but some things are the same the world over. Athletes who are full of themselves:

Striker Nicolas Anelka was kicked out of France’s World Cup squad for insulting coach Raymond Domenech and refusing to apologise, the French Football Federation said.

Anelka insulted Domenech in a crude manner at half-time of a 2-0 defeat by Mexico on Thursday in Polokwane.

“The comments made by Nicolas Anelka towards national coach Raymond Domenech are totally unacceptable for the French Football Federation, French football and the values they defend,” the FFF said.

It goes to show that pampered athletes transcend borders and cultures.

Now if he wants to get in real trouble back home he can try to hold a wine and sausage event in Paris.

They banned that event so the organizers moved it to the Champs Elysees they still banned it but apparently there are some French who still have backbones.

One man wore a pair of horns and braided pigtails associated with French comic book hero Asterix, an ancient Gaul whose exploits centre around resisting Roman occupation.

“18 June 1940 France, Republic, Liberty, 18 June 2010 Resistance,” read a large banner, with several participants waving French flags and holding aloft sausages.

Atlas has more details and some info on the symbolism of the date:

The idea to gather at the Arc de Triomphe is described by Identity Block as symbolic, since it was where 2,000 schoolboys defied a Nazi ban on protest and marched against the occupying forces some 70 years ago.

Furthermore, today also marked the 70th anniversary of General de Gaulle’s appeal to the French people to resist the Nazi occupation following his exile to the United Kingdom. In the end, the Washington Post reports that some 300-400 protesters turned up this evening.

When someday the tide of Sharia goes out, (and someday it will go out, even in Europe) this event will be remembered and as in the days after 1945 the numbers of the resistance will suddenly swell.

Although I suspect when the tide does go out, I have a feeling it will be because of millions of muslim women who finally cr:y “Enough!”

…I wonder what he will say about these Islamic clerics:

Sheik Yuusuf Abuu Hamza. an official from the city’s Islamist administration confirmed the arrest of world cup fans, accusing them of being guilty against Islam. “They have made a big mistake; they didn’t obey the orders not to watch the un-Islamic event of football so they will face punishment,” the militant official said.

But they can’t be racist, they’re not American. Not to mention the fact that they are Islamic and I’m sure that Mr. Zirin knows the penalty for insulting Islam. Hint it’s not removing PayPal privileges.

Via Tim Blair who Zirin will have no problem calling a racist for this great snark:

They’re a notably cruel bunch. Maybe they’ll make them watch it again.

All kidding aside at Blair’s link there is even worse on the subject.

Speaking of Blair I wonder if they are playing under Canadian rules?

…and pretend that nothing is wrong thinks like this happen:

But Medina, whose real name is Andrea Fuentealba Valbak, didn’t get to sing more than a few notes before a hail of eggs began to rain down upon the stage. The perpetrators, reports tabloid B.T., were a gang of between 10 and 20 youngsters between the ages of 14 and 17 all ‘with an immigrant background’.

Their reason for attacking the songstress? Apart from taking exception to Medina’s hot pants and sexually suggestive song lyrics, it appears that the gang were provoked by the singer’s stage name which is also coincidentally the name of the second holiest city in Islam and the burial place of the Prophet Mohammed.

With the backing of most of the 3,000 strong audience, Medina ripped into the trouble-makers and told them that their behaviour was disrupting the concert for everyone else. But the strain took its toll, and the pop star ended up leaving the stage in tears.

They are referred to as “youths”, but in the end the Danes who choose not to rock the boat when stuff like this started to happen now better get used to stuff like this, because if something doesn’t change fast Denmark will be just one of many countries living under Islamic law.

And when that happens BTW we won’t have to worry about an Islamic Iran with a bomb, we will have to worry about an Islamic France and England with the bomb.

Yesterday my brother picked me up at the airport and we as before went to Prince Pizza. As always the pizza was great and this time I didn’t overeat so there was no pain later.

We had three very pleasant encounters in the place. The first with the former owners of what was my wife’s family’s favorite pizza place in the North End, the European. He and his wife and children were there eating and we struck up a conversation. The 90 year old gentleman came to the US in 1928 and like Annie DiMartino on election talked of the how good America had been to him. It was my great honor to speak with them and I hope to see them at the Madonna della Cava festival in Aug at St. Anthony di Padua. (P.S. For some reason I can’t find the e-mail address you gave me, If you can contact me via comments I’ll be happy to send you that item we discussed).

The third was with a two couples who are engaged who all believed my much older brother was much younger than me. She talked about her oldest graduating college and their impending nuptials. I wish all of them my best.

But it was the second that really struck me. It was a husband and wife with two sons. The parents had been born in India but had migrated to the US and both their children were born and raised here. They came here for a better life and talked the same language that the gentleman who came from Italy in 1920 did, hard work opportunity, and talked about education and how their parents emphasized it as the way to a better life. Apart from two things they could have been my grandparents. The first was their age, a bit younger than me, the second was their religion, they where Muslims.

I have written a lot about radical Islam who are the worst that Islam has to offer, these people were examples of the best. It was a great pleasure to meet and know them. It is Muslim men and woman like them and their families who become Americans that are the best hope to keep us away from a very nasty future.
