I’ve delivered Stacy McCain to his home at about 1:30 A.M. about 3 hours after he hoped to be there but we got great material from pa-10 and local party guys kept showing up to meet us so how could we leave?

My basic plan is to get up around 7, blog a tiny bit and then hit va-11, then a Heritage blog event , lunch with a pal then start back north with an idea of getting home by midnight or to divide the trip maybe hit another house race and find a hotel, motel, k of C or a friendly blogger to crash with in Maybe Conn or NY.

All that will be determined by when I wake up ready to roll so I’ll read you all later

Camillus NY 10:30 A.M. Oct 18, 2010 (via Ithaca NY 1:32 p.m. at the house of Legal Insurrection)

Stacy & I hit the Ann Marie Buerkle Press conference in front of a small mall in Camillus NY today

Stacy Takes Notes

The Press was there to hear what she had to say:

the press sets up for the conference

Buerkle bluntly stated that congressman Maffei was misrepresenting the fact.

Buerkle addresses the press

The idea is he is desperate to change the subject from his own voting record. This would not be a surprise as democrats in trouble have been running from their votes and the voters all over the country this year.

As for the “interesting” poll that shows her down, she pointed out bluntly that Maffei has not released polls all year, considering that she has been neck and neck for a while the idea that he suddenly has a 12 point lead is…”interesting“. Then again this is the same polling service that padded Rick Lazlio’s by 19 points and was 38 points off on Paladino in the primary.

I know its near Halloween, but if Maffei & the Mainstream Media are going to give out Whoppers…

Much better Whoppers than the MSM or Maffei's campaign are delivering this Halloween

…I suggest these instead.

I will have video uploaded as soon as I’m able, meanwhile next stop Pa-10!

Update: Stacy’s video uploaded faster than mine, here is his take at the blog and his spectator piece on it.

At the press conference, Buerkle introduced one of her tenants – a hairstyling salon owner named Andre – and said his situation exemplifies the economic problems of the 25th District that she hopes to address in Congress. “Andre represents one of those hard-working Americans who takes a risk. He spends days in his salon working hard to be successful. And Andre and all the other small businesses in upstate New York . . . need Washington to get out of the way.”

Meanwhile I’ve managed to get a quick video of people reacting before the press conference up:

The grass roots are very green here and will likely grow to a bumper crop come Nov 2nd.

Update 2: Here is Ann Marie Buerkle at the press conference:

At the Phillips HQ in Elmira

We ended up at the George Phillips HQ in Elmira near 4 p.m. The candidate had a commitment but his campaign manager gave us a run down of the district.

Campaign mgr Matt Hudson Explains the situation

It is a very odd shaped place that is designed to add democratic strength to the district.

The Long and Winding 22nd district

and before you complain about the evil democrats doing that, it was republicans who did so under the theory that it decreased democratic turnout in several other districts at the risk of this one. (think of GA-4 etc)

What we heard is what I’ve heard consistently from voters. New people coming, excited and energized, can’t keep up with sign requests, people of all parties ready for a change. As a rule you take such info with a healthy set of skepticism from a campaign manager but I’ve heard this story over and over again, I’m inclined to buy it.

This is only a glimpse, the views here are all spectacular!

We then jumped into the car and headed north we talked to some voters on the way and a pair just before the meeting with Mr. Phillips campaign man. The consistent feeling was anger, the results slightly different, some were too disgusted to vote, others were angry and couldn’t wait to vote, and one voter didn’t like the Gov choices.

Voters are just as angry but still mixed on Carl

We reached Clyde in Monroe county at the tale end of the event

I'd never actually seen a Grange hall

Buerkle was pressing the …

…as Stacy and the Lonely Conservative discussed the race

Ann Marie Buerkle addressed the crowd and the people seemed to like what they heard. I must confess I’m partial to her myself, her family came from Italy around the same time as mine.

We have one more stop in NY tomorrow then it’s off to Penn-10. I’ll have some video up tomorrow, meanwhile Stacy’s latest post is here. We passed through Mr. Hanna’s district but didn’t have time to stop today.

Update Forgot to mention we ended up at the Lonely Conservatives place where this report was filed from.

I will be uploading video tomorrow.

Update 2: The Lonely Conservative tells more

Hancock NY 12:35 p.m.

One of the disadvantages of chain smoking and chain coffee drinking is you on occasion forget that you put your cig butt in the coffee and thus we are at the nearest McDonald’s to allow Stacy to clear his throat before we continue.

We started off at 3 A.M. from Fitchburg and cruised through Conn. without incident until we hit Gardiner NY where our first event was to be.

An intersection just before Gardiner NY

We arrived at 7:30 and as the breakfast was till noon I took advantage of the nearby St. Charles Borromeo parish to attend morning Mass

St. Charles Borromeo Church Gardiner NY

while Stacy kept watch for the candidate. As the priest was telling us about the unjust Judge and the persistent widow Stacy Discovered that the event was canceled. (not the breakfast, just the Candidate showing up)

The menu at the Monthly Gardiner pancake breakfast at the Fire Station

Stacy was interested in hearing the Maureen Dowd and Frank Rich Columns. I usually avoid reading them so that was bad enough but reading them out-loud was torture. Rich persists in the “violent tea party meme” and Dowd is acting petulant as if she isn’t allowed to be part of the cool girl group. One needn’t fear any liberal being informed or being energized by them so I guess that’s something.

Newspapers at New Paltz

After a brief stop in New Paltz (where I found an open internet in a gas station parking lot) we hit the road again. Our current plan is to hit George Phillips HQ in Binghamton then off to NY-25

Large Roadside sign for Phillips

So far not a lot of interaction with the locals, just some background grumbling. Considering that I am not looking shall we say, my best that’s not a huge surprise.

One oddity, the signs for the candidates have always been at roadsides I have yet to see a sign for any candidate in front of any person’s private residence. I don’t know if that is a NY Law or just an oddity, I’ll find out at the next stop.

Stacy takes a shot

Update
: Stacy tells of our phone conversation with the Lonely Conservative and some “interesting” poll results.
