Five Movie/TV Thoughts: Blazing Saddles, Bond, Big Bang & Brian (Plus Tom Brady) Under the Fedora

When you work a repetitive job that doesn’t require a lot of mind, you have time to pray your rosary and occasionally have ideas for post pop into your head, you also get weird and silly things running through your head like this:

This scene from Blazing Saddles was in my mind lately:

It’s not a well known but a “do da day” is 21.779 hours long that’s why it’s much easier to do things “all the do da day”. I think it would be a lot of fun to put a bunch of college snowflakes in an auditorium and watch them go doing their best to hold back laughing while pretending to be “triggered”. Of course a few true believers would in fact be outraged.

Such people should be laughed at.

In the Big Bang Theory, Howard is supposedly a lapsed jew and Bernadette is supposedly a good Catholic Girl, does that mean their children were baptized? Was their wedding blessed or “Jewish” & “Catholic” just a word to be thrown out for a joke?

For some reason this scene from the Classic Bond Movie “The Man With the Golden Gun” came into my mind this week

That’s Clifton Webb as Louisianan Sheriff JW Pepper who Bond (Roger Moore) met in the previous movie “Live and Let Die” He might be there for comic relief but if you think about it this guy is actually pretty brave.

He suddenly finds himself, while on vacation, in a high speed car chase with a man he knows is a secret agent (what he’s doing shopping for cars half a world away is another question) and how does he react?

Does he insist on being let out, does he call for help. Nope, he goes all in. It’s true that he doesn’t know that the man he is now helping to chase can kill him with one shot and I suspect he wouldn’t have cared if he did. As far as he’s concerned the cold war is on, Bond is on our side and he’s ready to lay it all out there.

For some reason Siskel & Ebert has been coming up in my Youtube suggestions and I dug up an old review of theirs of Monty Python and the Life of Brian:

I watched them for a lot of years and preferred the old “Sneak Previews” vs the syndicated “At the Movies” and this is the only time I remember both of them laughing out loud at a scene in a movie.

Finally I know this doesn’t go here but if you, unlike me, subscribe to the idea that Tom Brady is leaving NE look for a team that has two things

  1. a great receiving corps
  2. An impenetrable offensive line

Brady has all the money he will ever need and if anyone thinks he is leaving New England for any time that doesn’t provide a group of people who can catch the ball along with a group of people who are going to keep him from getting killed, you’re out of your mind.

Me I think he stays in NE after winning the Superbowl this year to try to get a ring for every single finger. I suspect eight will be enough.

Shocked SHOCKED about California Crime, Lies on Impeachment, Mass, Brady as #1 & the 86th min Revolution comeback Under the Fedora

When I saw this piece at Hotair about folks being Shocked SHOCKED at an increase in theft once it was decriminalized in California all I could think of is this. This is basically what people are doing with the attempts to redefine what sin is, with the full knowledge that it will cause an increase in it. This is a feature not a bug to these folks in charge.

I don’t understand why people seem so Shocked SHOCKED that the Democrats seem to be redefining impeachable offenses and to a large degree even truth. After redefining what “marriage” and “man” and “woman” is why would anyone be surprised that they will redefine truth on the fly when it suits them?

Was at Mass today (actually two) , I was still stewing concerning something at work that has really angered me when I went and viola, the sermon (at the 1st mass) talked about approaching prayer in general and in particular God with the wrong expectations. After all these years you would think I wouldn’t be Shocked SHOCKED at getting exactly what I needed from a short sermon at a daily mass but the surprise still comes.

On a pair of sports shows there were folks Shocked SHOCKED that Tom Brady being ranked as the #1 QB in the league at this point with Pat Mahomes at 6. While I agree that at 6 Mahomes is too low I think I’d be more Shocked SHOCKED if the defending champion superbowl QB who has outscored opponents 106 to 17 and is doing it at the age of 42 wasn’t ranked #1 in the league at this point.

Finally I was surfing sports radio yesterday as I drove home and the only game on was the New England Revolution vs Portland Timbers. It was 1-0 as I drove home and when Portland scored again in the 81 minutes. As this is soccer you figure it’s over but not only does the Revolution score in the 87th minute but in the 96th minute after a desperate throw in and kick into the box a video review showed that a Rev Player was pulled down in the box for a penalty kick which would tie the game.

I’m not a soccer guy but I confess that I stayed in the car for the end and was Shocked SHOCKED that they tied that game after being down 2-0 in the 86 min. If I was the revolution I’d be using this to push the game locally.

The Problem if a NFL team signs Kaepernick that nobody wants to talk about

There has been a rash of injuries in the NFL at QB this season, which is slightly surprising as the rules protecting that position have increased over the years, but no matter the oddity of it you are seeing a lot of new faces behind center early because of it.

This has led to some speculation that Colin (Castro is great police are evil) Kaepernick might find himself approached by a team for a backup position or maybe even more.

Now there are some advantages to such a signing, he is an experienced QB, he has played in a Superbowl and has now had several years of not being hit by 300 pound masses of muscle which can do wonders for the body’s healing process, however I suspect that he is doing much better financially as a professional martyr, which doesn’t involve 300 pound masses of muscle hitting you so I suspect that even if a team did come calling he would say no.

But let’s, for the sake of argument say that if a team in need, perhaps one that’s doing well but has already lost a QB loses another and convinces him to sign, say by appealing to his pride and he decides to go on the field, then things get complicated, now with the outraged fans, BUT WITH THE PLAYERS.

Now suddenly Colin Kaepernick is behind center and the whole, black lives matter, SJW network has everything riding on his success. If you are a black player on defense, WHAT DO YOU DO?

Remember if you hit this guy, or sack this guy or lead to this guy’s failure, do YOU become the target of SJW wrath? Are you considered a “race traitor?” are you going to be blamed because Kaepernick didn’t make it. Were you REALLY against him all the time? If you defend that pass as a black LB or Corner or Safety are you trying to let the bad guys win? And don’t get me started if a white defender sacks him. Were you out to get him because you’re gulp a TRUMP supporter? Did you hit him hard because you hate him?

It’s just as bad on offence. Say you are a white player either on the offensive line and somebody beats you on a play and gets to Kaepernick, are YOU going to be targeted by the SJW crowd, are people going to claim that you let these guys through just because you wanted to let Kaepernick get hurt? Are they going to say the same any time a white receiver drops a pass he throws or misses a block? Is your entire performance going to be about race. And it’s just as bad for a Black player on offense, will every dropped pass, hole you fail to rush through or block you fail to make be a betrayal of the cause?

People think that the fan reaction is why Kaepernick will never get on the field and early on that might have been true, but with the passage of time and the increase in crazy by the left in general the implication of being on the football field with Kaepernick have become so dire for players, that even though there might actually be sound reasons why a team might consider him for their roster I suspect many players of are quite content to do without him, even if they dare not say so.

Update: I didn’t mention the possibility of a defensive player lying down deciding he’s not going to make that play, or knock away that pass either because he’s down for the cause or because he’s afraid of being called racist.

The Big Bang Theory: The Panty Pinata Polarization 2008

There was a rather amusing moment yesterday after the Patriots unexpectedly released wide receiver Antonio Brown Friday afternoon. Sean McVey is at a press conference and is asked if the Rams might be interested in Brown, here is the response.

Remember this is the same Antonio Brown who was voted 7th best player in the NFL for this season right behind Tom Brady and who caught a touchdown pass from that same Tom Brady last Sunday.

There are many reasons why the Patriots might have released Brown after only 11 days. Maybe they decided the charges against him are credible, maybe the text messages were the last straw, maybe they figured that the league was going to make him ineligible anyways and figured to get a jump on things, maybe after only 11 days they figured the distraction level wasn’t worth it or perhaps he just wasn’t picking up the system.

But one thing is sure, that the dynamic I mentioned in this post is now in play:

What’s the downside for the Pats if they cut him? The worst that happens is the betting line get slightly worse on them AND the best that happens is Tom Brady has yet another motivation to prove himself to the pundits who will all declare how losing Brown hurts the Pats chances.


Meanwhile what’s the downside for Brown? You not only become the guy in a contract season who has confirmed to every GM in the league that you are uncoachable,

Now in fairness to Brown this likely has more to do with new revelations that being coachable, but consider this.

If you’re Kansas City, or Baltimore or the Chargers or Dallas or Seattle or the Rams before the Patriots signed Antonio Brown you might have been thinking that the 7th best player in the league might be just the guy to put their team over to top to dethrone Brady and Co

Now that the Patriots have ditched him after only 11 days do you think there is going to be a single team out there that’s an actual threat to the Pats that will take the risk, and that’s of course assuming the league allows him to play?

Signing Antonio Brown on the roster for those 11 days might turn out to be the greatest insurance policy every written for a NFL team.
