Hocksteader rased the phone in triumph, “Klink, I’ve been waiting for this day.”

“But Major Hocksteader I had no control of the convoy.”

Berlin answered Hocksteader grined while describing the destrocution of the convoy & Oberst blaming Klink for the security leaks that made it possible. A small price to rid Germany of this incompetent.

The commandant fearful protestations faded as he watched Hocksteader’s grin slowly turned to confusion, then shock, then stiff formal obediance “Javoul, herr Himmler!” as he hung up the reciever.

“Herr Major what did Berlin say?”

“BAH!” Exclaimed Hocksteader storming out in disbelief.

“If you’re who you appear why not take ’em home yourself?” asked Newkirk

A fair question, “History doesn’t mention my presence here,”

“And that’s how you knew about us” reasoned Kinch.

He nodded as the door opened and Schultz walked by him, “Excuse me” he turned to Hogan “Col Hogan the Commandant wants to see…see” the words caught in his throat as he eyed the red and blue caped figure before him.

Hogan grinned, “He’s signing pictures, did you want an autograph?”

Schultz bolted “I see NOTHING, I KNOW NOTHING!”

He laughed aloud, “History DOES mention that.”

Col Hogan had seen all kinds of prisoner reactions when the cooler wall opened into the cell but never this.

“You were expecting me?”

“Counting on it old man,” answered Bartlett, “You and your men are going to save fifty lives that Hitler and the Gestapo want dead.”

“London hasn’t given us any instructions.” Hogan said suspicion in his eyes,

“London can’t know a thing till it’s done and even then London & Berlin must both think the Gestapo has killed us all.

Hogan grinned this was his kind of op.

“Herr Obert this is most irregular”

It took will power not to laugh, he knew what was coming: “Is it regular for you to question the Gestapo?”

The groveling was instantaneous. “Oh no, use any barracks, halls, kitchens whatever you need for your prisoners, my camp is your camp.”

All that was missing was the laugh track.

“Officially they’re YOUR prisoners’ but Squadron Leader Bartlett MUST be kept in solitary, it’s VITAL to the Reich that he speaks to no one.”

He glanced at the Hitler photo with the mic, Nothing would get Hogan’s attention faster than that.
