If this was a tea party…

It would be in the headline rotation of ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC, CNN, Headline News, PBS and BET.

But it is instead the lionized “immigration” marches so it will not make the news:

Close to 20 businesses were damaged after what started as a peaceful immigrants’ rights march in downtown Santa Cruz turned violent, requiring police to call other agencies for help, authorities said.

Police spokesman Zach Friend said an estimated 250 people started marching through the city around 10:30 p.m. Saturday.

It was a harmonious but “unpermitted and unsanctioned event,” he said, until some in the crowd started breaking windows and spraying paint on retail shops that line the downtown corridor.

In other words the crowd was peaceful until it wasn’t.

We hear the left telling us how dangerous Tea Party members are, what will they say about their own?

I think it would be very interesting to call up congressmen who commented on the dangers of the tea party rallies to see what they have to say about events in Santa Cruz.

Voices of the Mayday March: David from Fitchburg

I actually talked to David at the Protest in front of John Olver’s office weeks ago. He was the fellow who disagreed with the Healthcare bill from the left who talked to me while observing the protest.

After the camera was off I met his wife and kids. Very nice people. Also they know my mother and had wonderful things to say about her. Of the people there he had the most moderate views and in conversation he and his wife make some important points. I’ll likely be talking more about David and his family in my next Examiner column so I’ll save my stuff for that.

The one thing I really would like to see is him to attend a tea party and actually talk to the people there. Maybe the next Twin City Tea Party. I think he would be surprised at how he would be received and the views of the people there.

Just back from the immigration rallies in Boston…

…well actually I just finished watching the new Doctor Who by Proxy after I got home from the immigration rallies and let me tell you it was a lot more interesting than the rally.

Several things about it:

The crowd came in several groups. When I got there it was about 10 min of 12 and there were about 150 people there. The primary theme was Marxism/socialism.

Three distinct waves showed up later that brought the totals up to about 300 people.

There was an organized group of anarchists which seems to be an contradiction in terms.

The people there were very polite and the people in charge let me take shots from a few angles behind the stage, they never showed me anything but courtesy.

One bit of advice for people If you are going to stop during your march through the streets don’t give speeches in front of a giant tent that say Circus

Update: At Washington Monthly they ask this question:

Attendance at May 1 events have varied in recent years, but it was just a few years ago when hundreds of thousands of people participated in enormous events demanding change to the immigration status quo. Whether today’s events generate those kinds of crowds remains to be seen.

Well here is the answer, On a beautiful Wednesday two weeks ago 10,000 people showed up on the Boston common at the tea party rallies.

Today on a beautiful Saturday afternoon a whole 300 people showed up. In fact is was a small enough crowed that I was able to actually COUNT them. You tell me which rally was more newsworthy.

I think with all due respect Mr. Breen the question isn’t how Fox will report it. The question is will the MSM inflate the numbers and its importance and suggest it is supported by more people than it actually is.

Question: How tone deaf are the democrats on their new immigration bill?

Imagine my surprise when after writing this post in the morning to see John Cole who I’ve hit in the past saying this:

Apparently they think the outcry over the Arizona “SHOW YOUR PAPERS” bill is that it will only be applied to Hispanics. Polls pretty clearly demonstrate that half the country has no problem with the Arizona bill because it will not affect them- it only is an inconvenience for “others” (meaning brown people). But start talking about a national id with biometric data that everyone has to be issued, and you will think the death panels and health care reform debate were a walk in the park.
