…was in charge of Iraqi airspace in 1981?

Answer: Either George Bush would have been fighting a Nuclear Iraq ten years later OR

Saddam would be in power and in charge of Kuwait (and maybe Saudi Arabia) as we speak.

And that is the Best case Scenario!

Exit question: If Carter had won in 1980 and retained Brzezinski would the same result as above have taken place even without airspace control? In fact would we be talking about the upcoming 20th anniversary of the fall of the berlin wall? Inquiring minds like Rush Limbaugh honorary lizzardoid want to know!

(Sorry Mika I know it’s your dad but that’s just the way it is.)

Speaking more of the Missile stuff it also a question of the deterrent value I have another question. What is the actual goal? If the goal is deterrence that you might not get what you are paying for. Consider the following:

Situation A: There are missiles deployed in and controlled by Poland and a threat (any threat) comes up. It is a question of Poland defending itself. It can employ it’s defense on their own terms. It doesn’t have to involve the US at all in terms of blood and treasure once they are deployed.

Situation B: The missiles are on a US ship and a threat comes up. It then becomes a question of the United States opening fire on another nation and all the political and geopolitical ramifications involved therein.

Not only are the costs greater for us, but if we decide that for whatever reason we don’t want to pay them, Poland is screwed.

If the goal is actual deterrence then situation A is better than situation B no matter what the technology is.

However if the goal is to appease Russia and Putin then it’s a great plan, but hey not to worry they said it’s ok and it’s not like the Pols think we are selling them out or something. Oh wait:

Strategic ally? Mainstay of our security? End of illusions. United States of America, for which we have for each call, turned his back to us. U.S. President lightly tossed into the trash heap construction of the Poland and the Czech anti-missile shield. The massive military installation was to give special meaning to us in NATO and to strengthen our position towards Russia. But America, instead of Warsaw, he prefers dialogue with Moscow. Yesterday the whole world went round decision Barack Obama Kremlin triumphs, and the Poles have been exposed to the wind.

Hey maybe it’s the Buchanan “Don’t defend Poland and WWII is a fight between Hitler and Russia” plan all over again! Change we can believe in!

Well I’m sure we can straighten it out with the Polish Prime minister, if we was willing to take our calls that is.

After a pretty good week the president is off the wagon:

The Obama administration will scrap the controversial missile defense shield program in Eastern Europe, a senior administration official confirmed to CNN Thursday.

I’d keep an eye on Sarah Palin’s facebook page, this one is a fat pitch over the plate.

Lets cut to the Chase, Gates blather not withstanding the reason why the shipboard option is bad is because it is not actually in the country being protected so they have absolutely no control over their own defense or the decision to actually defend themselves.

This kind of stuff is sure going to provide an incentive for countries to be allied with us isn’t it?

That’s as Carter as you can get:

Carter 15 Arthur 9

This is a full You Fool moment:

Exit question: Is this the price from Russia keeping nukes out of Chavez’s hands and is this administration stupid enough to believe him? Can they learn from President Bush’s mistake concerning Vlad?

Update: Nothing on facebook yet but Conservatives for Palin has an awesome title post:

America’s New Foreign Policy – Speak Softly And Carry A Big “Kick Me” Sign……

Pretty good.

I saw the last quarter of the Pats Bills game and couldn’t believe my eyes:

With a 5 point lead and possession and 2:10 on the clock even I know to take the knee in the end zone and make the pats use the time outs and stop the team defensively, particularly when my quarterback has just driven the length of the field eating up 5 min.

Instead the pats got the ball and drove for the winning touchdown. And commented thusly:

“I chose to bring it out because that’s me,” McKelvin said in a sombre locker-room. “If I had that choice, probably 100 times, I’d do it again. Next time I get the opportunity, I’ve just got to do my job and make sure I hold onto the ball.”

Then again he also said this elsewhere:

“When I caught the ball, I didn’t know if I had two feet inbounds or if my momentum took me into the end zone. If I downed it, it may have been a safety. So I decided to bring it out.”

I wonder which one he said first?
