Four years ago when I re-endorsed Donald Trump after the Billy Bush tape dropped I posed this question to Jonah Goldberg:

Update 4: I respect Jonah Goldberg whose point is valid:

Either way, this video is not an aberration. It is not a special circumstance. It’s him. There’s no pivot in him. There’s no “presidential” switch to flip. He’s Donald Trump all the way down.

However given the reality that either Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton will be the next president of the United States I ask Jonah this question:

If we concede that Donald Trump’s character is bad, Would it be better for the country to have a President of poor character who will be under intense scrutiny by the press, pols and law enforcement agencies (Trump) or to have a President of poor character who will be given a pass and or defended by the press, the pols and apparently the FBI regardless of what they say or do (Hillary).

I submit and suggest the answer is clearly the former.

Now it’s four years later and on twitter a general question was asked as to why one supports Donald Trump for President. This was my answer:

However there are others who have a much dimmer opinion of the president & his accomplishment who find themselves in the Trump column this time around for completely different reasons:

While I have issues with some of the characterizations in this thread the primary point that is being made is rather critical

When it comes to the media/left is has now been amply demonstrated that DaTechGuy’s Laws of media outrage are in full force and no action by a Democrat, by the Democrat Party or even by people who are part of the Democrat base may be critiqued or highlighted if it might reflect badly on the potential return of Democrats to power or the maintenance of said power if it happens. And as Glenn Reynolds pointed out this view is not confined to pols and press:

It’s disappointing to see not just the usual gang of idiots, but also some people who should know better joining the hysteria here. As I said before, we had elections during the Civil War and there’s no need to delay them now. But once again, just because a tweet — or other presidential action — riles up the political class doesn’t make it an impeachable offense. And if our political class had been as dedicated to actually defending decency, decorum and tradition as it is determined to weaponize them against Trump, we wouldn’t have gotten Trump.

Amusingly on Facebook where this was originally posted, one person explicitly agrees with Steve Matthews’ legal argument — except for Trump. Because #OrangeManBad. Rule of law!

Put simply we now know that if the Democrats in general and Joe Biden in particular are given the reins of government, no action they take will be subject to critique by the mainstream media in print or television (except perhaps a 30 second segment at the end of Jake Tappers show to throw us a crumb).

However we can be assured that if Donald Trump is reelected, his words, his deeds, his facial expressions, his companies, their business dealings, his family and even his passing of gas will be scrutinized by this press to a level that will be the envy of the Chinese Totalitarian state (and likely financed by it too).

The bottom line is clear, if you don’t trust government and what to be sure that the press shines a bright light on anything it does, you need to re-elect Donald Trump.

If you however are a relative of a Democrat pol or of a large Democrat donor and want to be sure that you can get rich either off the taxpayer’s dime or via foreign money contributed to you as a favor. Well vote democrat.

Your call people.

Data: You will surrender yourself to the authorities.
Fajo: Or what? You’ll fire? Empty threat and we both know it. Why don’t you accept your fate? You will return to your chair and you will sit there. You will entertain me and you will entertain my guests. And if you do not, I will simply kill somebody else. Him, perhaps. It doesn’t matter. Their blood will be on your hands too, just like poor Varria’s. Your only alternative, Data, is to fire. Murder me. That’s all you have to do. Go ahead. Fire. If only you could feel rage over Varria’s death. If only you could feel the need for revenge, then maybe you could fire. But you’re just an android. You can’t feel anything, can you? It’s just another interesting intellectual puzzle for you. Another of life’s curiosities.
Data: I cannot permit this to continue. [He levels the disrupter at Fajo]
Fajo: Wait. Your program won’t allow you to fire. You cannot fire. No!

As a general rule all elections are shades of gray. While some issues like abortion are Sine Qua Non for some voters like me as a rule

This one is not.

We have seen riots in the streets, we have seen monuments of people from Grant to St. Junipo Sera defaces. We have violence and threats of violence and attempts to provoke it. We’ve seen the actual takeover of a section of a city and 30,000 people deprived of their civil rights by a Mayor and Governor more interested in defending their violent base and scoring a point against the President than defending the rights of those citizens.

And throughout it all we have seen a media do all they can to minimize deflect and deceive in order to keep these fact from the American people concerning these events, with a lot of help from big tech and those who control our social networks city.

The president put it on the line during his Tulsa speech:

If the Democrats gain power, than the rioters will be in charge and no one will be safe and no one will have control. Joe Biden is not the leader of his party. Joe Biden is a helpless puppet of the radical left, and he’s not radical left. I don’t think he knows what he is anymore, but he was never radical left, but he’s controlled by the radical left, and now he’s really controlled. His campaign staff even donated a lot of money to bail out rioters, looters and arsonists who ravaged Minneapolis. They bailed them out, they put up a lot of money to bail them out, the rioters, the looters and they were, they were the arsonists. They’ll say, “Oh, it’s terrible what he says about the people of our nation.” Maybe some of them aren’t even from our nation. The leftists try to do everything they can to stop us. Every hour of every day, including even violence and mayhem, they’ll do anything they can to stop us. Look what happened tonight. Look at what happened tonight. Law enforcement said, “Sir, they can’t be outside. It’s too dangerous.” We had a bunch of maniacs come and sort of attack our city.

That’s the stakes here. It’s impossible to pretend otherwise, the American people are in the same sport that the children of Israel were when Moses gave his final speech before his death.

Here, then, I have today set before you life and prosperity, death and doom. If you obey the commandments of the LORD, your God, which I enjoin on you today, loving him, and walking in his ways, and keeping his commandments, statutes and decrees, you will live and grow numerous, and the LORD, your God, will bless you in the land you are entering to occupy. If, however, you turn away your hearts and will not listen, but are led astray and adore and serve other gods, I tell you now that you will certainly perish; you will not have a long life on the land which you are crossing the Jordan to enter and occupy. I call heaven and earth today to witness against you: I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. Choose life, then, that you and your descendants may live,

Deuteronomy 30:15-19

We know what the stakes are, but what’s more important is they are the same stakes that I saw four years ago during my initial endorsement of Donald Trump just before the GOP convention:

I think that the sight of women and gay men being beaten by leftists because they support the presumptive GOP nominee, having it happen in full sight of police ordered to do nothing AND SEEING THOSE OFFICERS CHOOSING TO LET THEM BE BEATEN means that they can not count on the authorities to obey their oaths of office if they think doing so might cost them their jobs.

Even worse than this is the obvious question it raises: If leftists are willing to resort to violence and boast about it before an election when it might hurt their ability to persuade the people to vote for them, how much more willing will they be to violently suppress their political foes when such behavior is rewarded with electoral victory by the people?

emphasis mine

Do you think that these people who have been willing to commit violence all over the country are going to be more restrained when the executive and police powers are in control of their political allies? How safe have Democrat cities been?

If the Democrats are elected you are giving your consent not to be represented by the people you elect subject to your will, you are giving your consent to be ruled by people who are willing to use thugs to keep you in line. Remember once you vote in the mob, you can’t vote them out.

I keep seeing this poll and that poll that the Democrats are thinking of replacing Joe Biden on the ticket for the nomination. This entire argument reminds me of the great debate on sports radio locally concerning the New England Patriots and 2nd year quarterback Jarrett Stidham.

Stidham was drafted last year as Tom Brady’s quarterback backup and once Brady signed with Tampa Bay, there was speculation that New England would sign one of the available QB’s out there from Cam Newton Jameis Winston or even trade up in the draft in the hopes of getting a new QB this year.

But Bill Belichick decided to stand pat. After all he had struck paydirt with a 6th round pick who turned out to be the greatest QB of all time, and two of his recent QB drafts had started for the Colts and 49ers last year so my not go with the young arm?

But the real question to me come down to: “How much better would the Patriots be in 2020 with an expensive free agent who would have to learn the system that Stidham has been training in for a year?”

I suspect the answer is, not much if at all.

And that brings us to Joe Biden.

There are plenty of reasons why it would be tough for Democrats to pull Biden post Tara Reade:

  • Overturning a series of elections
  • Upsetting vital black voters who turned out in force for Biden
  • Causing a divided convention
  • Risking an un-vetted nominee or worse Bernie Sanders

All of these are valid reasons for the Democrats to stand part, particularly when you see prominent democrat women saying that they thought Biden did it, but will vote for him anyways.

But beyond that the real question is the same one that the Patriots had to ask with Stidham: “Will a replacement do any better in the fall?”

In my opinion the honest answer to that question is: No.

The Democrats will lose just as badly with Biden as they will with anyone else, so they’d might as well stick with fast hands Joe. At least that’s where they are now.

As long as that is the Democrat equation, Joe Biden stays.

On tonight’s livestream podcast we talk about the reaction to the Joe Biden Tara Reade story finally breaking into the MSM and the apparent “shoot someone of 5th avenue moment it’s become for the left.
