I know I’m beating a dead horse here, but never forget that in a representative republic we always get the government we deserve.

We as a nation let ourselves be taken and voted for President Obama when his voting record, beliefs etc were all out there. In an information age we decided to ignore the info.

Conservatives sat on their hands and decided to teach the republican party a lesson, well here is a lesson for you, congress will still get first rate health care, it is you conservatives who decided that John McCain was too liberal who will see your care change, but you are not alone. You republicans who considered Sarah Palin’s populism so bad for the country that nothing could be worse, try socialized medicine on a grand scale.

David Frum’s idiocy not withstanding (I guess he hasn’t recovered from the free beer party at CPAC yet) only the conservative Tea Party movement prevented this lemon from passing a year ago but even that awakening is likely not going to be enough to make the difference.

As a nation we elected these people to make our laws. As a nation we will live and die (literally in this case) with this decision. We are responsible and we are going to pay.

Like other great changes it will take a generation for the full impact to be seen but it will be, and our current issues with the healthcare system will be a walk in the park compared to this.

Update: I disagree with Phil Klein. I don’t blame Bush. His primary issue and duty was victory in the war and he provided it. I suspect that a lot of the reason he let some of this spending through was to provide victory in the war.

With Iraq safely won it is easy to through rocks and George Bush, but let me tell you, although I don’t think this will be repealed it is a lot better to have a bad bill to repeal than to have to recover from a lost war.

We start our trip around my blogroll with a little coffee at Ruby Slippers, a blog I really should be linking to more often. Mary Sue had this to say about the Coffee parties that CNN was so impressed with:

So, just how strong were these coffee party gatherings? One might describe them as intimate. North Carolina had all of five people show up An estimated crowd of 3000 protested today in Minnesota. What’s a couple thousand people though? CNN reports the two groups have much more in common besides their group strength, that is. Do they now?

Well both groups are made up of carbon based life forms that are made in the image of God that depend on the intake of oxygen to survive and are named after breakfast beverages, but beyond that I don’t see much. It is simply a truism that any group of any size that supports a cause that the MSM agrees with is more newsworthy than any group 50,000 times as large that they do not. It’s why the media is slowing starting to resemble a salesman who can only sell his wares to relatives.

Over at Legal Insurrection Bill Jacobson finds that one little word that would have saved Eric Massa his seat:

Timing is everything. Only recently, when it became clear that a single vote in the House may be the difference, was there a whispering campaign and leaks about Massa.

Massa’s departure has made it easier for Nancy Pelosi to get the necessary votes because the vote will be that close. If Obamacare passes later this week, as Pelosi is predicting, the departure of Eric Massa may be the reason.

Eric Massa may be paranoid, but that does not change the truth that people in the Democratic Party who wanted to pass Obamacare really did hate him.

Ask yourself this question: If Eric Massa had announced that he would vote “Yes” on Obamacare, would he still be in Congress?

Does he mean to suggest that Nancy Pelosi and company might actually consider letting someone stay in congress who is undeserving just to gain a vote? Why that’s a shocking suggestion. If you believe that then you’d believe that democrats would allow someone with tax issues to be treasury secretary or allow a person with irregularities to chair an important financial committee.

Finally Big Hollywood notes Megan Mullally’s shock at Jay Leno’s decision to appeal to a segment of the population hitherto ignored by the Hollywood elites:

She recently blasted former Gov. Sarah Palin’s stand-up comedy debut on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” at movieline.com, mocking both Leno’s comedy bits and his attempt to woo conservative audiences.

“Could it be any more bald-faced that he’s going after the red states? It’s insane. It’s just right out there, full on … amazing. And she was wearing jeans [note: said with a drawn out snarl]. ‘I’m gonna wear denim! I’m gonna dress it down!’”

Sounds insane, all right. Why would the host of a popular late night show give a platform to a gorgeous, charismatic politician who appeals to a wide swath of viewers?

Yeah, having a best selling author who commands large audiences wherever she goes makes no sense. Does Jay actually think it will get him to #1 in late-night again? After all appealing to conservatives hasn’t done Fox any good in the ratings has it?

Why am I not surprised by this story about Mitt Romeny’s debut…

…on the NYT best seller list?

Whenever the NY Times places a “dagger” symbol next to a book, it signifies that “some bookstores report[ed] receiving bulk orders” for the book.

The NY Times placed not just one, but two, daggers next to Romney’s book. You can draw your own conclusion as to who it was that purchased Governor Romney’s book in bulk.

By contrast, the NY Times failed to place the “dagger” symbol next to Governor Palin’s book in any of the weeks she held the top position on the NY Times best-seller list among non-fiction hardcover books. Despite the left’s unsubstantiated theories, bookstores did not report to the NY Times that they received bulk orders for Going Rogue. See week 1, week 2, week 3, week 4, week 5, and week 6. As you can see, in none of these weeks is there a dagger symbol next to her book

I have NEVER heard anyone speak of Mitt Romney with anything resembling excitement and I live in Massachusetts.

BTW it is worth noting that Sarah Palin’s book is STILL on the list (at 34) after 17 weeks.

I take exception to Marc Armbinder’s comparison of Romney to Roger Maris. It is unfair to Maris who actually was able to hit his 61 under normal game conditions and won 3 World Series. Maybe it would be fairer to compare it to McGwire or Barry Bonds instead.

This is amateur night stuff, and this guy wants to be president? The blowback on this is going to be much worse that the positive press he got when the debut first was reported. Bad form Governor, bad form.

Anyone care to make book on how long it takes Romney to fall off?

Update: It is worth noting that Sarah Palin’s book is still ranked in the top 150, 143 at Amazon as of this morning, while Mitt’s newly released book is at 43, only 100 spots ahead.

…speaking of that election day in 2008

…I was very concerned about the election because of then candidate’s Obama’s promises concerning the war. So concerned that I actually showed up at the polling station, (the same spot where Stacy and I interviewed voters in January) with a McCain Palin sign first thing in the morning and stayed there for most of the day. It being Massachusetts 15 months BSB (Before Scott Brown) there was no organized effort, I just kinda did it on my own.

You’ve never seen surprise on peoples faces like you saw when they turned into the lot to see that McCain/Palin sign. I got quite a few thumbs up and at least one “you’ve got to be kidding” from people, but the end result was within two hours a lady came down to hold an Obama/Biden sign to counter me. (We chatted and have run into each other on at various city events since then becoming friends. She is widowed to a person who was quite active in the democratic party and has stayed involved).

I stayed after she left and then a friend of mine who came to vote, saw me, took my extra sign and held it as well.

Who knew we were 14 months ahead of our time in the state?
