The anticipation of the court, still at Stalag 13 was palatable as the judge spoke:

“I find the testimony insufficent to convict the defendants & while the new evidence produced by the final witness indicates Stalag 13 was a “model” camp for 3^rd Reich propaganda it establishes no connection by the commandant nor his officers to any attrocties committed in other camps not under their jusittiction. I therefore find the defendants Not Guilty.

As the Judge spoke Marya descended the ladder under the stove into the tunnels now used by the CIA with the Stalag 13 Museum as cover.

“That was the genius of using Hogan’s office, said Marya, “Neither the allies nor Gestapo would search there.”

Rolfe rose: “Your honor the defense requires time to review these documents.”

“Granted, due to the sensitive nature of this evidence the court will recess here & all parties will remain on site while these documents are reviewed.

“Your honor”, A Russian man rose “We wish to remove this witness to our embasy.”

“Denied, onsite guest rooms should suffice, this is a prison camp, she’s not going anywhere.”

The muffled laughs of Stalag 13’s men were almost audible.

Marya was not surprsied at the visit. For weeks the papers had highlighted the trial & the western prosecutors idiocy.

“So you see your testimony could be vital in allowing us to get our hands on this Nazi..”

She grined. While she was not the siren she once was her mind & memory were as sharp as ever. From the moment she read Hogan’s name in relation to the trial she had deduced what was going on.

“It would be a great help to the party & would prove your loyalty.”

The trap was sprung: “I’ll do it.”

Herr Rolfe pressed “So you never saw Klink or his adjacent do anything that would imply war crimes?”

Hocksteader was clearly still angry: “The only crime was that nincompoop Klink was ever given a command!”

Klink bristled: “I object to that statement!”

Rolfe turned in disbelief, “Klink?”

Hogan shook his head if anyone could blow this Klink could.
