…wardrobe. Or actually the coverage thereof.

Correct me if I’m wrong Michelle Obama was a professional in her own right. She is the quintessential modern woman who had husband career and family and managed to juggle it well. She did make some gaffe’s on the London trip but that’s not what this is about.

There is a lot of talk about what she is wearing, the pearls etc etc etc.

Aren’t we past the point where the main story on a powerful woman is the amount of pearls she wears? I would think so. I wonder what the Reclusive Leftist would say about it?

I guess the celebrity culture trumps all.

That Bigot Betty White…

…at least that must be what Richard Cohen would conclude.

Was watching the old Match Game on the game show network this morning after sleeping late. It’s one of those old shows that are still funny as the years go by.

Well a younger Betty White was on and a question was “Sgt Preston was so alone for so long he married his blank.” when she said Husky she shouted to the booing audience: “Who else would he marry?”

Obviously the entire Match Game cast and crew and audience under the Cohen rule must have been a bunch of racist bigot, homophobes etc etc etc since the concept that he might have married another Mountie never occurred to them.

When you watch old television you can’t help but notice this kind of stuff, it’s amazing what film can do.

(Actually it’s amazing what was considered racy on those old shows too…)

I don’t know why this story isn’t bigger

After all it isn’t every day people are busted in a Western City with Uranium.

It might be considered benign but did the people who possessed it know that?

Speaking of the stooges…

They have two huge advantages that have added to their longevity. First of all their type of physical humor translates to any language. My grandmother spoke very poor English but she understood “Those crazy men” just fine.

The other is the length of their films are not only perfect for TV with plenty of room for the modern commercial, but are perfect for another reason.

I remember from Tip O’Neil’s autobiography that the best speech is about 9-15 min because that is how long you can hold attention, I think one of the reasons why the Stooges are stronger than the Marx Brothers and Laurel and Hardy (and don’t get me wrong they are all classic) is the fact that they primarily made shorts that can be watched on TV in 15-20 minutes, in a fast world that is a huge advantage.
