The Nuclear Zero campaign…

…is very funny.

Of course without Nuclear Weapons millions upon millions of Japanese and Americans would have died in an invasion of Japan in 1945. The Soviet union would likely still be occupying parts of China since the war would have dragged on. The Soviets might not have been deterred in Europe and of course it would not be 37 years since the last full scale multi nation Arab assault on Israel.

When these fools (assuming they are motivated simply by foolishness) can get Nukes out of North Korea then I will consider taking them seriously.

I know remembering history isn’t popular but might one recall how well the naval treaties of the 20’s and 30’s prevented the rise of rogue powers and ruinous wars.

Maybe its because I remember the cold war and who funded the disarmament groups that railed against the US but I suspect the idea that removing the deterrent effect that Nuclear arms on certain nations is a feature not a bug.

…was not about slavery. I maintain and have always maintained that those who make that argument are deceiving themselves and frankly are not reading the material of the time.

Newly Elected Virgina Governor Bob McDonald’s restoration of Confederate History Month, (good idea) coupled with his failure to include the recognition of slavery and it’s evils (incredibly stupid, ridiculous and horrible idea) was a great example of that dynamic in action.

McDonald has since corrected the idiocy by acknowledging his mistake and adding the following to his proclamation:

WHEREAS, it is important for all Virginians to understand that the institution of slavery led to this war and was an evil and inhumane practice that deprived people of their God-given inalienable rights and all Virginians are thankful for its permanent eradication from our borders, and the study of this time period should reflect upon and learn from this painful part of our history;

This has led to some excellent introspection including this quote from Alexander Stephens at the Corner.

Our new government is founded upon exactly the opposite idea; its foundations are laid, its cornerstone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery subordination to the superior race is his natural and normal condition. This, our new government, is the first, in the history of the world, based upon this great physical, philosophical, and moral truth.

The idea of emancipation was so radical when suggested by Irish Pat Cleburne it stopped the advancement of one of the best commanders the Confederates ever had.

To paper this stuff over is to deny reality.

…against any non-nuclear country. What does it mean?

1. First it means that if we choose to use our Nuclear Deterrent it will automatically trigger a nuclear exchange.

2. Secondly it means that any non-nuclear country may decide to take aggressive action knowing that any US response will involve the time it takes to assemble and transport a conventional force to said area.

3. Ok lets say you are a country that counted on US deterrent to help protect them, after this announcement where we limit the use of said deterrent what do we do now? We now start thinking either capitulation or nuking up themselves.

The whole idea of a deterrent is to deter, it is to prevent the need of its use. This is going to do exactly the opposite.

Symbolism over substance, that’s liberalism all over.

Update: Pundit & Pundette bottom lines it with their title:

Do you feel safer now?

That’s what it comes down to.

the Fishbait Miller theory of Nancy Pelosi:

“The Speaker always carries a number of votes in her pocket,” he said, meaning that some members who voted ‘no’ would have voted ‘yes’ if needed.

“I had a number of members who thanked us after because they could vote no.”

I think we should follow Tom Blumer advice on this.

Well, okay Bart, who were these Dems who didn’t have the courage to vote their convictions, and instead wish to go back to their constituents and claim they didn’t support the ObamaCare monstrosity? (crickets …)

Better yet, pal, don’t tell us. It would be much more convenient for November voters to presumptively assume that their no-voting Democratic congressman really was a “yes” until Bart bailed them out. That works for me, and it would work for many other like-minded Americans — which is why the press will more than likely pretend that the CNA-Stupak interview doesn’t exist.

Works for me.
