In some Conservative circles Libertarians are not too popular. The reverse is also true.  For quite a while I’ve been at a loss for why this is true.  I’ve studied both political philosophies in great detail, and they are very similar.  The adherents of both camps share more than 90 percent of the same key beliefs. 

Individual Rights and Individual Liberty are cornerstones of both Libertarianism and Conservativism.  That is the direct opposite of all leftist philosophies, whether it be Liberalism, Progressivism, Socialism, Fascism, or Communism.  All those Collectivist philosophies place thr supreme value of the State over the individual.

Free Market Capitalism is another cornerstone of both Conservatism and Libertarianism.  Contrast that with the socialist economic policies of the Democratic Party.

Both Conservatives and Libertarians truly value the Constitution and founding principles of the United States.  Democrats despise both of these.

Rather than unite against our leftist common enemies, we Conservatives and Libertarians seem to be engaged in a low level guerilla war on social media.  This has bothered me for quite a while.  Just the other day I finally realized why this is taking place. 

At the root of this conflict is the fact that far too many individuals who identify as Libertarians have no idea what the word actually means.  Some identify as a Libertarian because they think the words sounds cool.  Others identify as Libertarians because they have a distorted understanding of this philosophy.

Many who identify as Libertarian believe that it a watered down version of Liberalism or Progressivism. That is most untrue.  If you plot all political philosophies on a graph, Libertarianism is even further to the right than Conservatism because Libertarians place more of emphasis on individual liberty.

The concept of liberty is at the very core of the Libertarian philosophy.  Liberty does not equal freedom, although freedom is at the root of liberty.  If you combine responsibility with freedom, then you get liberty.

The framers of the Constitution defined liberty as the freedom to do as you wish as long as you do no harm to any other individual, or interfere with the rights of another individual.  It is freedom with the responsibility to do no harm to others.  Libertarians must respect the rights of all other individuals.

The framers of the Constitution considered Individual Liberty to be the very bedrock of our constitutional republic.  Our Constitution was written to protect the liberty of every individual American. 

A true Libertarian believes that protecting the lives and liberty of every individual are the only valid powers of any level of government, if governments do more then they will trample the liberty of individuals.

To prevent a libertarian society from descending into violence and chaos, individuals must restrain themselves.  Christian morality was believed by the framers of the Constitution to be the perfect mechanism to achieve this, as long as no individuals were forced to join a religion.

For a society to functions and thrive there must exist social and cultural institutions.  Libertarians believe that governments must play no role in these institutions, they must be voluntary.  According to what I’ve seen, Conservatives believe that governments and laws should play a role in protecting institutions.  It is a minor issue of disagreement.

The family is one of the most important institutions.  Anything that is harmful to the family must be discouraged and fought against.  Libertarians and Conservatives should make this a common cause.

Progressivism is about using all levels of government to force their beliefs on everyone.  That violates the liberty of every individual.  The belief system of progressives is extremely hostile to the social and cultural institutions that are necessary. Conservatives and Libertarians should join forces to preserve these social and cultural institutions, especially the family.

The Transgender Ideology of Progressives is one of the belief systems that Progressives are using all levels of government to cram down the throats of all Americans.  It is a belief system that is harmful to social and cultural institutions.  It is most harmful to children who are being indoctrinated into believing they are the wrong gender. 

As a Libertarian I believe individuals have a right to identify as what ever they want to.  However, no one has a right to force me, or any other individual, to play along with any other individual’s delusions.  Using government to force all of society to play along is wrong and anti-liberty.

I’m almost 100 percent sure that single sex bathrooms, and similar facilities, were set up by social compact, and then later codified into laws.  It was done for the safety, privacy, and modesty of the female sex.  Progressives are using government force to overturn this, against the wishes of the vast majority of individuals.

I am a true Libertarian.  I have a great many Conservative friends.  I constantly talk politics with them.  We agree well over 90 percent of the time.  When we don’t we both respect each other’s point of view.  We are united against Progressivism, and all other collectivist philosophies.  With the Democrats destroying the United States, I suggest other Conservatives and Libertarians should follow my lead. 

I’m living in midsized town called Webster Massachusetts.  Because of the Coronavirus lockdowns the Memorial Day parade was canceled in my town along with fireworks on July 4th.  The local high school canceled graduation.  Businesses were forced to close.  There are three Catholic Churches here, along with a Baptist Church, and several other denominations; all of which have not held services for months. While all of this was not going on a Black Lives Matter protest was held. 

I have no problem with the Black Lives Matter protest being held in my town even though I have many issues with the sponsoring organization, mainly their connection with many attacks on police officers, their anti police officer message, and their Marxist message.  I completely support their right to hold protests and to spread their message.  It bothers me greatly that all of us locals are denied so many of our most fundamental rights while an outside group was able to exercise their rights.

This type of injustice is going on all across this great nation.  Yes free speech and freedom to assemble are such fundamental rights that they are listed in the First Amendment.  The right of all of us to attend which ever church service we wish to as often as we wish is also listed in the First Amendment. 

The right of all of us to do as we please, to come and go as we please, to work where we please, and to run what type of business we want to are all covered under liberty. This most fundamental right is being denied to tens of millions across this nation.   Some individuals are allowed to come and go because they are deemed essential workers, and some businesses are allowed to open because they are classified as essential.  Far too often these classifications do not make sense.  They are made for political reasons.  Governments should never pick and choose winners and losers.  Liberty is a fundamental right that can only be denied to individuals who have been found guilty in a court of law

The Black Lives protests are welcomed by local and state officials.  Conservative groups in many states held protests against the unjust lockdowns.   Were these anti lockdown protests welcomed as warmly?  Were any conservative protests denied or harassed?  I haven’t heard of any instances of conservative permits being denied or harassment but I’m guessing they happened.  If you are aware of any please let me know in the comments.

These lockdowns are unjust along with the business closings.  It is wall past time to restore the liberty and rights of everyone in the United States by opening every state back fully.

Abortion violates every component of the most often quoted sentence from the Declaration of Independence:

We hold these truths to be self-evident: That all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness

Abortion is anti-life because abortion is murder.  It is a particularly heinous form of murder because the unborn child is the most innocent example of life you could possibly ever encounter.   Every individual is endowed by their creator with unalienable rights because all are endowed by God with a soul at conception.  Most genocides have occurred after a government has denied that certain individuals do possess a soul, abortion is another one of those genocides. 

I’ve been told by many self-identified libertarians that true libertarians must support the right of everyone to choose an abortion.  This is the position maintained by more than a few libertarian websites and organizations.  Many individuals have told me that I am not a libertarian because I believe abortion is murder, therefore, no one has a right to an abortion.  This happens even though I agree with those libertarians on every other key philosophical point.  If all libertarians had a proper understanding of the terms libertarian and liberty they would see that there is one correct philosophical side to the abortion debate, and that is the side I occupy.

A libertarian is someone who believes that the ideal of liberty should be their guiding principle, and the guiding principle at all levels of government in the United States.  That was precisely the guiding principle of the founding fathers of this nation. 

A great many believe that liberty is the freedom to do as you please.  They are mistaken.  Liberty is the freedom to do as you want as long as you do not hurt others or interfere with the rights of others.   Liberty is freedom with the responsibility to do no harm to others.  The responsibility portion of liberty was stressed by the founding fathers of the United States.  Because the fetus is murdered it is greatly harmed during the abortion. 

The fact the fetus is harmed during the abortion is a violation of the entire concept of liberty.   As a result of the abortion the rights of the fetus are destroyed which is also a violation of liberty.  Because all of the concepts of liberty are violated, abortion violates the entirety of the libertarian philosophy.

When it comes to libertarians who are strongly pro-life I’m in good company.  Here are two quotes from Dr. Ron Paul:

Abortion on demand is the ultimate State tyranny; the State simply declares that certain classes of human beings are not persons, and therefore not entitled to the protection of the law. The State protects the “right” of some people to kill others, just as the courts protected the “property rights” of slave masters in their slaves. Moreover, by this method the State achieves a goal common to all totalitarian regimes: it sets us against each other, so that our energies are spent in the struggle between State-created classes, rather than in freeing all individuals from the State. Unlike Nazi Germany, which forcibly sent millions to the gas chambers (as well as forcing abortion and sterilization upon many more), the new regime has enlisted the assistance of millions of people to act as its agents in carrying out a program of mass murder.

As an O.B. doctor of thirty years, and having delivered 4,000 babies, I can assure you life begins at conception. I am legally responsible for the unborn, no matter what I do, so there’s a legal life there. The unborn has inheritance rights, and if there’s an injury or a killing, there is a legal entity. There is no doubt about it.

Abortion being anti pursuit of happiness is obvious, an aborted unborn child will never be able to pursue any form of happiness.
