In addition I will be at my normal spot liveblogging and tweeting Conservatively Speaking at 7 p.m. and playing 3rd 4th banana to Mike Wade and John Weston the hosts, until about 15-20 min before the end of the show when I have to make final arrangement for my own program.

You can find us at WCRN AM 830 on your dial and if by some chance you can’t pick up or incredibly strong 50,000 watt signal check out our live stream here.

Update: Conservatively speaking now on, we started with Shaunna O’Connell who won her state rep race here in Mass by 34 votes, now at 7:35 John O’Mara & Mike Long of the Northborough tea party. In the 2nd hour we will be talking with Tom Weaver from show id to vote

Back in September I attended the 9/12 rallies in Washington I talked to a lot of tea party members gathered at the capital and asks many questions, this was the most significant one:

“Who here trusts the GOP?” Not a single hand went up, but people over and over promised me that if the GOP spent like the democrats they would be back to throw them out too. No wonder the GOP is scared of the tea party.

Yesterday’s vote on the Omnibus Spending Bill confirmed this. Remember that only Kirk was a tea party win bigtime. It is the most amazing thing to see. Republicans are so afraid of the tea party that even before the Tea Party people are in congress the Republicans are changing.

I really didn’t think I”d see this. I am very pleased.

What are people saying?

Here is Reuters:

Democrats abruptly abandoned a fight over spending on Thursday and said they would instead extend government funding on a temporary basis, a move that gives Republicans a greater chance to enact the deep cuts they have promised.

It’s really sets things up for a change.

Politico is sad:

The decision Thursday night sweeps away months of bipartisan work by the Senate Appropriations Committee which had crafted the $1.1 trillion bill to meet spending targets embraced by Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R—Ky.) himself prior to the elections.

Yup nothing more bi-partisan than taking the public’s money and spending it on pork.

Doug Ross comments on Politico:

See if you can detect the spin from The Politico, the last redoubt of former WaPo reporters who don’t even try to disguise their party allegiance.

Bazinga!

National review’s Rich Lowry sees it for what it is

Tonight may indeed may be a “seminal moment,” as McCain said. This was to be the appropriators’ last hurrah. In the end, they couldn’t see it through, and it’s not going to get any better for them next year.

He cites McCain who deserves a lot of credit here

Gateway points out that there were plenty of republicans who started the day on board:

Reid says nine Republican senators approached him today to tell him that while they would like to see the bill passed, they could not vote for it.

This is very believable.

Interestingly enough the Frum Forum just quotes Politico but has no comments. I guess tea party victories aren’t worth commenting about over there.

Gay Patriot points out that this is happening because congress didn’t do its job:

You mean, Congress hasn’t even acted to fund the government for the current fiscal year? Wonder if we’re seeing any outrage on the editorial pages of the nation’s major dailies. Guess the Reid-Pelosi Democrats were so busy not letting a crisis go to waste than they created another kind of crisis.

Democrats you did this to yourselves.

Nice Deb isn’t dancing yet:

I hope some deal wasn’t struck with Republicans. I’m sorry I have a suspicious mind, but I do…

Well history would suggest this type of thing.

Cubachi asks a basic question:

Should a bill that will take two days to print and an estimated 50 hours to read on the Senate floor be passed? Of course not

That never stopped them before

Michelle Malkin points out the republican alternative to fund government is more than 2000 pages shorter

This is the Senate Republicans’ one-page joint resolution to keep the government-funded through February 2011 (via GOP Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell):

In fact it is one page and Michelle has it on her site. She also had a play by play of the night in the senate and in the house.

Jane Jameson at Right Wing News isn’t letting her guard down:

Let’s take a deep breath, give each other a tip of the hat, and maybe even enjoy a cocktail but this discredited and dingy Congress grinds on in lame duck session….. so there is no rest.

Put your computer on, pull up the two links to the House and Senate and keep checking to see what they are doing. CALL CALL the numbers below. The Democrats are hoping we will all be too busy with the holidays to care what is happening. DO WHAT YOU CAN.

good advice.

Bottom line we have to be on this every day. This is only the first step but the first step of a journey is always the hardest.

Am I the only person watching Morning Joe today who notices the massive hypocrisy today?

They spend the whole first segment hitting Jim DeMint for calling Harry Reid’s Christmas move “Sacrilegious” and insist that he should apologize to Reid for “insulting his religion”.

Yet they tease an acrobat act before the pope as “Chippendale” and jokes are made about how “the Pope likes them more than the nuns” and about “ripped men”.

I guess Morning Joe has a flexible definition on what is “insulting” a religion. Calling Harry Reid out for extending the session though Christmas offensive to religion Homoerotic jokes about the leader of one billion Catholics all in good fun. The panel practically couldn’t contain their delight in the 2nd hour.

Why the difference? Because the MSNBC audience likes one but not the other and yes Joe if you want to call for an apology from DeMint how about an on air apology from yourself first, because I guarantee I’m going to call you out on my Christmas Day Radio show if you make one more call for DeMint to apologize without apologizing yourself.

The second piece is even more ridiculous. They are hitting DeMint because of the idea of working through Christmas, they are talking about the troops and bringing up e-mails from nurses etc about how “they work on holidays suck it up” forgetting that the democrats could have brought all of this stuff up BEFORE the lame duck session.

That’s isn’t the double standard, the double standard is the news media. This year Christmas and New Years is on a Saturday so it doesn’t apply so much but how many of these media guys take holidays off? the 4th of July is Monday this year. Let’s see if they have guest hosts. In fact this year I will check CBS, NBC, CNN, ABC, FOX and MSNBC and see how many of the crew who are so self-righteous this morning are hard at work.

Update: They went there again at the top of the hour right after homoerotic pope jokes again. Fine! I formally request an apology over the Pope stuff. I guarantee this will be a top on my Christmas Radio show on the War on The Church and the War on Christmas.

Update 2: Instalanche! Welcome all, come and take a peek. Check out Massachusetts Republicans rearming here. Lets play some word games and find out why Sarah Palin and the tea party are driving the lame duck session. Check out the latest episode of DaTechGuy on DaRadio which featured Pam Geller of Atlas Shrugs and Bob Belvedere of Camp of the Saints for the full hour. Make sure you check out this week’s show at 9 p.m. EST on 830 AM WCRN when our guests will be Dan Riehl for the full hour with special guest the Right Wing Gamer! And please patronize our advertisers of Christmas who make the show and me paying my mortgage possible.

…although I think that the opportunity to tweak Mika on this one might actually be too tempting to pass up:

According to Duke-National University of Singapore researchers writing in the Archives of Internal Medicine
, “A tax on sugar-sweetened drinks in the U.S. would generate billions of dollars in federal revenue and have little impact on weight loss.” The researchers concluded that the best plan for reducing consumption of sugary drinks is to end sugar subsidies, not increase taxes.

You mean that a soda tax wont actually make people healthier? How about that! As the daily caller points out there is an interesting omission in the bloomberg news story that reported it. They detail a whole lot of polls who were for these taxes but leave out a particular one.

And perhaps most significant: Not a word about public health pioneer Mayor Bloomberg, owner of Bloomberg news.

Now Bloomberg is a No Labels guy (and the fellow with the bucks) but billionaires don’t like to be teased. Will the need to keep a possible No Labels candidate/fundraiser viable trump all else? We shall see.
