Newsbusters reads Matthews wrong, Matthews reads Palin wrong

I saw the clip today on Morning Joe where Chris Matthews declares that Palin will win the nomination in 2012 if she runs, Newsbusters was surprised:

An unexpected prediction, and an even more surprising admission from Chris Matthews this morning . . .

Appearing on Morning Joe, the Hardball host predicted that Sarah Palin would seek the Republican presidential nomination, and painted a path to victory for her. In a moment of candor, Matthews admitted that “the media will try to destroy her, of course.”

Matthews made his comments in the course of a pre-taped Mojo Midterm Exam segment that aired on today’s Morning Joe.

Newsbusters is shocked SHOCKED that Matthews would say what he says. They should not be. If they paid attention to what followed they would understand.

Barnicle maintained that if Palin is the nominee that Obama wins re-election automatically. Matthews believes this too.

Matthews is a hyperpatrisian but he is no fool. He knows what both 2010 & 2012 have in store for Democrats in general and this administration in particular. He wants Palin running not because he thinks she can win, but because he thinks she can not.

Newsbusters is reading Matthews wrong but Matthews is reading Palin wrong and Joe Scarborough God bless him hits the nail on the head. When Scarborough points out that Matthews claims concerning Palin’s ignorance are the same thing that was said about Reagan, Matthews declares Reagan well read and substantive.

Unfortunately for Chris like myself Joe read Tip O’Neill’s Autobiography and reminded Chris what his old boss said about Reagan. It was the liberal line for decades until he died. I remember the arguments, I believed them at the time, the difference was when the facts didn’t support those beliefs I changed my opinion, they haven’t.

Here Joe was able to see what Chris Matthews had wrong. Matthews and Barnicle are assuming that the nation won’t accept a Sarah Palin, they assume she is some kind of dunce that people will see right through. However what people see right through are the media types who think this.

2010 may be 2004 redux but 2012 has the potential to be 1980 all over again. A Carter like president facing crises that he can’t cope with, a republican field with one or more established faces (Romney, Huck) and an outsider, a former governor who is considered by the intelligentsia just a lightweight celeb. The left was delighted when Reagan was the front runner, convinced that he couldn’t win, remember how that turned out?

Will the left learn from history? I see no reason why they would start doing so now.

Notice that no one objects to this characterization of the media on this panel of, er, media personalities. No one questions whether that is actually the media’s job, to intentionally try to destroy political candidates. It’s all just a given. Palin runs, media will attempt to destroy her — and it serves as an implicit admission that the media did exactly that in 2008.

Solid point.

Went to breakfast with a friend who is in town for the 4th. When I brought up the parade with John Olver and Bill Gunn, he expressed satisfaction that Olver was being challenged but expressed doubt that he could be beaten. It’s been a few years since he lived in this neck of the woods, if he had followed me to the local Barnes and Noble he might have changed his mind.

One of the signs of a down economy is that business that once catered to political whims don’t have that luxury, they have to make money to survive and act accordingly. Just two years ago at the local B & N you would find plenty of liberal books in your face while you need to search for conservative volumes near the back.

I’ve mentioned that last year conservative authors started to get more space but I was still shocked when in the prominent works section I found The Road to Serfdom not only in the area for notable books and new bestsellers, but with only 3 copies left on a practically empty shelf.

My surprise was even greater when as I headed for the history section, there on the featured author table were the works of…Glen Beck!?!

Glenn Beck a featured author in Leominster Massachusetts? Totally unheard of. Even worse for the left was the lack of liberal volumes on display. I found Stephen Colbert in the bargain section and he wasn’t alone. He was joined by Bill Bradley (not so odd) but also by…Ted Kennedy?

Run that through your head for a moment. The last of the Kennedy Brothers, the man who won 69% of the vote in 2006. Gone less than a year yet Liberal Lion the fall and rise of Ted Kennedy. is in the bargain bins. 47 years in the Senate and he is an afterthought. His widow had better take that into account when 2012 comes around.

If you want to know why John Olver and company feel the need to run like the wind, this is it. People are voting with their wallets and retailers can’t waste shelf space on unwanted liberal books.

Oh and there is bad news for Mitt Romney as well. Both his new book and Sarah Palin’s were available as audio books. Sarah’s Going Rogue was discounted 20% after being out nearly a year. Mitt’s No Apology was discounted 40% after being out 3 months.

If this is Massachusetts what must be happening in New Jersey?

lately because as has been noted in slate no feminist has had much to say about all these successful GOP women:

I’m not surprised that the only primary race to be noted by Feministing is Kamala Harris’ victory in the Democratic race for California attorney general or that the comments on a straightforward who’s-who post at Jezebel are full of bile regarding Carly Fiorina and Meg Whitman. But it is disappointing that many liberal women don’t even seem to want the GOP to have strong female candidates. As Sara Libby wrote in Slate yesterday, “Do you still cheer if the ceiling is crashed by two conservative businesswomen?” To answer a question with a question, why not? (Especially in a primary.)

And the amazing think is it extends beyond the base races:

Nor are these high-profile victories the only signs that this is a conservative woman’s moment. Earlier, Susanna Martinez overcame a spending disadvantage to win the Republican gubernatorial nomination in New Mexico; if victorious in November, she will join Marco Rubio as a rising Hispanic star on the national stage. Anna Little, mayor of Highlands in Monmouth County, leads for the GOP nomination in New Jersey’s Sixth Congressional District; Little had the backing of tea-party activists, Faith and Freedom Coalition (which I founded last year), and Building a New Majority, a New Jersey group focused on ground game and turnout. Little’s margin stands at only 65 votes, so there may be a recount, but if she holds on, she will face Frank Pallone Jr., one of the most liberal members of Congress, in the fall.

National review gives the answer without realizing it:

One of the clear winners yesterday was Sarah Palin. The liberal media wrote her obituary after the 2008 elections, but she has emerged as one of the most influential political figures in the country. Not every candidate she has endorsed this year has won, but her support played a critical role in validating the candidacies of Nikki Haley and Carly Fiorina.

If it highlights Palin that is a step too far for the “sisterhood”. Of course if it was truly a “sisterhood” of women then they would be objecting to the implant stories.
