“Be kind to everyone on the way up; you’ll meet the same people on the way down.“

Wilson Miznor

Of all the reactions to the Potential Arrest of Donald Trump for political reasons one of the ones I found most amusing was this:

How DARE Ron DeSantis not say anything about something that hasn’t happened in a state that isn’t his to defend somebody who has not only been attacking him relentlessly but has had their surrogates with the help of the left try to impede him.

Of course this didn’t stop Mike Pence appearing on ABC from calling this out for what it is:

It just feels like a politically charged prosecution here. And I, for my part, I just feel like it’s just not what the American people want to see. We got real challenges in this country today, Jon. People are facing record inflation, a crisis at our border. We have war in Eastern Europe, the American people are anxious about the future and here we go again, back into another politically charged prosecution directed at the former president of the United States, and I would just hope for better.

If I’m DeSantis I don’t say a thing until something happens and if I am asked I’d say something like this:

This is the reason why so many people are leaving NY and choosing Florida you have a DA ignoring actual crime while going after people for political reasons.

Of course what I think he should say is now moot because before I could finish writing the post DeSantis said this:

He hit all the best key points:

  • Soros prosecutor downgraded 50% of felonies to misdemeanors
  • He’s basically weaponizing the office
  • The real victims are the regular people because crime that hurts people is ignored.
  • I’m the only Governor who has removed a Soros prosecutor from office

He even managed an interesting line that I’m sure Donald might not appreciate:

“Look, I don’t know what goes into paying hush money to a pornstar to secure silence over some type of alleged affair. I can’t speak to that. But what I can speak to is that if you have a prosecutor who is ignoring crimes happening every single day in his jurisdiction and he chooses to go back many many years ago to try to use something about pornstar hush money payments, you know that’s an example of pursuing a political agenda and weaponizing the office,”

But given all the attacks Trump has given him he’s got no business complaining. Although his surrogates are all pissed off. I’ll give Brian Jacobson the last word.

If you want people to be your friend when you need them, act friendly.

Three Years ago when they announced the two weeks to “Stop the spread” I bundled my wife into the car and took her for a birthday drive.

The roads were pretty empty so we went to the beach, which was deserted and she had a chance to watch the waves and quickly get her feet wet in the ocean. We drove up the NH coast into Maine and ended up at Mike’s Clam Shack in Wells Maine on what turned out to be the last day of customers walking in for a while. We got an order to go and headed home with DaWife pronouncing it an excellent birthday gift.

When the restrictions were lifted again on her birthday we headed up to Mike’s with her newly widowed (despite her husband’s vaccine) sister in tow retracing our steps from that day again hitting the beach and Mike’s Clam Shack up in Maine.

DaWife’s birthday is tomorrow but today after I hit mass and pick up her cake in West Boylston we’ll be continuing that tradition with a drive to main and taking along her newly retired sister.

It’s odd to think that with all the evil that came from Fauci & Brix a pleasant birthday tradition would have come from their actions but that’s the providence of God.

On Tuesday March 14th, our illegitimate president issued another illegitimate executive order.  This one is intended to make it more difficult for Americans to purchase guns, by adding more odious hoops they must climb through, in order to exercise one of their most important God-given natural rights.

The changes made by this executive order are more incremental than drastic.  Progressives are firm believers in the philosophy of incrementalism.   Fewer individuals notice if their rights are stripped away by a gradual eroding.  By the time most notice the full effects of the numerous little encroachments it is too late.

The stated purpose of the executive order is discussed in this article, which appeared in The Hill.

President Biden on Tuesday plans to announce an executive order that aims to increase the number of background checks conducted before gun sales, cracking down on firearms dealers who violate federal law.

The goal of the executive order, set to be unveiled during a Biden visit to Monterey Park, Calif., is to move the U.S. as close to a system of universal background checks for all gun sales as possible without requiring legislation from Congress. Biden has called for Congress to pass universal background checks, but such legislation is a non-starter in the GOP-controlled House.

As always with the Biden Regime, the actual implementation of this executive order will go far beyond the stated purpose.  The effects will be far more onerous.  The end result of this executive order will in fact result in universal background checks.

Like all federal gun control measures, background checks are unconstitutional.  They infringe on our right to bear arms.  There exists no provision in the Constitution granting the federal government the authority to conduct background checks on those wishing to purchase a gun. Progressives want to impose universal background checks because they will get to pick and choose who will be allowed to own guns. They get to dig real deep into the lives of everyone applying. They will discriminate against political enemies such as MAGA Republicans.

All executive orders that go beyond the members of the executive branch of the federal government are unconstitutional.  This one is no different.

Buried in the executive order is this deeply unconstitutional provision.

The order will also increase the use of “red flag laws,” which allow a judge to take away a firearm from someone based on the suspicion that they could use it to harm themselves or others. Biden will direct members of his Cabinet to partner with law enforcement, health care providers, educators and other community leaders to encourage the effective use of red flag laws in the states that have them.

Red flag laws violate the Due Process clauses of the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments.

It is well past time for the Republican Party to grow a spine.  Far too often the Grand Old Party has stood on the sidelines while progressives strip away the right to bear arms from the American people.

The bailout hustle

Silicon Valley and New York City bankers got a good deal: a bailout worth billions of dollars in exchange for millions in campaign funds for Democrats.

But the cozy relationship between bankers and Democrats is a fairly recent development.

My father was a banker in the Midwest and a diehard Republican. He condemned FDR’s spending policies, loved Ronald Reagan, and wanted the government to balance the budget and stay away from his paycheck.

In fact, I thought for years that you had to join the Republican Party to become a banker. As a boomer, I thought my father was a bit off his rocker in his politics, and I wish I had told him just how right he was.

Today’s bankers remind me of the commodities traders I reported on in the 1970s. They’ll bet on almost anything.

Silicon Valley Bank bet on almost every tech idea that came through the doors.

But Andy Kessler of The Wall Street Journal goes beyond the gambling. “Management screwed up interest rates, underestimated customer withdrawals, hired the wrong people, and failed to sell equity. You’re really only allowed one mistake; more proved fatal. Was management hubristic, delusional, or incompetent? Sometimes there’s no difference,” he wrote.

Signature Bank of New York added political wokeness to the combination. The bank refused to do business with Donald Trump, scolding him for the events of January 6, 2021.

Despite all this nonsense, Biden & Co. will bail out the banks even though the White House says it’s not a bailout, providing funds to depositors who recklessly kept more than $250,000 in the banks. Federal bank insurance would not have covered that money until Biden waived the limit.

But the math doesn’t work. Silicon Valley Bank had $173 billion in total deposits, including $152 billion not covered by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. Also, the FDIC did not cover $79 billion of the $88 billion in deposits at Signature Bank.

That’s nearly double the amount at the FDIC to cover all the depositors over $250,000.

Treasury officials said any losses to the DIF would be repaid in full by raising fees on the system’s banks. If the FDIC charges banks higher fees to cover the extra money, those costs will probably be passed onto the consumer through higher costs, such as increased ATM charges and overdraft fees.

So we will end up paying much of the bill for the bailout!

At least there’s a silver lining to all these shenanigans: no one will ever take Jim Cramer seriously, who told people to buy Silicon Valley Bank stock.
