At the moment 22 democrats have voted no, I suspect the speaker will allow at least 33 to do so, keeping at least 5 in reserve.

The reason why they wouldn’t allow a roll call is it makes it harder to give Democrats the “fishbait” option.

Update: They Yea’s are up to 200 watch the Nay vote on the Dem side go up one at a time as they fight over who gets to have cover.

Update 209-196 16 dems left they must really be fighting for the privilege to pretend that they opposed this bill.

Update 2 219 votes, so that no one democrat can be blamed. I guess I won’t be working for a while. Technically the Stupak 6 make the difference.

Update 3 Stupak is now claiming that the Stupak amendment doesn’t protect life. Is claiming that Democrats have ensured that the sanctity of life is protected. Apparently when you choose to go for the big lie you go all in. That line about the democrats being the protectors of life is going to haunt Mr. Stupak for the rest of his political life. The ad writes itself.

Today I have a bone to pick with him. He says something very true about the obamacare bill going through congress:

I am not a liberal Democrat, and you may not be, either. But if we were: Don’t you think we’d be embarrassed at the way Pelosi et al. are going about getting “Obamacare” through? The parliamentary maneuvering, the skullduggery? Especially after Obama and the party at large promised openness, transparency, orderliness, and so on? The Democrats’ legislation would mark a major change in the way we operate in this country. Don’t you think the legislation should be handled with honesty and dignity? Don’t you think that most of the country, or at least a good deal of it, should have a feeling of pride and satisfaction about the process?

Very true and well put but then he hits a pet peeve of mine…

Yes, yes, I know all about “sausage and legislation”

As I wrote to Jay today:

If more laws were made like his (Romano’s) sausages the country would be in fine shape.

When I see that quote in the future I’ll be dropping a small line along with the link to my post on the subject. I hope I have better luck than Tim Blair and the plastic Turkey stuff.

…let the left go on about how freedom is restricted in America, how they were repressed under George W. Bush while in Cuba:

Right now there’s a Cuban Mom in Cuba whom Ive also never met in person but I still consider a Mom who had her son die in one of the regime’s prisons simply because he wanted to be a free man.

Let’s elaborate further:

RTVE reports that there have been at least 25 arrests and/or detentions following the death of Tamayo Zapata for the purpose of preventing their attendance to his funeral.

Let’s be blunt: These people are murderous bastards, the people in congress and Hollywood are supporting them are supporting murderous bastards. The people who are gung ho about closing Gitmo while ready to embrace the actual concentration camp that is the rest of the island are at best ignorant and at worst complicit in the support of murderous bastards.

If you want to know the difference between America and Cuba in real life here it is. If you want to see the difference between a democratic administration and a republican one here it is.

And this little story is enough to make you want to punch the screen.

The elite’s treatment of the Gulag that is Cuba is like watching Kitty Genovese get murdered over and over again.

…concerning my interview with Katherine Jenerette.

I can’t claim to know the facts, being a very long way away, nor do I claim to know the Mrs. Jenerette personally. My contact with her consisted of that interview and of sitting next to her as she had a long pleasant chat with a lady concerning life and children, and showing off pictures of our families. My gut says when someone attempts to personally ruin somebody with a chance for a congressional seat, that sounds very wrong. I think it smells.

What follows is pure speculation…

I’m guessing that she is doing well in a very crowded field, I’m guessing that the only chance that some people have to win is to attempt to bring her down any way they can and if her family has to suffer so be it.

How disgraceful, how disgusting! No single seat of power is worth such tactics and no candidate who uses or endorses such tactics is worthy of any high office. I’d sooner vote for an acolyte of Nancy Pelosi than someone who would use such methods.

And consider, this is a race in South Carolina, I am a Massachusetts Yankee who’s grandparents came from Sicily about 100 years ago. Can my interview and opinion be so critical to the voters of South Carolina that it has to be countered? How desperate must some people be?…

I have always believed the best way to answer speech is more speech but this is a type of thing I’ve seen before and I don’t like it and since comments are moderated I can do something about it.

So here is what is going to happen. If you make a germane argument why this candidate should not be elected, a position you don’t like, a better candidate offered, etc I’ll allow the comment. Any further attempt to hit this lady’s family will not make it past the censor.

And yes this is censorship in the same way that I censor my sons if they use language that is not proper, in the same way that I expect guests in my house to behave with decorum.

I will repeat what I said before: My impression of this lady from the brief time I’ve met her is that she is a fine woman, with a fine family that she is very proud of. A man married to her deserves a handshake. I would be pleased if she was my congresswoman but even happier if she was my neighbor. I don’t know her husband and family but I think I’d like to.

And if you would like another perspective Smitty interviewed her too and likes her. Other than the lapse of allowing me to stay in his house during CPAC, he is a very good judge of Character.
