It seems to have gone from: “The courageous stand of Barack Obama” to “What is the face saving compromise that will solve this problem?”

Apparently the old template is not doing the job anymore.

You know if we had just rebuilt the towers with AA guns on top 5 years ago I bet nobody in the country would care where the Mosque was.

…no not on the right and wrong of the mosque, but he is correct that Gingrich is more about selling books and becoming a permanent voice.

That doesn’t mean that Newt doesn’t believe that the mosque is wrong but he is taking advantage of this for other reasons.

Pat is also right bringing up Sarah Palin likely “Neut”-tralizing Gingrich if she runs.

What Joe hasn’t figured out is that Americans understand this position and what it means, but the elites can’t wrap their heads around it because of their sensitivity meters. Joe understands and says that most Americans would like to see the mosque elsewhere but doesn’t dare vocalize why the majority of Americans aren’t bigots or ignorant for that opinion so.

I was taking my mother with me to visit my son in the Hospital yesterday and I mentioned the president’s position and the level of disgust she had for the president was incredible on this issue.

His previous positions had already caused her to leave the Democratic party that she had been part of for over 60 years. As part of the WW 2 generation this hits her where she lives.

Pity the media who want to support their man in the White House but really can’t tell their customer base what they actually think of them.

The moment I said this Chuck Todd suggests the American People “Aren’t mature enough.” This is what is lovingly called a “gaffe” actually saying what you think aloud.

Doing the job the main stream media is is paid for but apparently chooses not to I spent 15 minutes talking with Republican Candidate for Ca-36 Mattie Fein:

On The Torrance Daily Breeze’s decision to not cover the campaign:

“I’m Concerned, this isn’t about looking for favorable coverage, it’s about looking for fair play. There are serious issues in the district and the voters deserve the issues on the table.”

The Irony of the Daily Breeze belittling her concerns over Harmon’s purchase of a Whopper Jr Newsweek while otherwise ignoring her campaign is not lost on her.

On Jane Harman Ducking her:

Jane Harman said she understood that the seat she has held for 16 years is not an entitlement but has ducked our attempts to debate her and avoided town hall meetings within our own district. We have also sent a letter to the Torrance Daily Breeze about sponsoring such debates, we have not received a reply.

On the Issues in the District:

Jobs is the issue, people are concerned about their jobs and the job situation of their families and friends. We have also heard from Democrats who have expressed concern about Harmon’s rough relationship with the speaker and its effects on the district

On how she has been received:

We are very excited by the response we have gotten at events from the voters. Democrats, Republicans and undeclared voters are in the district are ready for change

Shades of Ma-01. A democratic district with an incumbent who has held office for nearly two decades and a dynamic candidate (Bill Gunn) shaking things up. The difference? The local papers don’t leave the coverage of the race to bloggers 3000 miles away.

Update: Photo added courtesy of Robert Stacy McCain. How bad is it when my fedora has more of a presence in a California congressional race than the local paper?

It’s all in the wording

While scanning memeorandum for interesting stories today, the thing that caught my eye was not so much the stories but the headlines. Observe:

It's all in the spin

This is a screen shot of Memeorandum at about 7:30 a.m. of all the stories concerning the Judge’s ruling on a stay in the Prop 8 case. Ignore the actual words of the stories and look simply at the headlines. From simply the headlines you could not be sure how the judge actually ruled.

Each of the headlines is factually accurate, each one describes the same event but you would never know it just from that look.

This, even more than Ace’s screed about media spin reminds us that a writer can spin any event to deliver the desired message to the reader. So when scanning headlines let the reader beware because on the other end of that jump to a-13 the actual story might be hiding.
