 2 Boston at 7 p.m. on the show Greater Boston talking about Illegal Immigration and defending the conservative cause.

As a conservative Tea Party person on public TV she will of course be matched against two liberals to challenge her. Pretty heavy stuff for her first time on the firing line, but I’m sure when the show comes on tonight I’ll see she acquitted herself splendidly.

7 p.m. WGBH if you are in Boston, the panel discussion should be online at the link above after it is broadcast.

Update: The video is online here

Politico reports on the Democrats latest paean to open mindedness and tolerance:

Last summer, Democrats argued that the Tea Party movement was the astroturf creation of corporate groups. Now that the grass-roots conservative resurgence has emerged as a clear force on the right, the left is making a different case: That tea parties are simply the enemy.

To that end, the Agenda Project, a new, progressive group with roots in New York’s fundraising scene and a goal of strengthening the progressive movement, has launched the **** Tea project (full censorship mine but it rhymes with “Duck”)

Ah the left still trying to shut down an authentic grass roots movement. Gateway notes the progression:

First the left introduced the Coffee Party.
Then they introduced the Cocoa Party.
Then last month the left came out with yet another astroturfed group to counter the tea party… “One Nation.”

Perhaps these groups all failed because they, unlike the tea party, were actually AstroTurf groups?

With this new group and the T(ea?)-Shirts that go with it they might be able to get a few sales from the college crowd or people who like to say **** but if this is the big plan of democrats they these guys are finished. One more note:

The new project, so far, features merchandise, polling statistics aimed to paint Tea Party members as ignorant, and a mocking video.

Well I have video upon video upon video upon video, upon video, upon video, upon video (you get the picture) of ACTUAL tea party protesters and ACTUAL tea party members giving their actual unrehearsed opinions so your mocking stuff is just another pathetic attempt to attack Americans you can’t win an argument with.
