An interesting twist in Vt

I’ve already stated that while I disagree with the whole “Gay marriage” argument that Vt. acceptance of it by the normal legislative procedure is just as acceptable as any other law I disagree with that is passed. The people have spoken and unless they speak differently that’s the law. That is how a republic works.

Maggie Gallagher a staunch defender of actual marriage finds one silver lining in the Green Mountain State:

the Vermont same-sex marriage bill was a breakthrough in another way that has received zero attention in the press: For the very first time, a legislature has formally acknowledged that gay marriage poses a serious threat to the religious liberties of Vermonters who disagree with the government’s new definition of marriage; and the gay marriage movement has permitted — if not exactly trumpeted — that legislature’s enactment of some imperfect, yet substantive, religious-liberty protections, rather than the “fake religious liberty protections” generally offered to deflect voters’ attention from the real issues at stake.

Unlike the magically discovered “right” that courts have pushed, freedom of religion is explicitly listed in the bill of rights, right in the very first amendment. It is very wise that Vt. make it a point to respect this.

Keep at least 5-10 mill in reserve or you might spend two hours on game night re-drawing cards and hoping for the best.
