My latest Examiner column Out Gunn-ed Everywhere man is now up at my examiner page a peek:

Years ago Olver produced an ad which was a take off of the country song I’ve been everywhere emphasizing how many places in the state he has been to and worked for. It is still one of the best ads of its type I’ve ever seen. As the ad doesn’t mention an opponent or a year it is regularly rolled out each election. FactCheck.org even gave it an award in 2008.

However the I’ve been everywhere theme might be overplayed Viking Pundit explains:

“Every two years, this guy blows the dust off of his campaign commercial which is simply themed “I’ve been everywhere.” Except he hasn’t held any town hall meetings anywhere in Massachusetts’ First District. The first and last time he visited any towns in Western Massachusetts was to shoot that damned commercial.

It is a first rate ad but it looks like it will take more than that to ensure a 20th straight year of democratic control of the MA-01.

And just to remind everyone. My examiner columns are currently my only source of paid income (other than the occasional pc fix) I’m paid by the hit so every time you read one of my columns or you forward it for someone else to read it’s like dropping a penny (well almost a penny) in DaTipJar.

Of course if you want to kick into DaTipJar outright or hire me to write, that’s very welcome too.

One of the great embarrassments of this year on the Republican side was the fact that after her humiliating defeat by Scott Brown in January no republican got on the ballot to oppose her in the fall.

Jim McKenna however is trying to reverse this mistake, he is launching a sticker campaign for the Republican primaries. If he can get 10,000 sticker votes during the primary he will be on the November ballot and we will have the chance to retire Martha Coakley permanently.

I talked to Mr. McKenna last week concerning his campaign:

He also made a presentation at the Twin City Tea Party last week. Here is his presentation in three parts:

Part 2

Part 3

Not getting on the ballot initially was a mistake but there is no reason why we can’t make up for that mistake on primary day.

Red Mass Group has more here.

Update: Looks like he would be a square peg in the statehouse. from his BIO:

Jim has taught courses on law and ethics as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the part-time MBA program at Worcester Polytechnic Institute’s Department of Management.

Ethics in Massachusetts? Boy talk about not fitting in.

..as they keep showing up at local Tea Party Candidate forums. Here are some photos from the event:

People gathered as the Candidates and their supporters arrived

The crowd was good particularly early

This photo must be an optical illusion

Don’t tell Charles Sherrod that guy was there

A few of the candidates for Sheriff posed for pictures:

Keith Nicholas (I) for Worcester County Sheriff

One Independent

Scott Bove (D) for Sheriff

Bove made his second appearance at twin city

Tom Foley (D) for Worcester County Sheriff

For Foley it was his first visit, those D’s are not an illusion I guess they didn’t get the NAACP memo that we were a bunch of evil loons. The Republican candidate was also there but he was in and out and I didn’t get a chance to get a posed solo shot of him.

Now thats a gavel for a tea party meeting

Gotta love the cool Tea Party Gavel. Talked to several people in attendance before the candidates went on:

First there was Bob

And then there was Joanne:

Unfortunately Joanne left right after the forum so not only did she miss getting interviewed a 2nd time but she missed the Monday 25 cent wings and half price appetizers at the Border Grille & Bar after 8 p.m. That’s tragic. However I did catch Bob again:

This post is already the size of Cuba so I’ll put the actual candidate speeches in a later post. I still have to tweak the Youtube descriptions and one video upload failed overnight. I’ll have news from the forum all through the day.

Update: Candidate forum videos up

Robert Stacy’s post happens to coincide with a subject that recently came up for me.

As you may or may not know my own unemployment benefits have run out and my wife recently lost her job so things have become incredibly tight around here with only two teenagers working, however I have a liberal friend who has been in much more dire straights for much longer. I’ve been hoping and praying that he would find employment and just got the news today that he has been offered a good job at good money. He will likely start next week.

I had been in a very bad mood to day so this brightened me up considerably. I congratulated him on his change of fortune and we talked about the position. I was arguing that his employment benefits others and talked about the multiplier of employment, he insisted otherwise saying that he learned to live bear bones and would likely keep doing so. Every time I mentioned an item he insisted he would still do without. Finally I brought up shopping suggesting he might purchase perhaps a name brand rather than a generic on some items. His answer blew me away.

He said it was not a fair example since he is still on Mass. Food Stamps the state gives them out 6 months at a time so he will have them for some time while employed. He maintained the example is bad because his food would be paid for with “free money” so of course he would buy better stuff now that he has some other income, but for his own money he would be not be spending a penny that he didn’t have to.

Listening to him describe how foolish Massachusetts is was really something. He talked about establishing residency in NH to avoid the Mass income tax and how he would buy the groceries in NH since stores across the border take them. Liberal views be damned, if Massachusetts was dumb enough to give him the money he was going to spend it and if he could avoid the taxes he would do so.

Liberalism you might want to vote it but you don’t want to live it.
