I apologize, I had previously stated that I’d give you the lyrics of my parody song “Don’t Mess With God” (sung to the tune of “Don’t Bring Me Down”) if the Catholic Hating Dodgers got bounced from the playoffs quickly but I think the time has passed.

I will however note that the Texas Rangers who won their first ever world series against a gritty Arizona Diamondbacks team four games to one were not just the only MLB team not to have a “Pride Night” (meaning gay pride) in their stadium, but did not lose a game in the playoffs in any MLB park that hosted one.

The only sad thing, the great Frank Howard didn’t live to see them win.

You might recall I hit the Celtics hard for their trade of Marcus Smart noting that on a team devoid of balls he had the most.

Well the Celtics who got rid of Smart and both Williams and Brogdon and replaced them with Kristaps Porzingas and Jrue Holiday have yet to lose a game in four tries while the teams involved in these trades are a combined 4-13 with the Memphis Grizzlies who got Smart yet to win one in six tries.

So I guess a mea culpa is in order but I’ll hold off the mea maxima culpa for now because Porzingas has a long history of injuries and we’re just under 5% into the season.

If he plays in 95% of the games then we’ll go to the max.

The Patriots made no moves at the trade deadline and while that doesn’t sit well with a lot of the Boston media I’m fine with it for a few reasons:

  1. There was not going to be a lot of interest in middling players beyond a 7th rounder at best
  2. There is no point in trading people who are good enough to build around for draft picks that may or may not produce an NFL player. The cost benefit just isn’t there.
  3. While everyone is drooling over the chance to get the top pick in the draft in the end since a full 20% of super bowls were won by QB’s taken in the first round it’s also true that a full 20% of Superbowls have been won by players picked at 199 (Tom Brady) or later (Bart Starr pick 200) (Brad Johnson 227)

The bottom line is that while a stud is a grand thing to have you still have to develop a QB. I think it’s better to get a team to win some games, even against bad competition than to tank for a first round pick. After all most teams who play the tank game are still losing big.

Instead of insisting on the return of the Brady era which isn’t happening lets remember and celebrate that we had that abnormal time to win and let Bill develop players as best he can.

The Boston Bruins have yet to lose in their first 10 games this season and seem even better than last year (19 out of a possible 20 points so far) despite the two major retirements in the off season. The difference seems to be the defense that has allowed only a single power play goal against them and of course the excellent goaltending of their pair of Ullmark and Swayman.

Many have suggested they should have traded one I disagree. Having both of them is the best insurance policy that a team can have against a single injury derailing a season as both are #1 goalies on any team in the league.

I would however suggest that whatever rotation you are using in the regular season be applied to the playoffs. The failure to do so last year after a record breaking regular season in my opinion contributed to their 1st round playoff defeat.

Finally in my two primary Dynasty Leagues the disappointment continues. While I was able to play spoiler to the White Sox playoff hopes in the final series of the year I tanked against Florida finishing 2 games out in a league that has no wild cards.

Meanwhile in the 1971 league my team that has traded off most of it’s stars for draft picks and prospects have won 5 of their last 6 but with only 35 games to go 9 games is just too much to make up in the race for the final wild card, even if I didn’t have two teams ahead of me to pass.

However there is movement in the NL as the Phillies who had a ten game lead for the final wildcard spot have gone 1-9 in their last ten letting the Cards pick up 4 games while playing .500 ball at the same time.

St. Louis is now only 6 games out with nobody to pass and still has three games against the Phillies coming up before the end.

On the down side the Cardinals next 12 games are against teams with winning percentages of .654, ,604 .535 and .708.

If they are going to come back they’ll have to earn it.

I have this horrible feeling of “Déjà Vu

Déjà Vu Monty Python’s Flying Circus 1970

It’s been nearly 10 years since my post titled Enfield Rifles, Israeli Tanks & Palestinian Lies” went up on this blog in response to claims by Palestinians that Israel was targeting civilians in their response to another Hamas attack that was immediately followed by calls from the left for a cease fire since Hamas was no longer in a position to effectively kill Jews in safety.

Unlike the last time however there seem to be a massive amount of western students educated by expensive elite colleges that have been getting a lot of fund from Arab states that seem to be making the same claims of “Genocide” and “targeting civilians” that were just as false 9 years ago when Israel wasn’t all in the way they are now.

It appears that these young mush for brains while being instructed on all 387 genders have not been taught anything about simple logic so I will explain to them the fallacy of their position in a way they will hopefully understand.

If you just want to read the original post you can click here as the point as much of the text will be the same but if you want to check out my embellishments read on:

There was a great video of Ben Shapiro answering a lot of nonsense from the “Death to Israel” crowd, a crowd so ignorant at best or mendacious as worst that one actually claimed that England didn’t bomb civilians during world war 2. The Oxford Union doesn’t allow embedding but you can view it here.

It takes a lot of ignorance for people to fall for this line although I suspect it’s more in the sense of a religious belief than actual ignorance, but for all the influences out there parroting the. “Targeting of Civilians” and “Genocide” line there is a witness who can without question prove the falsehood of that claim: The late General Reginald Dwyer.

On  April 13th 1919 General Dwyer led a contingent of about 90 men to Jallianwala Bagh where there was a large crowd of Indians some for protest and some for a local fair.

After deploying 50 of his men armed with bolt action Lee Enfield Rifles (First introduced in 1895) he opened fire on the crowd.  After expending aprox 1650 rounds his troops managed to inflict over 1500 casualties on the crowd with between 379 & 1000 dead depending on whose figures you believe.

Dyer never for one moment denied that he was deliberately targeting unarmed civilians, in fact Dyer actually had armored cars armed with machine guns but he was unable to bring them to bear. At the official inquiry he bluntly stated publicly that had he been able to deploy them he would have used them.

Once again here is the scene from the movie Gandhi that vividly portrayed that scene which is a key moment in the movement for Indian independence known as the Amritsar or the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.

Now any good anti colonialist likely knows about what happened here and rightly decries it as an evil act. I suspect that if you mentioned it to the students currently marching in favor of Hamas they might have even been taught about this as it rightly portrays a white western colonial power in a bad light.

The problem however for our friends on the left is that this action clearly establishes their claims against Israel and their narrative in Gaza as a lie.

Consider the following:

  • General Dwyer had 50 armed men, using 19th century bolt-action rifles and in only 15 minutes of deliberately targeting a civilian population inflicted 1500 casualties.
  • Israel has called up nearly 400,000 men and women, they have deployed, jets, heavy artillery, tanks and all the weapons that a modern experienced 21st century army has at its disposal. It has been on the ground in Gaza for about five days (as of this writing on Friday morning) t and for several days before this, Israel was launching air and artillery strikes on Gaza.
  • Furthermore they are operating in a very densely populated area. In fact we are constantly told by the defenders of Hamas that Gaza is the most densely populated place there is on earth.

Now think about this for a second.

If we are to believe the Arabs on twitter, the students in universities, the “experts” on various platforms like tic-tok and the Arab media, and those marching in cities in Europe and the US that Israel is and has been deliberately targeting Palestinian civilians since day 1 as part of “genocide” then an obvious question arises:

How is it that the Israeli Army and Air Force, given weeks of time are less efficient killers of civilians than 50 British soldiers armed with bolt-action rifles, introduced when Grover Cleveland was President of the United States, were in 15 minutes?

If Israel was doing what you claim then Gaza would have been depopulated when the first version of this post went up in July of 2014 let alone today.

Bottom line if you are still maintaining that Israel is targeting civilians and committing genocide in Gaza not only do General Dyer, the dead of Amritsar and simple logic call you a nonsensical liar but by speaking this lie you are dishonoring the dead of Amritsar who never even considered the evils that Hamas committed on Oct 7th to begin this war.

James Hacker: No Mrs. Rogers it won’t do. Either you must get some patients into this hospital or I shall close it.

Mrs. Rogers: Yes well minster in the course of time…

James Hacker: No no, not in the course of time Mrs. Rogers, now! Get rid of 300 of your people and get some doctors and nurses and get some patents.

Billy Frasier: Now look here without those 300 people this hospital wouldn’t function

James Hacker: You think it’s functioning now?

Mrs. Rogers: Minister, it’s one of the best run hospitals in the country. It’s up for the Florence Nightingale Award.

James Hacker: And what, pray, is that?

Mrs. Rogers: It’s won by the most hygienic hospital in the area.

Yes Minister: The compassionate Society 1981

One of the things that allows people to rob us blind is their misunderstanding of subsidies given to various producers of various items.

As a general rule I think the only things that really deserve subsidy are things that increase our supply of

  • Food
  • Drinking Water
  • Fuel
  • Electricity

The basis for this is that a country that can provide food and water, electricity and fuel without outside help is truly independent because if worst comes to worst the necessities of food and warm shelter are available so the people can survive. And of course such a country can tell any other country or group of countries who want to buffalo them to get lost because anything they would have to do without would be either a luxury or convienence.

This is not the case with electric cars. Consider this bit of info:

The paper estimated that the average cost of EV subsidies, ultimately footed by American taxpayers, were around $8,984 per car. That was thanks to a combination of the well-known $7,500 federal tax credit as well as state subsidies.

‘Our preliminary analysis indicates that states handed out over $646 million in taxpayer subsidies to EV buyers in 2021,’ read the report. ‘Dividing by the 435,320 EVs sold in 2021, the average EV buyer received state credits totaling $1,484.’

Now people think. “Hey I’m getting $8500 for buying this car!” but what’s actually happening is that $8500 is added to the price of the car so it’s going to the manufacturer to offset the costs that are being imposed.

Or think of college. People wonder why the price of college admission has gotten so out of hand. The reason is simple. When you have the federal government giving out free cash to help offset the cost of attending colleges, the colleges increase their prices to absorb as much of those funds as possible.

That’s why you have so many more administrators these days. All those tax dollars are helping to pay for all those people who process said tax dollars. The subsidy is not for you it’s for the people who are to be rewarded, it’s just passing through your hands.

That’s why one should always be wary of governments offering gifts because in the end it’s all about rewarding friends and those friends aren’t you.

Once you understand this, then the rest makes a lot of sense.

It’s the first of the month so it’s time for the Indulgence Calendar at DaTechGuy Blog for any and all who wish to pray for and help out the souls in purgatory.

It’s also All Saints Day a holy day of obligation for Catholics as we honor the saints in heaven, the Church Triumphant who have fought and won the good fight that we the church militant are still fighting on earth.

Because it’s All Saints Day it also means that there is a special series of indulgences that we have earn every single day through November 8th either for ourselves or for the Church Suffering (the souls in purgatory).

Beginning today, continuing tomorrow on All Souls Day ( where the church remembers the souls in purgatory) and throughout the octave of this Holy Day of Obligation a Plenary indulgence is available each day for anyone who visits a graveyard and prays for the dead.

These indulgences are available under the normal rules: which are:

  1. Communion the day of the indulgence (covers all indulgences that day)
  2. Prayers for the intentions of the Pope (covers all indulgences that day)
  3. Confession within 20 days before or after the day of the indulgence (covers all indulgences during that period of time)
  4. MUST be in a state of grace at the time of the indulgence (no unconfessed mortal sins)

Also be aware that unless your death is imminent you can only gain one Plenary Indulgence a day so if you earned for say:

  • Visiting the Blessed Sacrament for a half hour or more
  • Reading scripture for a half hour or more
  • Praying a group Rosary

then the indulgence you earn will be only partial.

Finally a plenary indulgence automatically becomes partial if you have any attachment to sin (that’s why they are so hard to get).

So if you’re a Catholic take advantage of these next 8 days, your soul and the souls in purgatory will thank you.

Anyways here is this month’s indulgence Calendars to download if you want.

That the full calendar the blank one is next
