In the last hour there was an attempt to assassinate Donald Trump he appears to be wounded in the ear. There are conflicting reports of if anyone else was killed or wounded (other than the shooters). This is from Byron York

As I’m tying this the report is one attendee is dead and another wounded. Right now on twitter there are a bunch of leftists complaining “How can you miss” to the point where it is trending on twitter. I have this question for Elon Musk:

I wonder if those upset that Trump survived are consoled that they managed to kill at least one of his supporters.

Here are the headlines from the MSM at the time I posted this one twitter:

Well I guess when you scream that Trump is a threat to democracy and that he’s Hitler for a year this is not a shock. On the plus side for the media they now have an excuse to stop talking about Joe Biden’s mental health but I suspect this is going to hurt their chances in November even more.

My first thought and it’s actually a rather terrible one, Given the left’s continual Trump derangement fed by the media, academic, Hollywood and Democrats in congress I’m really shocked that it’s taken this long for someone to try to kill him.

I’ll close with this:

Update: the iconic photo

Update 2:

The White House has put out a statement but Joe Biden hasn’t spoken on it, that makes sense because the last thing democrats need is the contrast between the pair emphasized.

Update 3: Boy was I wrong. Heard Joe Biden’s statement on the radio on the way to supper. I don’t think it could have been more perfect in the situation. Furthermore it was his best public performance and the most presidential thing he has done in a long time.

I don’t think this was a calculation in this moment but I’d say this speech guarantees that he stays on the ticket

“I don’t know enough, I have an opinion but I don’t have any facts so I want to make sure we have all the fact before I make some comment or comments.”

The world would be a better place if a lot of people took that last line to heart.

Update 4: Donald Trump put out a statement on Truth social:

Solid statement as well particularly leading with thanks to law enforcement and condolence to the person murdered in the attempt to kill him.

Today I noticed Tom Baker Trending on Twitter and after confirming he was not dead went over to take a look and found this among the tweets there:

It speaks volumes that on the day this is announced Tom Baker is trending on twitter and not her.

I had a horrible feeling this was coming because I had purchased a Bundle for the 60’s anniversary called Once and Future which was a series of stories featuring full stories for all the doctors who do big finish: Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Sylvester McCoy, Colin Baker, Christopher Eccleston, (the late David Warner who has played an alternative universe doctor for decades) David Tennant and Paul McGann along with smaller parts for actors who are playing the 1st – 3rd doctors & 11 & 12).

The series was all released last year except for one which was held out even though the continuing plot was completed with absolutely no details about the episode or cast released. I had a nasty suspicion that the reason why was Whitaker and they that there were plenty of folks like me who would have given the bundle a miss if they knew that was the case.

I was close they’ve just announced today the final part will feature Jo Martin as the fugitive doctor.

I don’t have a problem with Big Finish doing Jo Martin stories or even Jodie Whitaker Stories, if there is a market that will support those produces there is no reason why Big Finish should not take advantage of that market.

They had already announced one Joe Martin set and recently announced a 2nd which means the pre-orders justified such a move so there is definitely a customer base that wants it. I suspect that drove the decision to sign Whitaker and if they can make a profit with them more power to them that’s how business works.

And if the Jodie Whitaker episodes prove profitable and sell well then Big Finish would be foolish to not take advantage of it. That’s Business

What’s not business however was the decision to play the bait and switch.

The reason why Doctor Who’s TV ratings are tanking worse that in the Colin Baker Sylvester McCoy years is the BBC chased a lot of customers away who had not only been fans but passed that fandom to another generation. Big finish was a refuge for such fans who would enjoy the old series and didn’t want William Hartnell as the first doctor thrown under the bus.

Even with Whitaker and Martin signed it wouldn’t be a problem for us old timers. We would have had the choice not to support these changes. Those who wanted to could buy them and any cross over produces while those of us who didn’t could avoid them. All the customers are served & happy.

By not telling their loyal customers that buying the Once and Future Bundle meant supporting the re-write of Doctor Who’s origin they conned me and I suspect others into buying a product we would have passed on otherwise. The worst part is every single time I go to my account’s download page that will be on top awaiting the download that will never come and reminding me that I’ve been played.

It’s odd how priorities can change. This weekend I’ve been bouncing back and forth between buying the latest 9th doctor bundle (12 hours $120 or so) or just the River Song episodes (3 hours $30). Was going to decide on Sunday but as of today I think we’ll go with none of the above.

Oddly enough I also find that Crossover DeathWorld featuring the the no longer1st, no longer 2nd and no longer 3rd Doctor which came out this month along with the sequel to Susan’s War just doesn’t seem as attractive a purchase to me as it did a day ago.

I think I’ll confine the remainder of the my big finish purchases to the few Tom Baker episodes I still don’t have and when Tom finally goes off into the sunset so will my big finish days.

Penny wise pound foolish.

Whatever my feelings on the bait and switch none of that reflects on the quality of their productions. Big finish has a 25 year record of producing high quality stories with excellent writing and solid post production that has only improved with age and that brings up a very intriguing aspect to Whitaker signing on.

While I religiously avoided the Whitaker era my oldest son watched it and pronounced it the absolute worst era of the show saying that only about three episodes were recognizably Doctor Who. Ironically he thought that the Jo Martin Character was more recognizable as the Doctor than Whitaker was. He blamed the writing which he thought was the most abysmal in the history of the series bar none.

He has told me the stories were so bad that Whitaker didn’t really get a fair shot and has wondered aloud to me if the Whitaker era might have been different with better writing and plots.

The BBC could get away with shit writing and woke scripts because they are state sponsored and even the tanking ratings for Ncuti Gatwa (actually most of them decent stories with a gem or two there) don’t matter because they’re paid for by Disney money.

But Big Finish is not the BBC. They are an actual business that has to attract actual paying customers on the merit of the quality of cast, writing and production values. If they don’t produce a quality product there is no license fee or big corporation to make up the difference. In fact they have to pay the BBC to license Doctor Who so there is an extra base cost right up front.

This has really driven the quality of the writing at big finish which is in my opinion some of the best writing you will fine anywhere. Good writing tends to bring out the best in the cast. In the 16 or so years since I discovered them I can count the number of really bad stories I’d heard on the fingers of one hand with fingers left over.

If the BBC produced episodes with the script and production values of Big Finish during either the Colin Baker or Sylvester McCoy years I submit and suggest that the entire history of the series would be have been re-written. To give you an idea Colin Baker is my youngest son’s favorite Doctor based solely on Big Finish audios which he heard as a teen before he ever saw a single one of his TV episodes.

Jodie Whitaker will now be playing The Doctor supported by a set of quality writers producing quality stories for her with the goal of getting paying customers to buy them. I would be a liar if I didn’t say I’m very curious if given that environment she can pull it off. In fact given the quality of Big Finish I’d actually be surprised if she didn’t.

4th Doctor: The very powerful and the very stupid have one thing in common – they don’t change their views to fit the facts. They change the facts to fit their views, which can be uncomfortable if you happen to be one of the facts that needs changing

Doctor Who: The Face of Evil part 4 1977

You might recall about four months ago (was it really that recent?) the absolute outcry when NBC signed former RNC chair Rona McDaniel as a commentator. McDaniel as you might remember had a success rate electing GOP candidates and promoting the conservative cause comparable with Luigi Vercotti attempts to get Ron Obvious to jump the English Channel or eat Chichester Cathedral and her popularity with the GOP base corresponded to that success making her seemingly the perfect choice as the GOP voice on NBC. But alas the NBC/MSNBC faithful were having none of it:

She’s no Douglas Murray but the slightest possibility that she might threaten the bubble of silence surrounding MSNBC viewers was simply too much for leftists to bear.

You see the MSM decided a while back that they were going to choose as their niche market the far democrat left and a problem with choosing a group of people who primary pushes are for abortion, homosexuality and transgenderism is such a group tend to shrink.

Furthermore when the loudest members of said group are the most radical you find yourself hitting demands to exclude anything that might contradict said groups thus moving farther and farther into a direction to satisfy them and becoming more and more niche till you find yourself locked in an every shrinking bubble unable to to deal with or even unable to acknowledge any reality outside of said bubble.

And when powerful people with a lot of money and influence you know the ones who decide who is welcome at the beautiful parties with the beautiful people who might give you advancement and on whose word your salary is based it becomes easy to rationalize life in the bubble let it harden around you to keep all that unwanted information out.

At least until June 27th 2024 at 9:05 PM EST when reality takes a sledgehammer to the bubble and the walls come crumbling down.

We’ve been writing about the sheer panic among those who saw, particularly among the media who have guarded the bubble diligently (Drew Holden has a detailed post showing HOW diligently) and are now trying to convince people that they were duped idiots rather than collaborators.

This has been punctuated by people suddenly coming out with a whole plethora of evidence of Joe Biden’s decline that they previous withheld.

All of this has become a problem, because now the niche is split and the media doesn’t know which way to go.

Now let me clarify one thing. The niche isn’t split about Joe Biden’s mental acuity all but the most fanatical or ignorant leftists know he is no longer fit to lead, that’s not in question but as I’ve noted that consideration which would be the primary one if they actually cared about American Democracy doesn’t matter. As Alex Berenson put it:

But that’s not the debate among the media trying desperately trying to retain credibility while serving their niche a niche which is now split between those who think the Democrat party’s chances of winning in November are better with Joe Biden on the ticket and those who think keeping him on the ticket will destroy their chances of winning.

THAT is the only thing that matters and the media is desperate to be on the “right” side of that argument, that being the side of the argument which will prevail.

This brings us to yesterday’s news conference.

What the Democrat left and the media really needed was either a commanding Biden demonstrating strength or a slobbering Biden unable to function which would give them a clear direction and reunite their niche. As Frank Fleming put it:

And that is what happened.

It was a lot like the debate, Biden started weak but got stronger and one of his answers on China and chips was actually not bad, however starting on a teleprompter didn’t help and had questioners pre-selected suggests he knew what was coming.

But there were two defining moments that everyone will remember. The first being this:

and after Trump responded online

a second moment when he actually took a shouted question as he was leaving:

Mart Margolas at PJ Media absolutely nailed it:

Make no mistake about it: this was not a great press conference, but it was better than his performance at the debate and his interview with George Stephanopoulos. And that’s a problem for the Democrats. From the perspective of Biden’s campaign, that’s good enough for him to stay in the race.

Joe Biden’s campaign is cratering, and this press conference won’t convince the naysayers that everything is fine — and it won’t convince the holdouts that Biden should go. The situation remains at a stalemate, which means the Democratic Party will continue to be divided over what to do about Joe Biden.

In short it’s the worst of all worlds for the media as every day this isn’t resolved is a day when they have to pick a side which is the worst possible situation for the democrats because as long as this election is about Joe Biden, Trump wins.

Prediction: As soon as one side or the other wins the media will pivot to that side and within a day or two of that moment and by end of whatever week it happens you will never know they thought otherwise.

#unexpectedly of course

Time and again the Republican Party has proved to be its own worst enemy.  Way too often the leadership has snatched defeat from the jaws of victory by behaving rather stupidly, at the worst possible moment.  Examples of this include nominating squishes like Romney and McCain, purging Conervatives from leadership positions, and constantly squabbling with each other.

Just this past week the leadership of the Republican Party executed another of their patented mind numbing blunders.  As happens with astonishing regularity, the Christian satire site Babylon Bee provided very informative and entertaining analysis of the GOP’s latest screw-up: Republican Party Implements Emergency Platform Change After Seeing How Close They Are To Winning Landslide Victory | Babylon Bee

U.S. — With campaigning for November’s elections running at full speed and polls showing GOP candidates building sizeable leads, the Republican Party rushed to implement an emergency platform change after seeing how close they were to winning a landslide victory.

Struggles on the Democratic side of the ticket, including the growing scandal surrounding President Joe Biden’s cognitive ability, led to Republicans gaining tremendous momentum in recent weeks, causing leaders to shift gears and push for changes to the GOP platform in hopes of avoiding any decisive wins in November.

The author of the Babylon Bee article really captures the essence of the Republican Party’s incompetence with some fictitious quotes by the actual chairman of the Republican National Committee Chairman.

“We were just getting way too close to winning big,” said Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Whatley. “Some of these recent polls really got us spooked and concerned that we might actually run away with this thing, so we knew we had to take drastic steps to avoid steamrolling our competition. These changes to our platform should help frustrate, anger, and alienate enough of our loyal voters to make the races a lot closer.”

The updated GOP platform included changes or outright omissions of longstanding Republican stances on abortion and traditional marriage, giving the party the negative reaction it was looking for from lifelong GOP voters. “Thankfully, there’s been some good backlash,” Whatley said. “With any luck, we’ll see our leads start shrinking as we head into the home stretch of these campaigns. We don’t want to do anything that might put us at risk of ensuring total victory.”

It was a sound strategic move when President Trump softened his stance on abortion.  The liberal media was painting him as an extremist on abortion.  That was costing Trump the much needed support of independents.

The abandonment of one of the cornerstones of the Republican Party’s platform is a blunder of epic proportions, especially doing it now that the Republican Party has tremendous momentum..  It is a surrender that will only sow division and acrimony.  As you can see from these headlines, it has already begun in earnest.
