It is hard to believe that it has only been one year since the Coronavirus lockdowns began in earnest.  It feels more like ten years to me here in Massachusetts because the restrictions imposed by Governor Charlie Baker have been that disruptive to everyone’s lives.  These restrictions will prove to be absolutely devastating for bars, restaurants, and all other types of small businesses across the state.

All of these restrictions were supposed to last only two week and were meant only to flatten the curve so hospitals were not overwhelmed.  The freedom of everyone in the state was flattened along with so many businesses.  Instead of being lifted after the promised two weeks the restrictions were continuously ramped up over the course of the past year.  The governor went as far as imposing a curfew despite the fact that viruses cannot tell time.

Right now all bars are closed unless they serve food, classifying them as restaurants.  All restaurants are only allowed to operate at 25 percent indoor capacity, relying mostly on takeout and delivery.  Most other businesses are also restricted to 25 percent capacity.  It is difficult to imagine that businesses such as restaurants can stay in business long with such restrictions.  The number of businesses that have failed is staggering and will only get worse until the restrictions are lifted.  Governor Baker never produced one shred of evidence proving scientifically that these restrictions limited the spread of this virus in any way.

Governor Baker went so far as to limit the number of people anyone can have in their own private homes to 10 and impose indoor mask restrictions.  This went into effect just before Thanksgiving and remained in effect during Christmas.

Thanks to our governor everyone must wear a mask whenever they are outside of their homes.  Even people walking by themselves on a deserted street or by themselves in a large open park must wear a mask.  That is a rule I break every day.    I would love to ignore the stupid rule about wearing masks in stores and restaurants but I’m living in Massachusetts.  Anyone who dares to not wear a mask faces a mob of brainwashed busybodies screaming bloody murder.  The managers of the establishment call the police and file paperwork with the police so you can’t shop there anymore.  The police will then fine you a few hundred bucks.   Facing that is too much for single individuals to face,  We need mass maskless protests and a large segment of the population to say no more masks.

The case count here in the state skyrocketed to almost 9000 new individuals testing positive a day during early January.  That is three times the number of new cases at the height of the previous peak in April.  Even though the number of cases tripled, the number of hospitalizations were only half the previous peak along with the peak in deaths.  So many asymptomatic people were testing positive along with those who were never sick enough to need hospitalization.  The massive Coronavirus surge the past several months was only a surge in positive tests.

Since the peak in early January the number of new cases, hospitalizations, and deaths has plummeted to just one sixth of the peak.  That is because we have reached herd immunity along with two million being vaccinated.  With all of this Governor Baker must end all of his freedom and business killing edicts.  We the people of this state must demand that emergency powers of the governor be slashed so the people of this state never will have to go through the hell we went through this past year ever again.

The Big Bang Theory: The Proposal Proposal 2017

About 30 minutes ago I came home from work and as I don’t own a cell phone or have an internet connection at work went to the net to see what was up. Given what we’ve seen over the last two months there’s not very much that can surprise me but this via Lifesite and Citizen Free Press did:

Activist Milo Yiannopoulos is now ‘Ex-Gay,’ consecrating his life to St. Joseph

‘Secular attempts at recovery from sin are either temporary or completely ineffective. Salvation can only be achieved through devotion to Christ and the works of the Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church.’

The interview that followed tells the story and like all such stories is one of ups and downs:

My own life has changed dramatically, though it crept up on me while I wasn’t paying attention. I’m someone who responds to micromanagement and accountability, so I’ve found counting days an effective bulwark against sin. In the last 250 days I’ve only slipped once, which is a lot better than I predicted I would do.

It feels as though a veil has been lifted in my house — like there’s something more real and honest going on than before. It’s been a gradual uncovering, rather than a dramatic reveal.

This is not going to be easy although he is likely to get an awful lot of support from actual faithful Catholics and a ton of hate from not only the intolerant left but from the various: “Catholics for Mortal Sin” groups, not to mention being targeted by Satan. It’s not going to be an easy time. he’s likely going to stumble more than once, which is what the sacrament of confession is for and will undoubtedly have every failure he experiences during this time trumpeted and highlighted by the media and their pals.

If he manages to persevere he will undoubtedly be reviled boycotted and excoriated by the media, academia, the Hollywood and secular left till the day he dies.

However After that I guarantee he will not be alone.

Pray for him.

A royal mess

I’ve never really understood the American fascination with the British royal family.

For centuries, the monarchy has been a dysfunctional band of malcontents who battled over religion and turf. Henry VIII and George III were bona fide madmen. Princess Margaret and Lady Diana didn’t get along with the other royals. Prince Charles always struck me as a dopey mope.

So why did 17 million Americans watch an interview by Oprah Winfrey with Prince Harry and Princess Megan?

I don’t know. Maybe prurient interest?

A quick survey of my friends on Facebook found no one would admit to watching the two-hour attack on the royal family.

One British friend, a former BBC reporter, disagreed. “It’s quite important, he wrote. “Just think about it. It’s about institutions, race, personal freedoms, mass idiocy, and it’s told through a story of two young people who went against the grain. Yes, they’re rich. But does that make The Grapes of Wrath better or less significant than The Great Gatsby?”

It’s not a bad defense for watching the program. Since there’s little I haven’t watched on Amazon, Hulu, and Netflix during the pandemic, my standards are pretty low, but I still wouldn’t spend two hours on Harry, Meghan, and Oprah.

Then there’s the money. It’s reported that someone—probably Oprah’s production company—paid between $7 million and $9 million for the interview. There was a time that paying for news was an ethical breach. I guess the interview may not be technically news, but still.

It’s unclear who got the money. Everyone swears that Harry and Meghan didn’t get a dime. Since they face being cut off from the royal treasury, particularly after the interview, I find the disclaimer hard to believe.

Since the program aired on CBS, how much did the one-time “Tiffany Network” plop down?

I never thought Oprah was a particularly good interviewer. I worked with the best: Barbara Walters.

It seems that Oprah didn’t press the royal couple on what I would consider the most crucial question: What did they expect to happen after they got married?

In 1936, King Edward VIII took over the reign of England. However, he abdicated his throne to marry the love of his life, Wallis Simpson, an American and two-time divorcee. In an interview many years later with the BBC, Edward provides a path Harry and Meghan should take. See https://www.telegraph.co.uk/royal-family/2021/03/07/meghan-can-learn-mrs-simpsons-tell-all-tv-interview/

At the end of the interview, the reporter asked the duke if he had any regrets about not having remained king. “No,” he said. “I would have liked to have, but I was going to do it under my conditions. So I do not have any regrets. But I do take a great interest in my country – my country which is Britain – your land and mine. I wish it well.”

Very Quick Thoughts Under the Fedora

Apparently people are trolling the left with terms like. “Superstraight” defined as a hetrosexual person who is attracted to the opposite sex.

During my youth the term for this was “normal”

I think this is a very pythonesque way to fight back against these fool and obviously anyone who object is a racist sexist etc who should be banned from everywhere.

Can anyone tell me who actually decides who gets to be one of our “elites”?

Given the resources available I can’t see why we just can’t come up with our own.

Do actual people who are struggling to get by actually care about fabalously rich former royals who claim to be oppressed and suffering?

I work with a bunch of people working for minimum wage in a country they are not from who don’t speak the language yet I don’t hear them whine they way these folks do, although in fairness given my inability to speak Spanish, Portuguese Creole, Cambodian or several African languages if they were whining I would not likely not know it.

Speaking of these folks with gas going up .75 over the last two months Joe Biden has done more for Russia in his first 60 days then any other US president.

There is a lot of loose talk about civil wars but while a lot of people think it will happen I’m thinking that the well armed people on the right aren’t going to start taking up arms and shooting until

  1. Antifa violence spreads to Red areas (blue cities in Red states don’t count)
  2. they are made uncomfortable

When people are well fed, well entertained and generally not in physical danger they are not likely to be running for the guns, particularly when death is not a regular part of life anymore.

However there is one factor that makes it more likely, the complete unfamiliarity of most of the American people with what an actual war entail but that deserves a much longer post..
